lol. Any owner can test that theory to their hearts' content. That is what free agency and the market is all about.

If an owner refuses to pay, the player hit free agency. If the market refuses to pay, the player does not get compensated according to their wishes.

None of that supports a theory that an owner or owners (plural) shall begin rejecting undercutting those players' contractual demands, for whom they value. An owner or owners' sense of value of a player is the key. They will continue to pay in order to secure the player's services as they value it.

Then again, owners could start colluding together and collectively start restricting how much they will pay prized players. The players union will love that and will see the owners in court for doing so.
The owners have no real reason to collude against a certain player or position. The money they pay the players is more or less locked in with the hard cap.

They will turn on him regardless....the only thing they would like about him is that he took Daks spot. Nothing can save him, except, maybe a SB and SB MVP. Other than that, he's cooked.
Not true and you know it, are you concerned about having competition coach?

ESPN: Cowboys Save $34M on Cap If Dak Prescott Is Traded or Cut Before March 2024

Sooner or later, the Dallas Cowboys will have to put their money where their mouth is with star quarterback Dak Prescott.

The two-time Pro Bowler is due to be a free agent after the 2024 NFL season. ESPN's Dan Graziano noted Thursday, however, that the Cowboys will have a possible out out this offseason.

He wrote Dallas could save $34 million against the salary cap by trading or cutting Prescott before his roster bonus kicks in next March. He's due to have a $29 million base salary for 2024, and his bonus totals $5 million.

Graziano added that "the odds dramatically favor another Prescott extension that keeps him in Dallas long term." Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has signaled his desire to hold onto the 30-year-old while affirming his general confidence in the player.

He's wrong. You have to factor in the cap hits for the bonuses in 2025 and 2026. If we cut or trade Dak before June 1st next year, yes we save $34 million but still get a cap hit of $61 million. That is what the contact has in it. If you need confirmation then look at overthecap.com.

What's your opinion on Josh Allen since he leads the league in turnovers since coming into the league?
Josh Allen has skills Dak doesn't have. I agree it's only fair to criticize them both, but Allen can "make up" for turnovers given his skill set better than Dak can. Not fair, but it's how it's seen and also how Dak will be judged.

To be fair, I agree that Josh Allen's picks are problematic and he's hurting his team. But Dak's margin for error will always be slimmer due to a average/slightly above average NFL passing talent.

Seriously doubt it. There was a reason 49ers traded him. Maybe Lance will become a good QB in a couple of years but if he was that good then 49ers would have kept him on Darnold.
You are looking at this entirely wrong. San Francisco does an extremely poor job of evaluating drafted players after they have watched them intensely during practice and NFL games for several seasons.

On the other hand, Dallas does a wonderful job of evaluating--especially with players they did not draft and have not watched intensely during practice and NFL games over several seasons. So, expect the exact opposite to happen in Dallas. And soon. Like, before anyone knows it.

oh wait.

Daniel Jones' contract extension was four years, $160 million, $82 million fully guaranteed.

Derek Carr's contract was four years, $150 million, $100,000,000 guaranteed.

So, these are considered exceptions of average quarterback compensation because their contractual terms were, in retrospect, ___% less than Dak Prescott's?

Apologies. My perspective was discussing how franchise quarterbacks' compensation would not be taking significantly smaller cuts of team salary caps... ever again. My discussion point cannot counter this type of stance.

I would ask everyone to disregard my previous comments on the matter.
No apology necessary.

Those were examples of organizations offering "merit based" contracts rather than the trend of 'next man up market resetting' contracts. I used the Dak comparison simply to illustrate that these two examples received lessor contracts than a top market contract (which we are all familiar with) from two years ago.

I obviously don't know him, but I don't think Dak's interested in a "merit based" extension at this point in his career. If that's the offer I could see him playing out his contract and testing free agency.

Of course, that also depends on what kind of season he has in 2023.

LOLLLLL

So playing poorly for 5 games + a devastating injury = big new contract.

But playing poorly for 16 games + staying healthy = no contract?

You're really this dense or just trolling?

Yeah I still think the odds are that Dak gets a nice new extension, however this seems like the first time that moving on is an actual possibility. Still need an actual replacement option to present itself. That COULD be Trey Lance, but that comes with a ton of things to fall right over the next 6 months.
WHY??????????....What has he done but pad his stats against Dog teams?

It is true. Zebras don't change their Stripes, neither do trolls. Do they put their crosshairs on other players when they screw up? LOL! They don't!!
I don't make excuses for Dak....I have eyes, better than the resident Madden heros. I just don't like the constant crap that keeps coming out of them.

There was a bit more to it than just that.
