News: ESPN: Michael Sam makes football sense for Cowboys

It's all a Jerry publicity stunt. The guy isn't talented enough to play in the NFL

He did better than our d-line back-ups did. So why not give it a shot? He will be on the PS...it's not like we're risking anything.

IRVING, Texas -- Signing Michael Sam to the practice squad is a move that makes perfect football sense for the Dallas Cowboys. Forget about the fact that Sam is seeking to become the first openly gay NFL player. If the Cowboys aren't mature enough to handle that, they're doomed anyway. So what if Sam gets more attention than any other practice-squad player? If anything, it's a bonus for owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who loves when the Cowboys are in the news and jerseys are being sold.

So why doesn't Zach Minter make sense for the Cowboys? Cowboys need pass rushers and Minter led the Cowboys in sacks in preseason with 3 just like Sam.

I think so too. But in fairness, I think if Sam wasn't gay, he'd be on somebody's roster. I said most teams don't want the distractions a marginal player brings. Then again, the Cowboys - and Jerry Jones - aren't most teams.

Say what you will about the Cowboys, there's never a dull moment with them. Imagine if the Cowboys had drafted Johnny Manziel and signed Michael Sam?

Yep - can you imagine Manziel and Sam on the team and we actually won a Super Bowl - Jerry's head would explode!

He has 3 sacks against 3rd and 4th string backups. I wouldn't call him roster ready.

Most aren't calling him roster ready but when your d-line looks as poor as ours does, there is no harm in bringing in a former SEC Defensive player of the year. Who also happened to look pretty good in the preseason.

As simple as that. The worst D-line in the league wouldn't hurt taking a chance on a proven college and preseason player. We're not appointing him the starter. I don't see why anyone would be against at least giving him a chance.

I get the impression that Minter wasn't that consistent. Could be wrong though, haven't seen extended action of his.

It's not his choice. You're" saying he turned down all those other phantom offers?

Aren't players free agents when they aren't claimed on waivers? (thought i read that somewhere on here) If so, he could have had other offers.

Not necessarily. He might have had several PS offers for all we know. He certainly has the best chance of sticking here than just about anywhere else.

We do know. They report every thing that happens concerning him.

Isn't Minter on IR?
