I disagree.

This is a crucial year to see how good Crayton, Hurd and Austin are.

With 2 1st round picks next year we will be in position to lock up a top WR if that is whats needed.

Key will only take snaps away and leave us in question about our future WRs.

Panthers cut Keyshawn

Keyshawn Johnson was released by the Carolina Panthers Tuesday, leaving one of the NFL's most productive receivers looking for a third team in as many years.

""They said they wanted to get younger,'' Johnson said. ""That's fine with me. I'd like to go somewhere and help someone win another Super Bowl.''

Johnson, 34, spent the weekend working for ESPN in New York during their NFL draft coverage and will undoubtedly receive offers to work in broadcasting. But his first choice is to play another season or two.

The move was somewhat surprising since the Panthers paid Johnson a $3-million roster bonus April 1. Carolina drafted Southern Cal receiver Dwayne Jarrett and also have Keary Colbert.

Last season, Johnson caught 70 passes for 815 yards and four touchdowns, two of them against Tampa Bay.

Johnson even joked that he would consider returning to the Bucs.

""Me and Jon Gruden together again. You never know,'' he said laughing. ""Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner did it.''

Must feel like a fool after all the talking he did this weekend.

Oh well, as long as he doesn't go to the Eagles or Pats, I wish him luck.

ok, i say since jerry jones and keyshawn are such good friends, to get keyshawn if he is willing to play at a decent one year contract, to help us get to the superbowl.

what one thing did we miss when we were in the red zone, ??????
right, it was a big catcher, like keyshawn, thats what he is, a big 3rd down receiver for 3rd and 3-4 etc, or at goalline and jump ball etc.

sure, it will slow the development of crayton and shanback but in long run, in my mind helps us get to the super bowl, we could use keyshawn if he is willing on critical 3rd down plays, and end zone plays to help us, he also is an excellent blocker on run plays, and if you remember, sometimes when we played carolina etc, he would be in backfield help blocking,

so check it out if its reasonable,

this maybe the guy i was talking about if he was cut in june or july,
we all know scanback wont be really available till september fully running and all, and keyshawn can show him some tricks as well as TO

we need a leader on the team too, Keyshawn was a leader, he just wanted to win, and win one super bowl

When Jarret was drafted Keyshawn looked really uncomfortable, like he was forcing a smile. He kept saying, "I'm excited, I'm really excited", but it sounded like he was protesting a bit too much. Now it makes me wonder if he had a flash of what it meant for him, all the while under the bright lights of live TV.

I can't begin to tell you how funny this is to me.

I never liked Keyshawn, didn't even like him in Dallas, talked a HUGE game but played an average one.

Sorry Key, but I guess this yet another team that doesn't agree with your opinion on being one of the best in the league.

I totally agree...I'd take him back too.

I've never been 100% sure what is going on with Glenn's knee...and you never know about TO.

the guy was tough as nails and has a big heart into the game. i'd take him back w/a 1 year contract.

Watch out for Baltimore. Desmond Mason has been a huge disappointment for them, and they're shooting for the Superbowl.

On a serious note, he should immediately go call Al Davis. A WR like him can so benefit a young QB like Russell. Much better option than Moss for that IMO.

Or Tennessee for Young.

Sorry Keyshawn, there's not much market for 4.75 WRs.

Panthers release WR Johnson
May 1, 2007
Panthers.com

The Carolina Panthers have released wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, the team announced Tuesday.

Johnson spent one season with the Panthers after playing with the New York Jets,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Dallas Cowboys.

"We appreciated the contribution of Keyshawn in his season with the Panthers," said head coach John Fox. "He brought us high production, but at this time, we are in a situation in which we have a number of young receivers and thought this was the right time to make the decision."

"Keyshawn brought what we knew he would when we signed him, and we wish him the very best," saaid general manager Marty Hurney.

The 36-year old Johnson has played 11 seasons in the NFL and ranks in a 15th place tie in career receiving with 814 catches for 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns. He had 70 receptions for 815 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Panthers.

Not to mention 4.75 receivers who in every interview talk about how they are this and that good and how they are capable of doing this and that with the best of'em, but come Sunday catch 4 balls for 56 yards......UHHHH NO THANKS.

Key is probably better off waiting to sign until training camp already has started. Maybe wait until the last pre-season game. He has the experience to not need a lot of practice time and by then some team may be desperate for a receiver and will pay more than he is worth. Any offer now will be for the bare minimum.

I am not for Dallas rushing to sign him. I actually prefer that they don't sign him, but I won't be too disappointed if they do. I guess that would say a lot about the young guys on the roster.

Nothing wrong with getting 70 catches for 815 yards from your #2 WR. Not to mention he's one of the top blocking WR's in the league. Remember how the Cowboys had to motion him into the backfield to block DE's because Pettiti was so bad? Not many WR's can or are willing to do that.

He'll have jobs to choose from, the question at his age is whether or not he's willing to play for a bad team when he'll have numerous broadcasting offers. He won't be hurting for a gig, and I doubt he would want to put his body through another year of wear and tear for a 6-10 or 8-8 team.

Baltimore and Tennessee make a lot of sense.
