It's a great move for him IMO. His experience, his ability to slide inside and cover the slot, and the move from CB to S minimizes any athleticism/explosion deficiencies.

As mentioned by others, it's the kind of move a HOF CB (Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Aeneas Williams) can make to prolong their career while remaining effective.

He could probably cash quality paychecks longer if he moved to FS now

It’s pretty simple.

They gave him a ton of fake money, with no guarantee. Ends up basically being a year to year deal. If they want to release him they can when they want without damage. It also helps open a ton of cap
