Felix Jones and Chris johnson highlights

Keeping in mind it's just one preseason game, here's the background and what happened.

The Rams and Titans practiced all week against each other w/ CJ running with the 1st unit while White rested. All week CJ was busting runs on them and the word is that the Rams coaches were clearly worried he would do it on Saturday.

On Saturday, he played only two offensive series and ran with the 1st unit vs the Rams firsts...they totally keyed on him and he even got an ill advised pitch right before getting drilled HARD in the backfield (lucky to not fumble). He caught swing pass and took 13 yards. Next series they loaded up again but he saw a nice crease, took one nice cut and was gone. That was it...the Titans then took him out of the game for the rest of the night.

Jeff Fisher is not one to blow smoke...he is a no bs type dude. He has been very impressed w/ CJ all of camp and says he is special talent--even saying he is tough and strong enough to be an every down back (I'm not sure about that myself). He's also done well with blitz pickup so far, but we'll see. He's up to 202 lbs suppossedly--which is still fairly small.

not even but since we're playing this game outside his 1 catch for 28 yards how were his other catches... so instead of trying to limit peoples play lats tally up the yards and stats and see who had a better game.....

Chris Johnson

6 rushes 77 yards 1 TD
1 catch 13 yards

Felix Jones

6 rushes 32 yards
2 catches 29 yards

I think its clear who had the best 1st game in the pre season.

you couldnt be more right...and its the guy who faced a legit NFL defense that will probably finish in the to- 5 or so, not the guy who was part of a rushing effort that gained well over 300 yds against a team that could easily end up with a top 5 draft pick next yr and have arguably the leagues worst defense this yr

First, San Diego is a better defense than the Rams, and some of San Diego's back-ups are probably better than some of the Rams starters on Defense. You need to consider that aspect of the equation. I saw Felix make Shawn Phillips grab for air last night. I saw the QB just flip Felix the ball when nothing was open, and Felix made a big play by using his explosive speed and cutting ability. He showed his ability to make people miss in tight space and pick up extra yards.
I don't buy San Diego back up being better than Rams starters....

I looked at Chris Johson's TD again. He is a talented player who will help the Titans. He had a strong camp. However, it was a zone read play and the blocking was perfect. The linebackers were blocked, and one guy took a bad angle, and Johnson broke an arm tackle. He made a nice run, but he didn't have to make some great elaborate cut. Johnson pretty much had a straight-line run through the open lane to the endzone. It was a gaping hole opened up by great zone blocking.
How was the blocking perfect when the DE was in his face almost at the same time he took the hand off ? I don't understand the play was design to go right and was flowing right he cuts back runs up the middle and used his block perfectly and then just out ran everyone else on the field.
Felix is an outstanding jump-cut runner, and he is very elusive, even in tight space. He explodes through the hole at top speed and can get extra yards by making great cuts. His power is underrated and his vision and instincts are outstanding. He showed his power on his tough five yard run where he moved the pile forward to get 5 tough yards, right up the gut. His speed, quickness, vision, instincts, and jump-cut ability is why players like Shawn Phillips and Zach Thomas have been caught reaching for air as Felix flies by. Furthermore, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Wisconsin know how good Felix Jones was at Arkansas. That isn't chump change competition. It is the best competition out there at the college level.
power underrated? 13 reps at 225..... I don't think you can underrate his power.....PLz don't even talk about College CJ put up more numbers and better numbers than anyone his senior season average 220 All purpose YPG you act as if CJ was playing D1-AA ball or D3 some where.....Once again I wonder how good FElix would have been if Dmac wasn't lining up at QB.....
Again, C.C. Brocatto (the Titans own scout) had Felix rated number 2 overall at running back behind McFadden. Brocatto is one of the most respected scouts in the NFL. He has been scouting players for decades.

Oh i didn't know that does he give reason why he puts Jones ahead of Mendenhall or StewarT?
I'm not saying Chris Johnson can't cut or play RB in the NFL. However, some scouts did question his ability to make people miss, and they were concerned about his size when he lowered his head on tacklers in the NFL. Johnson had a red flag on his neck that some teams were concerned about. Can Johnson continue to lower his head in the NFL like he did in college and stay healthy? He isn't big enough to be a battering ram in the NFL. He is going to have to make some linebackers and safeties miss. He was labled as a straight-line guy by some teams that evaluated him.

He injured his neck his JR season came back his senior season and had an amazing season....I think he's tougher than a lot of people give him credit for. A rookie needing to bulk up isn't anything that isn't unheard of...5-11 200lbs is solid though an extra 8-12 lbs wouldn't hurt but still solid at 200 lbs.

