As long as Prescott plays and doesn't throw a lot of picks, Lance won't get much if any playing time and the Cowboys won't ship off Prescott and play Rush or Lance with no or very little reps with he starters. The Prescott haters aren't going to like it but he will be with the Cowboys for several more years.
I would disagree just because we see that exact scenario playing out in todays NFL relatively often. The Packers moved Rodgers despite a backup with minimal reps, Seattle with Wilson, Carr was let go with no backup plan in place, etc. so it's not like that doesn't happen anymore. The fans will be heavily in the dark, but the Cowboys will see Lance in practice every day over the next few months. If Lance is balling out in practice and Dak just doesnt show up for a portion of this season (especially January) I think they will move on....the odds of both of those things happening though are pretty slim.

I obviously don't know him, but I don't think Dak's interested in a "merit based" extension at this point in his career. If that's the offer I could see him playing out his contract and testing free agency.

Of course, that also depends on what kind of season he has in 2023.
I expect that is exactly what is going to happen on Dak's end.

The Cowboys will have to decide whether to cut him and spread next years big cap hit over the remaining void years, or extend him giving them a few more years to work the cap.

If they do extend him at the ever expanding "market rate" they are still only kicking the can down the road and will be in the same position in 3ish years.

The Packers moved Rodgers despite a backup with minimal reps.
Jordan Love was drafted in 2020. The Packers designated him to replace Aaron Rodgers with their first round draft pick. He has been slowly groomed as Rodgers replacement since day one.

The particular scenario is not unique in Green Bay's dealing with the position. The same essentially happened with Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre.

Josh Allen has skills Dak doesn't have. I agree it's only fair to criticize them both, but Allen can "make up" for turnovers given his skill set better than Dak can. Not fair, but it's how it's seen and also how Dak will be judged.

To be fair, I agree that Josh Allen's picks are problematic and he's hurting his team. But Dak's margin for error will always be slimmer due to a average/slightly above average NFL passing talent.
Ridiculous. Dak scored in the Top 10 on average when it came to tight window throws while having accuracy and touch, something Josh Allen didn't score in the Top 10 for either. Dak was also ranked Top 10 in mechanics and field vision. Besides his career stats, all ranks show Dak is a much better passer than just average/slightly above average.

It has been a great day, one of my better workdays this week...
I honestly can't get a read on your attitude towards my response to you. It seems to be heavy in sarcasm, but I obviously can't be sure.

You have to admit, a total reversal/capitulation is a very rare event. Kinda like me coming home on a Wednesday evening to find my wife has spent hours making all my favorite things to eat usually reserved for the most special of occasions. As happy as I may be, there will be big part of me wondering what the hell is going on as I wait for the other shoe to drop.

I would prefer Dak were traded. But he has a no trade clause.

Doesn't matter because we all know Jerry is just going to extend him.

And Trey Lance was drafted #3 overall in 2021. Going into this season Love had about 80 career pass attempts, Lance had about 100. Obviously, Lance still has a lot of show before this is even a discussion, but I don't think you can rule it out.

Sarcasm? My friend. I typically end my sarcastic remarks with a '/sarcasm' or something similar. I am almost always being serious when there is not that or an emoji accompanying a post. :) (That is not a sarcastic emoji, lol).

You're talking about outcome and I'm talking about skills. Josh Allen - by most NFL observers - is a superior QB and has superior skills to Dak. I agree, there's much more to QBing that just "skills", but it's why some QBs get longer leashes than others.

Palpatine before he revealed his true face to Mace Windu.
Lawd...don't tell me you believe that Palpatine's face was being hidden by the dark side?!? ;)

My take is that sith lightning drains life force and when Mace used VaaPad to funnel his own darkness back on him...the more powerful darkness Palpatine poured out, the the more he was physically "scarred and deformed".

...but Lance's and Love's situation do not equate. Green Bay was situated in the bottom third of the first round and acquired Love by trading up four spots with a 2020 first-round and a 2020 fourth round picks. Then they SAT him. For three years.

On the other hand, San Francisco was squatting in the upper third of the first round and moved up nine spots with this draft capital: 2021, 2022 and 2023 first round and, 2022 third round picks. They started him the next year. And he struggled during his abbreviated starts before getting injured. Then he struggled more this past training camp and preseason.

Certainly, there is a gap in career pass attempts but their overall respective evaluations were extremely different. The draft capital used was different. Lance was destined to sink or swim almost immediately. He sunk as far as San Francisco was concerned. Hard.

Love was given time. He must fail for Green Bay before his evaluation can dip to Lance's level. Lance has an opportunity to start in Dallas and soon but he must first do a HELL of a lot more than he has done thus far before that chance can materialize. His #3 overall selection does not help him at all. In short,

Lance must become Jordan Love first in order to become the starter in Dallas. And he has plenty of work ahead of him.

You at work? Wow, cheating your employer out of hours being on this forum? Man, if I had the number to your boss I would call and turn you in for insubordination. (unless you agree to compensate me for not doing so).
Insubordination? Crap. I did not know I had changed into Jimmy Johnson.

5Stars. Admit it. Right here and now. You are going to keep me out of the CowboysZone Ring of Honor, aren't you? Be honest. And do not start telling any Tex Schramm wise tales either.
