I'm with Mike on this. After an embarrassing playoff loss, if you aren't going to clear house (players and coaches) but bring everyone back instead then you do the things necessary to make your team better where you got exposed. But the FO did nothing and hung him out to dry before the season even started. So all season long Mike had to hear chatter about whether he would be back or not or he's "coaching for his life," etc. which is embarrassing in itself. So Mike wanted security (and maybe a little payback) and wouldn't budge. I wouldn't either.
I'm not. He got five years and his teams won one playoff game. I think three years was perfectly reasonable based on the result. If he wanted to hold the Joneses responsible for the result, that's fine. But the owner of the team hired him for a job and he didn't get it done up to expectations. Three years was reasonable.

Why give shotty 4 if they wouldn't extend mike for 4? None of this makes sense. After 5 years with a guy you should know how you feel about that person.

He failed, but he wanted the bag and 5 years with no expectations, he tried to milk Jerry with his SB, and unbelievably Jerry said bye bye, now he’s getting kicked to the curb so it’s damage control

MM wanted out and played his part well.

Be done with it. Both sides got what they wanted, JJ can move on saying, I ll keep my team mediocre and MM can say everyone knows why i signed there, i got what i deserved.

But he has dignity. You'll always find another job...if he even needs another job. You can't buy dignity.
Can’t always find another NFL HC job. He was lucky to be offered a 3 year deal. That was the only offer he got from anyone.

Was he an empowered head coach? He is not the lone voice of the team, he can't hire/fire assistants, no control over the roster, a disinterested front office and a cheap owner. Oh by the way, take all the insults and sideswipes Jerry throws at you.

Again...my dignity...in some instances is worth my life and maybe someone else's. Screw the job.

So, now McCarthy has 0 when he could have had 3. If he did a great job he would have gotten an extension. Now he has 0.
More years would not have made a difference. HIs best before date had passed by. It was a Jason Garrett type of situation. He needed to move on.

It's bad enough that Jerry can't move on from players, but even worse when he can't let go of his coaches. Garrett is a good lesson on when you let cheese get mouldy and bad. Someone has to do the adult thing and put it in the recycler.

How many empowered HC’s are there? Most aren’t the lone voice on the team and can fire and hire assistants. Garrett won more playoff games in Dallas than McCarthy.

Find it interesting that Jerry didn’t split the difference and offer MM a 4-year contract, which is what they offered Shotty.
This team is pretty far from being “close to the rim” to use Jerry’s words and is going to require some work to be competitive in the NFC this coming season.

I like that ended like it did. I like the new younger staff.

He should have earned it, not stating he is so good. He's not a King also.

Sports media is always going to rail Jerry more. McCarthy was lucky to still have a job after the embarrassing playoff loss to Green Bay. We got no further in the playoffs with him than the other coaches Jerry moved on from. Jerry replaced him and no one else offered McCarthy a job. He’s a retread and most teams are looking for the next great young HC.
Yes, everyone but the Cowboys. Im glad Mikes gone but a year too late and his replacement was a lazy pick in my opinion.

I guess McCarthy's BATNA was basically a sabbatical year (not bad) whereas the Jones' BATNA was find the last man standing who would take the job. Win, win!

No one wanted Mike after he left GB either, except for Jerry.

And yes, most teams are looking for the next great young HC. But if they were smart they’d hire a 55 yr old career assistant. Jerry keeps lapping the league.

Nope. Self-respect is worth something. Even if you're just a peon like me.

And when you already have millions in your bank account, the monetary thing is especially less important.

He made the right decision for him. And that's all that's important.
There was no choice to make.

his contract expired.

mostly because of the terrible job he did as HC and play caller.

how many blown out home games did we have to watch?

they interviewed him and then parted ways.

thats called an exit interview.

Im glad he’s gone.

Jerry was right for not resigning MM, but in good Jerry fashion, he managed to make things worser.
