Good news. I wasn't wild about losing too much of the offensive staff with Sparano gone already, plus his likely raid of the defensive staff. This gives Romo and the offense some continuity.

We all saw how poorly lame duck coaches like Tony Dungy have performed.

Dungy was given the choice of when he wanted to leave. I don't know if Wade is going to get that opportunity.

This sort of goes with my general feelings about coaches altogether. An offensive mind is only as good as his QB. A great defensive mind is worth his weight in gold. There's just so much more a great defensive coordinator can do that an offensive coordinator cannot do. In other words, coaching matters more on defense.

Other offensive coordinators could have done just as much (maybe even more) with this talent on offense. But we know for a fact that even those that are considered HOF defensive coaches would do worse with this defensive talent.

I don't think Wade is a lame duck or at least my understanding of the word lame duck. Jerry was willing to do what he could to keep Jason short of letting Wade go so I don't think Wade lost any power within the organization and could be looked at from the point of view that Jerry believes in Wade that he was willing to risk losing Jason

I'm glad to see he's staying, I would have liked to have heard what Garrett and Jones' conversation was like.

But as of right now, that is only speculation...

First off some of you need to remember that this was Garrett's first year as an OC and he did a pretty good job with both Romo; and successfully getting along with TO is a work in itself. Do agree we didn't play well offensively the last 3 weeks and there certainly problems offensively in the Giants game which not all on Romo. Garrett will be a better OC in his 2nd season just like Romo will now have the chance to work in the same offensive system for his
2nd consecutive year rather then face his 3rd different offensive scheme in 3 years. Also Garrett just like Phillips now knows his offensive players well and what needs to be done. Frankly, there's no doubt in my mind that Romo wanted Garrett back.

Now all Jerry has to do along with his scouting department and input from Phillips is to draft well which means getting us a young quality #2 WR, CB, RB & frankly an ILB who can really help out our secondary against the pass. Also think we add at least 1 good FA who hopefully provides vet leadership and fire/intensity to this lacks

Anybody heard the terms? I'm sure he received a raise. Wonder if he's making more than Wade now? Not that it really matters. Just curious...

Also, besides Wade getting up there in years and probably not having much left himself, I think his style will only work one more year with this group. '09 I think the players will be ready for a new "style" as it were.

Finally, I definitely think as much as this helps the 'Boys, this will definitely help Garrett. I honestly believe this year as a HC he may have been in over his head. Intelligence and positive accolades notwithstanding.

Wade should go, I have seen enough of these soft coaches from Switzer to Gailey to Campo and I don't believe it works here in Dallas.

Lets bring in Capers as 3-4 dc and Cameroon as his oc as he told the ravens.

Our 3-4 sucks, apart from pressure from ware, there is no collapsing pocket, confusing the qb formations in our defense. May be it is the players but if is, then there is nothing wade can do next year

Great. Now we're just going to have to go through this again next season.

And put up with this ridiculous mess all season.

I know you hate Garrett, but please leave your comments at the door, thanks

I don't understand why this makes Wade a lame duck coach...

Many teams have the next in line on staff and are clear about that...

How can that be? You have to satisfy the Rooney rule.:D

Ah.

Here's what happened it looks like. tyke1doe accidentally posted the thread twice. He asked that one be deleted. I was deleting the other one at the same time they were being merged by someone else.

Honest mistake and easily fixed.

I agree.

I wonder, deep down, how Wade feels about this.

This could be somewhat awkward this coming season unless Jerry has a specific plan in place and has told Phillips about it. Wade has to know that this could very well be his last year as head coach.

Maybe Jerry can talk Wade into a demotion. :D Can you say D-coordinator?

Who was our offensive coordinator last year? And did he get the most out of that quartet?

Lord knows Capers knows how to collapse the pocket and confuse QBs.

With him, we might just happen to make it into the top 5 in the league in sacks. That'd be great wouldn't it?

If you look at our "per drive" statistics, they're virtually identical to last years. In some statistical categories it's slightly better. But that can likely be attributed to Tony playing the entire year instead of Bledsoe. I think the biggest difference is that we had a defense this year that got the ball back to our offense.
