If he wanted Mike Wallace money, he would have been signed already.

Still there is 4 million difference there.

Dez is established in the Dallas community. He also several people on his team that were once upon a time working with Irvin, the Cowboys/Jerry have relationships with these people. Dez loves this franchise more than anyone and has burning desire to win. I don't expect him the number to be above 15 mill per, I do expect him to take a hometown discount, and I do expect this to get done soon.

We'll get it done. Dez doesn't want to be anywhere else he loves it here and belongs here. Nobody should panic

But how do you know what Dallas actually offered? IF anything at all...?I haven't seen any numbers thrown around or contracts talks being rejected.

You can put two and two together pretty easily. The Cowboys would have started around 11.5-12 million, and Dez would have started around 17 million. Ultimately I can tell you that Dez and his agent probably want 15 million a year, and the Cowboys probably don't want to give him much more than 13 million per year.

Ultimately I think he will get something along the line of 13-13.5 with some incentives for making the playoffs and staying healthy, and staying on the roster and such. Structured a bit on the lines of Sean Lee's deal.

10-11 would be a very nice amount of money for anything that a person is doing.

Dez Bryant isn't going to agree to less per yer than Wallace. Which means his lowest level of pay per year is probably the 13 million a year range.

True you figure if he is franchised it would cost Dallas around 13.5 million.

And with no risk beyond 2015.

Personally, I would franchise tag him. Makes too much sense, especially since he's an injury waiting to happen, with back issues already.

Q: How often does Dallas negotiate publicly?

A: Never

No teams publicly negotiate, that doesn't mean it's difficult to get a range of what a player would want and generally what a team would want to pay them. It's not difficult at all. Always exceptions, but I can tell you right now, that I nailed demarcus ware getting released because I knew he wanted more than what the Cowboys were going to pay him.

I'm sorry, when was the last time we had a difficult negotiation with a young player we were trying to keep?

Never?

Which is so odd (the delay) considering the pull Dez has (media and fans) in that JJ has overpaid just about every other young drafted player who is ready for their second contract. Dez will get his, and hope it fits both parties. (14/yr sounds good) Maybe JJ is just squeezing out the extra media attention the contract builds.

Jordy Nelson got 9.76 mill per year.

Clearly Dez is worth several million a year more than that.

at least some more, you would think.
But Jordy's guaranteed money was much lower than some, so the per year average is deceiving.

Nelson became a main guy last year.
He and Dez have the same size and speed. Both have great hands.
Without Aaron Rodgers much of the year, he had more receiving yards than Dez, but Dez had more TDs.

Dez is 3 1/2 years younger.

BTW, Brandon Marshall got 10/yr.

You nailed that one?

Shows that you read the internet.

I would probably franchise him and hope that the WR market flattens out. It seemed like it flattened a bit this year. Both Fitzgerald and Johnson's contracts are from 2011 and 2012.

Jordy Nelson's contract is an example of the position flatlining a bit as well.

Look at Victor Cruz's contract too.

Miami gave a Wallace a very dumb contract, but that's not Dez' fault. I understand.

I think he wants Mike Wallace money at the same rate and high guarantees, but for 2-3 more years.
So not
5 for 60 with 27 guaranteed,
but instead maybe
7 for 84 with 38 guaranteed.

The only problem, as mentioned earlier, is that the real comparables to Dez are coiming up soon

Dem. Thomas
AJ Green
Julio Jones

That is exactly the tier that Dez is in age and talent-wise...most people think.

I think Cowboys will get a deal done with Dez, I really do not think he will have the franchise tag slapped on him.

Nope ... franchise him for 2 years .. then let him go. No way do i pay him more than 12 million a year. Frankly i dont ever commit more years to Dez than i commit to Romo.

If I'm the Cowboys my argument to Dez would be that Johnson and Fitzgerald are overpaid and not reflective of the actual WR market.

I would highlight Brandon Marshall making 10 milion per year with similar numbers. Same with Vincent Jackson.

I think 12 million would actually be more than fair.

Consecutively franchising a player becomes very expensive and if i'm not mistaken, all of it counts directly towards your cap for that year.

There is no split in signing bonus + base salary. It's a flat out 13 million hit.
