Once again you have no idea what you're talking about. After the 2013-2014 season Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both expire. The Lakers will have aton of cap space to bring another star to Los Angeles to pair with Dwight.

ROFL. Please stop posting silly things. In 2 years they will have 30m of cap space eaten by Nash and DH(assuming he resigns) alone. They would have empty roster holds that account for another 10m or so.

They "COULD" have free space if they renounce Bird rights (Kobe/Gasol) to everyone. AND if they sign absolutely no one to any deals next year. Neither of those things will happen. They'll certainly use their over the cap MLE and have another 4m taken.

The one caveat is they could potentially amnesty Nash. But doing so would be stripping down to just DH and you probably can't field a credible team around him from the scrap heap much less a true contending team.

Haha it's funny to me how people here say I'm immature yet you older posters are just as immature if not more so. I started watching basketball when I was five years old in 1999.

people make fun of you for posts like this. and also because you are the typical hilarious lakers fan that follows basketball the way most women shop.

whatever you did at 5 it wasn't watch basketball. not in any real sense of the word.

my first words were "bibby pitch" because i listened to baseball on the radio with my grandpa every night but i was certainly not baseball savvy by 5.

there are some fairly sharp young guys. nothing wrong with being young. but you do need to speak in real basketball terms to be taken seriously. telling us nash is the 8th best defensive player from the all-star team isn't going to get you anything but ridicule.

LOL, not that basketball is super complicated, at the age of 5 you cannot understand nor appreciate much beyond the final score.

However, I do agree that far more older posters resort to name calling far more than you just because someone disagrees.

I don't know that Nash will even be playing in four years so I think it's a bit unrealistic to say that he will be eating however much in cap space in however many years. However, the Lakers will free cap significantly in the next few years. Kobe is not going to play much longer and that will be a tone of cap off the books when he finally decides to hang it up. Gasol, IMO, is in the same boat. I see all these guys playing for maybe two more seasons together and then, they will be at the point where they are either retiring or going elsewhere to finish out their careers. If they happen to still be productive in 4 years, that would mean that they would all be competing for championships still and that, IMO, is worth the cap. That's why you play after all.

Someday, you will turn the corner and realize that cheering for the most popular teams isnt the way to go.

No one watched any sports with any degree of seriousness or understanding of the game between the ages of 5-10.

You just watched. You did nothing more.

Well there is another person on here with the name CowboysYankeesLakers. Didn't know C&LF was for the Yankees. Very hilarious if true. :laugh2:

Got a team on the West Coast, East Coast, and the South. Who you got in the North? There are some good hockey teams up there that should fit the bill.

Huh? Nash has a 3 year fully guaranteed contract. We are talking about the team they will have in 3 years time. When Kobe and Gasol roll off the books. Nash and DH are still there.

Nash is not giving up 9 million dollars.

Yes, they have a realistic 2 year window which may be a 1 year window if DH starts slow and the lack of depth holds them back this year. Like the Heat even with talent you need time to gel.

They are very talented in that front 5 to be sure. If DH is healthy they are going to be a tough out for anyone in basketball.

But they are no where near a dynasty with all that age and lack of depth.

How much money they have coming off the books is irrelevant. What matter is how much cash they have ON the books. And the way the cap works they won't have tons of free cap space unless they sign no one to play with DH in 2015 or do a bunch of 1 year rentals a la Dallas.

But before any of that matters they gotta go out and play this year and hope Emo-man doesn't flip out and walk in free agency. If he does they will have tons of cap space in 2015 but much bigger problems to worry about.

The NBA is becoming more and more like the EPL..... a few really strong teams, and 80% of the league with no shot at all. But unlike the EPL, there aren't other competitions for these teams to try and do well in and there isn't relegation to fight for, for all the bottom dwellers. To me, it's a league that is in demise if it keeps going down its current path b/c there's nothing to keep all of the fans of the bad teams interested.

That means nothing. If Nash doesn't feel like he is going to be in it for a Championship in L.A., he will either force a trade or retire. That is not hard to figure out. No Huh factor in it.

Nash gave up much more then that just to play in L.A. He could have played for much more elsewhere but he wanted to be in L.A. because of the proximity of his children. Nash is not in it for the money IMO.

I don't think their depth is all that terrible. I think they need more outside shooting but other then that, they are OK IMO.

They are very talented in that front 5 to be sure. If DH is healthy they are going to be a tough out for anyone in basketball.

I agree with this. He is the key because he is going to be the defensive stopper for this team. Kobe is an excellent defensive player. Gasol is a pretty good defensive player. World Piece is probably the best defensive player at his position in the league. Nash is not a very good defensive player and if Howard comes back in shape, well, clearly he is the best defensive big man in the league. The Lakers could be a very strong defensive team this year but you are right, it all depends on DH coming back healthy.

But they are no where near a dynasty with all that age and lack of depth.

They are not a Dynasty because they haven't won with this group. Then again, nobody has said they are. Certainly not I. However, the age of this group may or may not be a factor. That remains to be seen.

How much money they have coming off the books is irrelevant. What matter is how much cash they have ON the books. And the way the cap works they won't have tons of free cap space unless they sign no one to play with DH in 2015 or do a bunch of 1 year rentals a la Dallas.

No. This is the Lakers and while I understand what you are saying, if the Lakers believe they can win, they will pay the Luxury Tax penalty. I am surprised that anybody would even question that having seen it happen so many times over the years. There is no hard cap in the NBA so I am not entirely sure what you mean by "the way the cap works".

Kobe is not going to play much longer. He may play 2 years or he may play 4 but either way, he is only going to play for as long as he can play at a high level and can be in contention for a championship. Once he retires, money is going to come off the books and that means that a significant amount of cap will not be ON the books.

But before any of that matters they gotta go out and play this year and hope Emo-man doesn't flip out and walk in free agency. If he does they will have tons of cap space in 2015 but much bigger problems to worry about.

That can be said for about 70% of all players in any major sport. That's nothing new to any Pro Team anywhere in sports. However, I agree, they have to do that but so do all the teams in the NBA.
