Is their a board over / under of...after his deal is announced....
People say he was overpaid
people say it wasn't enough
people say it's a good deal for him and the team
people say there goes our salary cap
people say it's salary cap friendly

He's held up his end of the deal, staying out of trouble and maturing into a professional on and off the field.

Time for Jerry to hold up his. After all the bad contracts over the past decade I don't care if they overpay him 1-2 mil more than he's 'worth'. Texas born and bred, top 3 production with no headaches. It's a no brainer.

The key here is to pay him before he has a 1500 yard season with 15+ TDs and we can't afford him.

Oh, I'm right there with you on this. I may not have been the 1st to get a Dez jersey right after they drafted him, but I was probably close...:D

But I'm sure we will see all the usual comments. And that's ok, just getting it out there now. LOL

Dez isn't going anywhere.

He's....
a Fan favorite
a Jerry favorite
a Garrett favorite
a Romo favorite

everyone that is around him and related to the team loves the guy...and not just for his on-the-field talent, but also his passion and leadership.

Yes, and did you hear all what Michael Irvin said and thought of him too. As he was in the booth for the game as a guest analyst.
Just raved about Dez and his passion, and helping his team mates with anything and everything he could.

I remember someone posting that contract negotiations with Dez were going to be difficult... who was that again?

Career 59 45 293 4104 14.0 40 85 5.0 69.6
Career 62 37 301 3863 12.8 41 59 4.9 62.3

Keep in mind that the Saints have outscored the Cowboys 1807 pts to 1620 pts for their careers. We finished the last four years in pts/yds 5/16, 15/6, 15/11, and 7/7. NO 10/4, 3/2, 2/1, and 11/6. So NO has been more prolific.

Which receiver owns which stats? G, GS, Rec, Yds, YPC, TD, Lg, and YPG

Jimmy owns the bottom stats since I already know he has 41 career TD's to Dez's 40 :p

you're agenda is wanting the best for the TEAM compared to wanting one player to make catches on tv so he can wear the 88 jersey and feel awesome.

I want Dez, badly. But to want #1 WR in NFL pay for being #5 or so (on average) is ridiculous for Dez to want. But then I realized its because in Dez mind he is #1 WR in NFL. But thats simply not true.

Not sure.

But right now contract negotiations with Dez have not been difficult.

They usually get these extensions done by Christmas, or on rare occasion, use the tag.....not before the season starts.
Tyron gave the team an outrageously good deal, so they took it. I doubt Dez' agent is offering that up.

It'll get done eventually.

And I think in the past 2 years, both are the top receivers for TD's, tied at 25.

I really prefer yards when valuing a WR. Are you catching a bunch from the 1 yard line (TD's)? OR are you putting up 2k yards and moving the team down the field at will.

Like Irvin would catch a 50 yard pass, to get tackled inside the 5, then Emmitt would take it in for the TD...LOL..
I wonder how times that did actually happened.
But Emmitt also had his long TD runs.

Not a great deal of difference but Dez wins the yardage with less games and attempts. Better YPC and better long TDs. But I get your point.

Graham had a great point about being looked at as a wide receiver. That's what he is more than a TE. It's the age of the hybrid TE. I've wondered why it took the league so long to move in that direction after Winslow and Sharp. My guess is those athletes went to the NBA or MLB.

I agree if it's not done by week 1. Wait until later on. It'll be a distraction

Sadly you would sign DB at any cost no matter what. 15 mil at what 10 years? lol Imagine the players that could be signed in free agency just where we need them. Oh! you block that all out, that right. Witten is a sure thing. Beasley & Williams are sure. I'm fine with Escobar and Street to take some catches. Run the ball too. Is there a playoff team that pays out 15 per to a WR? A cheap ***? You lose when u give me the***........lol at you're outlook

Then why aren't you running a team Mr. GM?

Tell me why you are sitting here at a forum flapping your gums/typing your life away about what you would do, and how you know so much, instead of putting your unique skills on display?

"Two 1sts would get us 3 new starting defenders next year."

Who's to say these 3 new guys would even pan out? Trade a sure thing, for something unproven?

What if all 3 blow up, and are all world, then what? You trade them too? Because you want to be a cheap ***? Gamble elsewhere again?

Then what about our WR position? Rely on Beasley and Williams to hold down the fort? A guy still learning to catch with his hands, and not body, and another, only proven to excel at quick short routes? Who else Harris? and a bunch of unproven guys?

Like I said, there is a reason you are sitting behind a screen, typing away. You are a internet coach/GM. Stick to madden.

"You are AN internet coach/GM."...............That's right. Ice man

and how are you doing behind you're iPhone/comp? different than the rest of us? lol

I'm not here pretending to know what I'm talking about saying things like "A smart GM would...."

Yeah you would know right? You would know what a real GM would do, because you have the experience? Madden?

Show him a trade. Two 1sts would get us 3 new starting defenders next year. A smart GM would not payout to this position the megadeal that will be asked for. Or tag him 2015 & 2016 then trade

Why don't you become a GM? You are clearly wasting your talents behind your screen.

I'm sure teams would line up once you start sharing your ideas, and telling them what "A Smart GM" would do.

No you are here to try to broadcast your talents, and get attention. Nobody here is buying it though.
.

you never even addressed the topic. Just a name call or two from the peanut gallery I see, but sorry I'm a lil busy for John Madden Football. Sure enjoy reading from the lost part of the Cowboys fan base on CZ however.
