Ezekiel Elliott Wants Dallas to Draft Him: "I Want to Play Behind that Great O-Line"

I'm not opposed to it if Goff is off the board and Myles Jack. I don't really care about the rhetoric about you don't take this or that player at such and such position. We saw how important our running game is when Murray was here. He pretty much was the centerpiece of the offense during the one year in the past 5 that we lifted out of the wastelands of 8 and 8 or below.

Have you seen the list of RB's for 2017?

Leonard Fournette - LSU
Christian McCaffrey - Stanford
Nick Chubbs - Georgia
Dalvin Cook - FSU
Royce Freeman - Oregon
Samaje Perine - Oklahoma
Jalen Hurd - Tennessee
Wayne Gallman - Clemson

None of these guys are better than Elliot. McCaffrey will be a WR(most likely slot receiver). I want the Cowboys to draft McCaffrey. Any team that draft McCaffrey to be their full time RB will be dissappointed. He is a very good player and will make a great receiver in the NFL, but as a RB no way, he cannot and will not be able to do it, he will be like Bush.

But none of these guys will be a better RB than Elliot in the NFL

If we cannot trade back to later in the 1st round or something, then forget the QB, Take Elliot with that 4th pick. Our offense needs that guy, instant impact starter. We can get a QB to put on the bench later in this draft or next year.

No to ANY RB at 4... This ain't the 90's

Don't believe the hype. Especially in the case of the Cowboys, an exceptional ground game is the key our success. We invested heavily in our o-line and it basically married us to investing in a good RB. This ain't the 90's but we are building this team in our 90's mold. Might as well fully commit to that.

Some what agree but Rb's are found round 3-5 last year we passed on players for Chaz Green and Russell. And stuck on the 90's is not a good thing.

But I wouldn't take him 4th. I would if we traded to the 10-15 range, but I don't think that'll happen. Otherwise we could get someone as good if not better in the first next year. And as deep as the draft is at RB, there will be some good backs in the 2nd round too.

What 9 players are as good or better in this draft? Who was the best player in last years draft?

How about stuck on championships and 2014 success.

Yeah. The logic being talked about in this thread makes zero sense.

People are talking about passing on a quarterback to take a running back. Are they watching NFL football? Apparently not, because they're talking about passing on the rarest commodity in the game in favor of a position that is seldom even drafted in the first round anymore.

And there's a running back, who was the 3rd overall pick in just 2012, who can't get himself back in the league!

Depends on what type of offense a team runs. In the Cowboys case it is foolish to underestimate the value of a good RB when the strength of our team is our o-line.

I think you could argue the opposite. With a great OL, you don't have to put a premium value on a RB.

Let's be honest, a lot of people thought McFadden would be a bum because frankly he was a bum in Oakland. And yet behind this OL, he basically averaged the same yards per carry Murray did the year before and finished with over a 1,000 yards and wasn't even the starter the entire year.

If Romo had been healthy all year, I think McFadden would have been more than good enough to be TB here.

It's an interesting debate. I tend to think you don't necessarily need a stud TB with this OL. You just need a competent one. So while I wouldn't waste the 4th pick on Elliott, I also wouldn't just ignore taking a TB say in the 3rd round if one is there that they like.

I understand the thinking but it also makes no sense when you really think about it.

We have the 4th pick, not the 10th. If Goff/Wentz are gone, he has to be on the short list. Why lose the player that can help us the MOST because of a few draft spots.

Every single position but QB has players you can get next year or in later rounds.

You can get a RB in later rounds or next year too.

People are seriously overvaluing Elliott like he's Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson and Barry Sanders all rolled into one.

There are bigger needs on this team than TB. Getting real playmakers on defense is a big need. So if I have a choice between Elliott and Jack, I am probably taking a guy who could be a playmaking, stud LB before a TB.

Remember, many people here pounding the table that they want Elliott because we need to invest a premium top pick in a great one with this OL were some of the same people screaming that we weren't going to bring back Murray..................... who was a third round pick.

No way I even consider drafting a back until the 3rd round and that would be pushing it.. I would prefer not to draft one until the 4th. I see no reason to waste a 1st round pick, let alone the 4th overall for a position that we can get good production out of with what we have already.

If we do get him, it won't be at 4.

I personally wasn't advocating the use of our 4th overall pick on a RB. Merely saying that a good RB is an extrinsic part of what we do as an offense and like any other position the better player the more productivity we get from that position.
McFadden did produce last year in that position but with his age, milage and injury record is he a reliable option to hang our hat on?
