Jordy Nelson got 9.76 mill per year.

Clearly Dez is worth several million a year more than that.

I thought Nelson gave the Packers a pretty big home town discount.

Nelson had more yards than Bryant on significantly less targets (Bryant had 160, Nelson had 126) -- and that's with Scott Tolizien, Matt Flynn, and Seneca Wallace throwing the ball for 8 games. Not saying Nelson is better than Bryant, but he is pretty darn good.

I really like Dez. HOWEVER, no 8-8 team with as many holes as we have should pay a wide receiver that kind of money. Trade him for two first round picks and lets keep building the right way; there are other options at wide receiver and on offense.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, I love Dez on this team but there is no way I would want him at Megatron or Fitz type money.

He's also 29 years old and had a comparatively pedestrian year in 2012

Agreed -- age is a big consideration. Nelson had all sorts of problems in 2012 with hamstrings which kept him out for a bunch of games -- which is something you worry about as WRs get older.

Frankly thats what he wants (MegaTron/Fitz money) ... but if im the Cowboys i tell him if he wants a long term deal he gives me a lower rate (11-12 million a year.) If he wants Megatron/Fitz money i franchise him and let him walk ./ trade him.

Dez has been a grown up for one season. I want to see more if I'm Jerry before I back the truck up. If he wants to give me a discount, then I'll consider a 5-year deal. Otherwise, it's the franchise tag for Dez.

I trust the maturity to handle big money with Tyron more than I do Dez.

I don't think you sign Dez to a 5 year deal though. I think you'd want him for a minimum of 6 years on this deal. The more expensive the deal the longer you want it, but I think it just makes more sense to franchise him at this point.

The market for cheap veteran wide receivers and the ability to get receivers in the draft, really makes it not very wise to spend so much money on one guy.

Example: Wes Welker... 6 million per year... Anquan Boldin? 6 million per year.

I think we should franchise Dez and trade him if we need to. You get probably 2 first round draft picks for him, and then you also save 10-16 million dollars that you can then use on the defense... That's probably 4-5 stud players.

On Ben and Skin they are trying to get in contact with a reporter who tweeted that Dez could be heard and seen in the parking lot visibly upset that Tyron got a contract before him.

Edit: They reached out to Dez who called the guy out on twitter. The tweet was from a san antonio sports anchor named Greg Simmons.

Because of the nature of the wide receiver position, there is a big difference between top tier money and the next level down.

Both Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are making 16 million per year. Let's first make it clear, that is entirely too much for any wide receiver. The 3rd highest paid receiver is Mike Wallace at 12 million per year.

Dez Bryant doesn't want Mike Wallace money, he wants Megatron money. I think his production warrants more than Mike Wallace, however less than Calvin Johnson. I would say 13-13.5, and anything more than that I'd probably trade him instead. You have to remember every million you give Dez you're basically taking away from the defense.

Negotiations with Dez might go year long depending on where the sides agree. Dez might want to prove he is in the same category as Johnson and Fitzgerald, and in that case signing him this year won't happen. If you're Dez, you really can't be in any hurry to sign your deal.

I'm just going to pass this off as knee-jerk reactions to the Tyron Smith contract, because unless you're going to sit here and tell me that Desmond Demond Bryant himself told you that he wanted X dollars, or that he was going to have tough negotiation, this is just conjecture.

Hey guys this is a fan forum, is it conjecture? Yeah, absolutely. Is it conjecture based on the fact that Dez has intimated he wants to be paid a lot? Yeah. Based on the fact that he hasn't signed yet? Yeah? It's not a good combination. Obviously they aren't on the same page.

Smith was easy because the team was on the same page. There is a lot more wiggle room when it comes to Wide Receivers unfortunately.

If this is true, it's why you don't pay him. Dez has been a grown up for one year of his life. I need to see more if I'm Jerry. Franchise him.

“I’m confident in my play and I’m pretty sure that’s going to take care of itself,” Bryant said Friday. “There is no need for me to be stressed out or worried about it. It’s going to come. Like I say, [I’m] deserving. We’ll just wait and see what happens.

“I really can’t have my mind focused on that because I have guys here who are counting on me and I can’t be selfish.”

Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones is scheduled to speak with media members in a couple hours, so check back here for his comments on getting a Bryant extension done.

After learning of Smith’s contract extension, Bryant, who is in the last year of his rookie deal, tweeted Wednesday: “Congrats 77. Well deserved.”

Nelson hasn't put together those sort of numbers consistently. Last year was by far his best but it was his first time over 70 catches.

Dez has two straight years with 90+ catches, 1200+ yards, and 12+ TDs.

In the NFL over the last two years, 20 times has a player hit the 90 catch mark. Dez account for two of those instances. He's also had the 3rd most TD catches in the league both of those years.

That friends is pretty special.
