Federal Search Warrant Executed on Vick House

just looked it up, in VA it's a misdemeanor just being present at a dog-fight

dog-fighting and owning dogs used for that purpose are both felony offenses in that state

all that has to be proven really for Vick to get into some trouble is his presence at a dog fight

The best guess I've heard as to why the Feds are there is the possibility of transporting a dog across state lines to a fight. That's what was being tossed around in Atlanta on sports talk radio.

We may need your ferocious Jacks for this mission, make sure to tell them ALL about Ron Mexico... perhaps they have a distant cousin who did time on his prison farm...

Those quotes make Poindexter not only look like a dumbarse, but a dirty DA as well. It's like he is laying the groundwork in case he gets caught getting paid off...

Again, to the extent you can believe sports talk radio.. but a lawyer was on locally and saying that he thinks Poindexter is happy the Feds are in on it.

The logic goes like this. You're in Vick loving country and you want to be reelected. You know your home boy doesn't look good and you're caught between doing your job and having a job six months later. So you drag your feet deliberately at the one point in the investigation where you can force the Feds to intervene. Then you can talk about "Oh! the injustice of it all!" and yes, the crime gets investigated and it is no longer your political hot potato.

I am no attorney, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express once.

So, ipso facto decorum, I would say, from long experience with judicial types on TV, I would say that once the federal boys get involved, they do so because they have enough probable cause and evidence.

The fact that the local yokels are not in on the search (or seemingly the investigation itself) tells me that the feds are gonna build their case without local input. These feds don't just launch fishing expeditions.

Somewhere, Shaub must be smiling.

Makes a LOT of sense. Many DAs aren't really lawyers or interested in prosecuting criminals. They're politicians first and foremost.

Make sure to make it rain on Poindexter and the Sheriff's office, and you're as safe as if you were in the arms of Jesus...
