In this clip I saw great vision, excellent speed and excelleration, outstanding balance, ability to make people miss, sets up his blockers well, shifty in the hole, he ran thru some tackles, and he damn sure doesn't get caught from behind. If we don't get DMac, I'd damn sure take FJ. I luv the way he runs with determination...

I'll agree with speed and acceleration but vision? I saw alot of gaping hole for him to run through and often he bounces to the sidelines and out run defenders. Maybe the holes are so big that he doesn't need to shift much but I don't see it in the video. He maybe a good Pro but you can judge what you don't see. If you watch video Ray Rice, now you are talking about a guy who runs well in traffic with balance and vision. He may not have that blazing speed but on 3rd and 1, he'll get you that critical yd (but we got Barber too :) )

How many tough runs between the tackles were in that clip? I saw maybe two. I'm not saying he couldn't be an every down back, but it's a pretty big risk, because he never had to do those things in college. His game is pure speed -- either break it to the outside or find a gaping hole and burst through it. Those are not options in the NFL.

Same here. I wish Jerry would move up high enough to get my boy Rashard Mendenhall from Illinois. 'Shard is the real deal and might very well be the best back in this draft. The only thing to me that is suspect about 'Shard is his blocking and that can be taught.

To me Mendenhall is the best back in this draft and will prove it when he gets to the NFL. The guy has everything you want in a back and a great attitude to boot which sperates him from McFadden in my opinion.

Jones will be an effective kick returner and decent third down back nothing more.

lolZ, that reminds me of a local sports talk show after an Arkansas game. It was either 3rd or 4th and inches, Felix Jones was in and they handed to him in a just straight up the gut run play and he gets stopped. The next day the guys on the talk show were going on for 30+ minutes on how idiotic the choice was, because Felix wasn't an inside runner and you can't trust him to get the short yardage and everybody knows that.

We aren't looking at the same player if you think he has no moves. Whadayawan?

honestly, most of this reel was pure speed around the corner. Its easy to outrun defenders with his speed along the sideline. But i saw nothing to tell me he can hit the line with authority, break a LB's tackle, or see his way through the line.

Been saying for a while... I really like Felix, and I'd love it if we got him and he proved me wrong, but I'm afraid he's just too one-dimensional. I don't think he'd do any better than Julius at running strong inside, and we know how that turned out.

I wouldn't be surprised if he were drafted a lot later than people think.

Felix Jones DID NOT bench press at the combine.

The 8 reps belonged to Rafael Little, the RB that went after him. They were mistakenly credited to Jones. Both Jones and McFadden will lift at the Arkansas Pro Day.

This has become like the Vince Young Wonderlic score. Urban Legend. Felix won't throw up 37 reps or anything but he'll probably finish in the middle of the pack for RB's.

I totally whiffed on seeing this prior, but I do see several outlets reporting that Jones did not Bench at the combine. Thanks for setting me straight on this one BigDave!

I wouldn't mind at all if we used our 28 pick on this kid (Rice). People may say you are picking him too high but there's pretty high bust potential once you get past the first 10 picks or so. RR is not only good but very limited bust potential. You can do alot worse than RR at pick 28. I don't think he'll be around at end of 2nd round.

I like Rice as well but I see him as a every down back, a workhorse, like Emmitt. I veiw FJ as a change of pace RB to compliment MB3. I'd be very happy with Rice but that still leaves us without that HOMERUN threat in the backfield. FJ provides that WOW factor who can take it the distance from anywhere on the field...

lol....appropriate subtitle.

If Wilford guarantees him, well then I know who we're picking at 28.

The problem with "homerun threats" is that they need X amount of carries before they hit a homerun. So, in the meantime you're stuck with a 3.5 YPC when Barber isn't in the game. Why force that on yourself? Get the guy that CAN carry the load if you need him, and who will not be a drop off when Barber isn't in the game.

Bingo! He has it all plus he is all about whatever helps the team. Check your ego at the door and do what needs to be done. Plus the kid works his but off in the off-season. Anybody who can play a major college sport, and graduate in 3 years is a hard workin person. When you match talent, good attitude, and hard working you have the makings of an all star.

Amen.

Our problem was not that we didn't have a guy who can go 80 untouched once every 6 games - it was that we didn't have a complement to consistently move the ball on the ground. That's why I'd be more of a fan of a guy like Rice or Choice than Johnson.
