Felix is lacking what Julius lacked....

The regular season can't get here fast enough.

The truth is that I didn't see enough of Julius Jones before he was drafted. As a Cowboy, he constantly tantalized me with the potential I saw early on, but that's all I had to go on. Unfortunately, in my opinion, his potential got used up. Fast.

I'm not a Razorback fan, but I had already seen more than enough of Felix Jones while he was at Arkansas. There may not have been another running back in last April's draft who had the potential to match the role which Garrett plans for him within this offense.

That role during running plays will consist primarily of off-tackle and sweep plays. If you don't want to be disappointed from the get go, you may as well prepare yourself for it. Barber will be receiving the lion's share of between the tackle runs. Probably 25% - 50% of Jones' touches each game will come through pass plays.

That's all you're going to see of Jones. Choice is a very talented back who will definitely see the field, but unless Barber (or to a lesser extent, Jones) is hurt, you're not going to see very much of him in this offense. Barber will continue to punish the interior front seven of the defense and Jones will be asked to utilize his speed create mismatches on the outside.

If this is not what you're expecting, get ready because it'll probably be a very long season for you. As long as both Barber and Jones are healthy, I think that, by season's end, everyone will finally have a clue as to whom Felix Jones really is--namely, he ain't no Julius.

DE..I think that just about sums it up. As usual...Great Post.

Power to break tackles through the line of scrimmage.

Totally apples and oranges...not even sure what your point is here. I hope you aren't insinuating that those backs are the same beast.

Felix has shown us enough of what he was drafted for. Who knows how good he'll be, but they picked him for his break away ability and versatility, and he does surely have that.

There was one drive where he was brought down three separate times by ankle tackles. That's (probably) what triggered the JJ flashbacks.

I believe that's what it was for me.

While I didn't read the whole thread, Thank God.

So, did Felix run behind the starters?

Do you think the people on the offensive line will be the ones Felix will run behind?

Wouldn't that be a little telling on where he is and how good he will be?

Just askin'

I'll admit, I don't see him being the man at doing damage between the tackles, and I'll get to change my perception of him as a result of his performances this season.

On the bright side, he looks like he can do a ton of damage in space, and he can be used as a receiver. Garrett can find ways to use those strengths to help the Cowboys offense.

Last year, Julius looked like a quitter. I don't see that in Felix.

I find it amusing that when Amendola fumbled a punt return, he was taken to the shed and beaten throughly. Felix does it, I'd have to hire a secretary to go through thousands of posts to find this.

I took up for Amendola on the fumble, just as I'm going to do with Felix. Both rookies, he was a bit frustrated with not getting many yards, it happens.

Felix was not brought here to be the #1 back. He's a "Bush" type back. A guy who will take a simple dump off pass, and go to the house with it.

Actually most of the starters for the offensive line stayed through the 3rd quarter. So the initial runs he was making were behind the regular guys.

Kevin Smith the rookie rb from Detroit has been lighting up the D in his 1st 2 preseason games. right now against cleveland he has 8 carries for 10 yards and his long was a 10 yard run. you do the math.

I'm not going to judge the guy at all until some time in the regular season..Because I didn't understand why he was regarded higher than some other guys like a Charles or Slaton, who were drafted rounds later. I want him to be really good. My biggest concern was ability to break tackles/run inside. While he may not have been drafted to run inside, I don't want to draft a guy in the top part of the draft who can't. But, I already think he'll be better than Julius, he has better vision and can be viable in the passing game. I hope he turns out to be a heck of a weapon for us.

You must have posted this before his long TD run. :p:

Felix only had 5 rushes against Houston.

Smith had 1 good run the rest were a yard or nothing.

Dorsett wasn't a back that would break a ton of tackles... neither was Barry Sanders. These guys avoided tackles, but there are going to be times when the line of scrimmage is clogged and they will go down. These aren't "Earl Campbell" or "Christian Okoye" type of runners. Sanders was continally trapped for losses behind the line of scrimmage.

Felix Jones ability will flash once he breaks the LOS, but there will be plays where he will go down easily due to his size or lack thereof.

You can't have it both ways. 200lb backs aren't known for busting the tackles of 280lb defensive lineman. Likewise 230lb backs aren't going to give you many 20 yard+ runs either.

This dumping on Felix Jones after a 5 carry night would be amazing to me if I wasn't use to the fickleness of many Cowboy fans.