Felix didn't have a TD, but he made three plays where you could see all his skill set and talent come into play. All the things I metioned above. What did we see out of Chris Johnson? Straight-line speed against a very suspect defense.

Man i just looked at the play again boy can he move...your going to think one way on the subject and I'm going to think another your perceptive is also different than my you can be look at it half empty while i look at things half full.

I know I wanted Johnson but I am very happy with Felix Jones. These 2 guys will do big things in this league.

I wanted a CB and another all around RB. I thought we'd have a chance to get Johnson in the 2nd. But I underestimated Felix's ability to be an all around back and he certainly has that other dimension covered all over. With TC I lost my anger over Mendenhall. We done good.

IDK if the rams are going to be bad Jackson is healthy is he still holding out? They have some players on their DLine....IDK it's w.e. Last year they were 20th against the run giving up 115 yards per game thats a big difference from 300 + yards....lets let the pre season play out and then see what happens during the regular season

Jones put up his numbers in part time action against SEC defenses........CJ played in a far inferior conference, against far inferior defenses....

now i would have prefered CJ to Felix in the draft....but I am very happy that we have Felix, and I will not give him back at all.

Jones impressed me most with his pass blocking. seeing as how after Romo, we have a heaping pile of doggie poo.....we need our backs to be prolific pass protectors.

I agree our pass block from our backs is going to be very important however felix jones pickN up blitz from 2nd string guys doesn't impress

it does when that second string plays for the Chargers who are considered to be the deepest and most talent 1-53 in the league.....

I butchered C.O. Brocato's name. In this article Brocato and other NFL scouts talk about the running backs in the 2008 draft. Brocato calls Felix Jones tough and says he can carry the load.

"You can put him (Felix Jones) at wideout, the slot, running back. He's tough. He runs inside. I think he can carry the load".

C.O. Borcato (Titans Scout)

The scouts talk about Felix, Chris Johnson, Mendenhall, Stewart, and McFadden.

Scouts talk about Johnson's best three assets being speed, speed, and speed. They say he is a see it and hit it back, and he isn't a "wiggle guy" who is going to make people miss. The scouts say he is a straight-line guy.

Amazing... he went untouched but you somehow think he broke a tackle.

OMGZZZ HE MADE A SLIGHT CUT!!

Not impressed.
Untouched? Did you even watch the video. You keep making statements that aren't true.

I wanted Felix Jones. Charles Johnson's lack of competition scared me a little bit, but I still would have preferred him to several of the guys mentioned by fans at draft time. I wanted a big-time speed threat who could take a play to the house at any time.

DFWJC;2185621 said:
theogt...coming from a non-cj fan....so this comment is expected. That's cool, don't even let the guy enjoy one td run without finding something negative.
If the roles were reversed CJ would be all world and Felix would be nothing but a screen pass guy.

Wade is right, Felix's stutter-step is crucial, he made the Charger defender fall down after he made that move on the catch-and-run

Free and McQ also looked good on that playing holding the edges

Felix has some great hands too

the whole CJ argument is ridiculous

the point of running the football is to quickly make your move and head upfield w/ as much speed as possible, preferrably up the middle

not dance around in the backfield

we know your Chris Johnson history, bro

I didn't like Felix Jones pre-draft either. So why am I not "hatin" on him? Get over it. The play wasn't impressive. He ran straight forward through a massive hole.

Rack;2186113 said:
That's the dumbest statement I've ever read considering I've always said you could put 5 hall of famers in front of Barry and he wouldn't have done any better cuz he rarely ever ran where the play was designed to go.

You telling me he DIDN'T have a gaping hole to run through on that play?

He took the handoff and ran in a straight line. His speed got him the TD, but I'm not impressed. ANY fast RB would have scored on that play.

uh, he made a cut w/o losing speed

a celebratory, Felix Jones attribute

Some people have such a large Cowboy corn cob up their arse they can't look at anything objectively, it's actually sad.

it's not that, theo has been arguing against CJ since forever

he just thinks he's a scout, and if one of his criterias of successful NFL RBs isn't met, the player is then doomed to fail

taking out yards, from limited carries

how ********

Anything to prove their Agenda.....

I don't understand this lack of talent he played against where some people would have hoped all over DRC or MCkelvin and don't even care what school they went to..... I mean it's cool that you expect more from the big time programs so do I but thats not always the case to instantly write off someone with his skill set because he didn't play against the SEC is a very silly notion.
