You mean you have never seen the post time in the top left hand corner of all the posts?

I mean I can tell you are young but come on, even a 10 year old can understand how posting works.

You know what I mean. You mentioned me posting after midnight.
I find that creepy and stalker-like.

Now, back away slowly, show your hands and keep walking backward until you are out of sight.

You are truly creepy.

Actually Breer was saying in his latest analysis of the Giants game that the reason our getting more and more exotic looks from the defensive pass rush is because the coaching staff is trusting more and more our OLB in coverage.

It seems, at least in my opinion, that our greatest weakness in coverage was from our linebackers. Last year, Bradie James was getting killed over the middle, a lot of that attributed to his weight. Remember, we played a lot of cover-2. Ayodele, this year, seemed to have some problems concerning coverage in the beginning of year, but our OLBs are showing more and more ability, as time progresses.

The point is, we can do a lot of stuff now, because our secondary is shoring itself up.

hey zrink, when everybody in our secondary is healthy who is the weakest link in our secondary?

zrinkill;1766285 said:
I do not think we have a "weak link" when everyone is healthy.

Newman - has trouble intercepting the ball but is still one of the best 1st corners in the league.

Henry - not very fast but is still one of the best 2nd corners in the conference.

Hamlin - tries to jump and make the big play prolly to a fault but is playing very well this year and is probably one of the best Free safeties in the NFC statistically.

Roy - can get beat on the deep ball but is a force close to the LOS and is still one of the best strong safeties in the league.

That is my honest assessment .....

I am also coming around to the fact that Roy is kinda slow (duh!)

But he's a hard hitter, no one disputes that.

So, do we trade him?
if so, what value can we get for him?

Do we bulk him up (legally, like with beer and mama's home cooking) and make him a linebacker?

Do we bench him?

What?

I'm just stunned that the same person can use the word "propose" and the phrase "be hatin' " in the same subject line.

It's like saying you want to "aks someone a rhetorical question," you know?

Don't answer, it be rhetorical.

OK. now some of you are starting to look like you are lacking unbiased judgement (or I guess football knowledge-you tell me).

Not realizing or acknowledging that coverage skills of our safeties has been a noted weakness of the defense by analysts and not being able to see that yourself?...hmm.

As I said earlier, Hamlin has always been known as a mediocre coverage guy and Roy's challenges in coverage are well documented.
Both are hard hitters with real strengths, but coverage is not one of them.

Actually, before his head injury, Hamlin was known as one of the best coverage safeties in the NFL.

Yeah, ok. Do you want me to post the 15 other stories that state Hamlin is at best 'solid' in coverage....I am starting to wonder how many people on the Zone also have a 'head injury' of some sort.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports free agent safety Ken Hamlin will visit with the Cowboys on Wednesday morning.

Schefter calls it a "logical fit," but we're not so sure. Hamlin is a hitter with some deficiencies in coverage, not the natural free safety we believe Dallas needs to allow Roy Williams to stay closer in towards the line.

Ware said in his rookie year (2005) he was weak against the run.

Guess he still is.

(Or maybe, players actually progress. Dunno. Seems stupid to think so.)

Is it safe to say Roy Williams is the most polarizing cowboy since Quincy Carter. I wonder if those who thought Quincy Carter was very good also think Roy Williams is a top SS. I think there might be a trend.

You question others' football knowledge without exhibiting any of your own. Hamlin WAS regarded as a very good coverage safety before his injury. One article, written after a substantial period following his injury, doesn't cover that canvas...and it's from Shefter at that. He may be an "insider" of sorts, but he knows less about the sport than a considerable number of people on this board.

Nope .... I think the people who bad mouth Roy are just the same people who like to bash Cowboys players because they are invested in their failure. Its sad really.

Did you not read my post? This was written after his head injury. He obviously didn't play great in coverage in 2006. But we signed him to a 1 year deal hoping he would return to his pre-injury form. If he did, we re-sign him longterm. If he didn't, no problem. That was the deal and I think he's been excellent this year.

We need to figure something out....that is for sure.
I'd hate to lose his leadership though. Beef him up a bit and move him to LB?

I'm gonna continue to push for Dallas to draft Quintin Demps, saftey from UTEP :)

I've been one of those irk'd with Roy's coverage abilities, but...i'd hate to lose him.

1) I want Roy to do well, just like any other Cowboys fan would. I don't miss a game. Heck, my wife and friends laugh at me for recording the game on tivo while I'm watching it. I like watching it a second time to focus more on the OL/DL play and watch specific matchups.

2) I pay for my Sunday ticket so I can see the Cowboys every weekend. I even flew out to Texas to watch them play.

I HAVE NO AGENDA. I want our players to succeed. I just don't like the fact that Roy has fallen off since his rookie year. Here are some stats:

His 1st 4 seasons, he had 6.5 sacks. His last TWENTY FIVE games, he has ZERO.

We play him close to the LOS now and less in coverage, these numbers should be going up or at least staying the same. The Roy I saw in college just had a knack for getting through the LOS and making a huge play.

His rookie season, he had 2 defensive TD's. The last FIVE years, he has ONE.

I will give it to him, 19 INT's for a SS is great. But you also can't argue the fact that over the last 2 seasons, many (media, fans, etc.) have questioned his ability in coverage.

I hope Roy goes back to his previous playing style, where WR's didn't want to cross the middle, when players seemed to get knocked out on a weekly basis when facing Roy (Bulger, WR from TEN, TO, Musa Smith from BAL, etc...). Maybe all the rules changes and punishment on his body has made him take a more cautious approach. Who knows....
