ESPN: Jason Campbell to start for Washington...

And this will improve the 'Skins how?

It seems to me that Danny Boy just follows whatever the 'Boys organization does - except when it comes to building a personnel organization.

JJ hires a named head coach in BP. Danny boy hires a named coach in Gibbs. BP starts a young QB in Romo - who really isn't a young QB and has been in the system for 3 years, developing him the old school way. Danny boy sees his success, and now he initiates a QB change based off of that. Yet, Campbell is nowhere near ready from all the reports that I can tell. Gibbs doesn't think he is. Saunders doesn't either.

This is an organization that is making personnel decisions based off of what fans would do.

Campbell may succeed, but it will be out of sheer luck. All signs point to the fact that it's way too early. Everyone points to Brunell as the problem on that team. I'm sorry, but that team has got a lot more problems than just Brunell, who has actually played decently this year.

We got to the playoffs with Q in his first full year as a starter, how far did the Commanders get with Schuler, how far did the Lions get with Harrington, how far have the Texans got with Carr. I'd say Q was a bargain considering how many first round busts there have been at the qb position. We also overpaid for Bledsoe because he couldn't take us to the playoffs with a much better supporting cast than Q ever had.

Rumour was that Cleveland was going to take Campbell in the 2nd, that's why the Commanders took him in the first.

Ohnoes!!!!!111111111!!!!!!!!!

He was a reach. Period.

Quit trumpeting Q. No one is buying it and all you're doing is setting him up to be abused.

Never heard the Cleveland rumor. Can you document it? This is me over here doubting it very much. I still wouldn't have paid as much as they did to trade up.

Since they both drafted RB,, I am guessing they had RB as a higher priority than QB.. just a guess though.

THey needed both. Why would they take a 'lesser' player?

Why would anyone take a lesser RB over a 'better' QB unless they already had a Manning or Brady? Finding RBs is much easier to do .

Okay..

All the entertaining posters in this forum (well 2 are missing) are in one thread.

Now it's time to sit back, eat some popcorn and enjoy.

He was not even the best player on his own team. :laugh2:

Not bagging on him but come on.

Campbell won games passing when those first round rb's were stopped cold. He was the best player on those days. I don't see where either of those two rb's are running roughshod in the NFL. I've heard Gibbs speak glowingly about Campbell's potential from what he's seen in practice. The only reason Campbell hasn't played is that they thought that Brunell could get them back to the playoffs this year and Campbell hasn't played in the same offense in consecutive years. I do believe that Gibbs has a pretty good record with his qb selections.

I don't think the point is 'improving' anymore. At 3-6 they aren't winning anything, so there is no point keeping Brunell in there even if he's playing semi-decent, which I'm sure plenty of Skins fans will argue with you that he's not.

Agreed.

They might as well give Campbell some exp in the system and see how he does.

How is this a decision based on what fans would do? The skins are all but done this season. Why stay with an old QB who has no future with us? We need to see what campbell brings to our future, why not start now when the rest of the games dont matteR?

I found an old 2000 Streets and Smith Pre-Season Magazine when cleaning out the garage and it said scouts were projecting Quincy Carter to skyrocket to the first pick in 2001! A head of Michael Vick or Tomlinson! Man what a crappy but amusing write up. Scouts were apparently in love with QC after his sophmore campaign.

Carter has done more for the teams he's played for than Harrington or Carr, and they were top five picks. Carr is about to lose his job to Rosenfelds, just like Harrington.

If we were 3-6 and Bledsoe was still playing there would be a lynch mob at Texas Stadium.

heck yes he does! He brought Mark Brunell to town and gave him a monster contract!

What are you talking about man?

Haven't you heard some 'Skins fans saying they are going to run the table? ;)

I kind of agree with BP's old school philosophy. You don't put a QB out there unless you think he's ready. From what I hear, neither Gibbs nor Saunders thinks he is. You can tell whether he is from the practice repetitions he gets.

Putting a QB in their thinking that "real game experience" will help him fails more than it succeeds when he's not ready. He's sat for a year, but that was learning a different offensive philosophy. This is a whole new one, and is much more complicated at that.

your obsession with one of the worst players to ever wear the Cowboy uniform is comical

People have to remember when Campbell was drafted. The trade for the pick was before the draft and it was leaked that he was the target.

31 other NFL teams knew he was their pick and 31 other teams didn't care enough about him to move up one spot in front of Washington.

31 NFL teams on taking Campbell that highly = :laugh2:

Most thought he didn't have enough between the ears to warrant a first rounder.

Then this season his own coach in Saunders implies that he's not smart enough to play in the NFL.

If he's a failure, the fate of Washington is the cellar for years on end due to no draft picks or cap room.

And of course, most NFL teams don't struggle with picking good qb's.
All 32 teams skipped over Brady 5 or 6 times. Detroit skipped over QC in the first round and took Harrington the next year and yet Q beat them. Don't they look smart for having not been to the playoffs in 15 years.

Hey kartr, get it through your thick skull. QC wasn't the reason we went to the playoffs that year. It was our #1 defense.

If you can't see the difference between Eric Crouch and Jason Campbell, you are completely blind.

I can only go on what happened.. Neither team took a QB in the draft that year. I can only conclude that they either didn't think they needed to draft one.. or they didn't think there was a Qb worthy of drafting.

The second choice might be correct.. none worth drafting:

Aaron Rodgers
Charlie Frye
Andrew Walter
David Greene ( My choice for best QB in the SEC)
Kyle Orton

So to judge Campell because both TB and Miami passed is not an accurate assesment to me. They passed on alot of QB's that are now in the league from that draft.

Wow...good luck with this Cambell move!

He has not played one NFL game yet, and I already feel sorry for the guy, and I've never seen him play...

But, when he falters, that poor sucker is going to get the wrath of the RedStinks fans at their worse...!

I agree it's time to move on with a new QB because it's exciting and all, but, this situation is not GOOD AT ALL for a young QB starting his first games in the NFL...Gibbs/Midget or whoever made this decision, just threw Cambell into the ocean with out a life jacket and no island in sight...

Oh well, until the Midget is gone, the RedStinks will forever be in the mess that they are in now...so all you RedStinks fans better pray hard every night that he is the answer, or your team will be a train wreak for many, many more years to come...

Man, it must really suck to be a fan of that team...and I say that with respect!
