Ferguson is a chain moving TE. Laporta is a downfield threat type. They are not really comparable. Like comparing Edelman to Jamaar Chase. Just completely different types of players.
There is little comparison between the two, LaPorta would be leading the league stats for TEs if Detroit had less weapons/options.
I wouldn't be going out on a limb too far to say that LaPorta shares the room with Bowers, Kincaid, McBride, Kraft, but LaPortas stats are a direct reflection of
game scheme.
Game scheme is completely different than season long same scheme for every game ala Dallas.

Mostly the scheme
You are correct my friend, I posted before I saw your recognition as well, in agreement with you.
If we want to remain Cowboys Fans than its time to put your big boy pants on because this is going to possibly be an extended worse stretch in franchise history.
I feel horrible for the younger fan base like @RustyBourneHorse, what you do have on your side young person is that if you stay on this wagon, eventually you might be able to outlive the entire Jones tree and possibly witness some greatness again, that's what I am hoping for the younger fans.
Guys like me, I witnessed all the 5 rings, but I doubt peeps like me can outlast the Jones for another brief glimpse, we witnessed the Jimmy years and that was a special era.
Dang that was a morbid post and apologize to anyone that might have gotten scared, it must be that Halloween is upon us....

I’ve been one of the Dak supporters for 90% of time. I’ve defended him till I’m blue in the face. And will probably do so a little bit going forward. But he’s starting to lose me.

263 yards zero TD’s 2024 . It seems when Dak finds him it’s a dump off for minimal gain . Two targets to tight ends in the end zone last night one to Schoon one to Spann Ford .

Obviously Ferguson is in the Tyler Smith category on this roster , a young building block in his first contract to hopefully be here when the winning resumes . This year he mirrors the offense , flat .
Is it a step back, or was he overrated based off of last year? I'm not sure. I think people tend not to consider just how easy our schedule was last year, we had some real patsies.

I think he's a good, solid player, but it's not like he's Witten 2.0.

Ferguson only step back is Dak being his QB. How many passes other than an out or a screen have you seen Dak get him the ball. Don’t get this twisted
We can't run the ball so we're one dimensional. Dak has always been good at beating the blitz, but opponents are not blitzing anymore. One of the least blitzed team in the NFL. They are dropping back and clogging the passing lanes. When Dak does try to go downfield someone is always in his face because we can't block. I see you're twisting things up. The whole team sucks right now. Well, except Brandon Aubrey.

He has to block too much, the o-line is a sieve...

i'm right there with you. i don't know another player that requires so much explaining and supporting. sometimes it either is, or it isnt.

Ferguson isn’t a superstar and never will be.

That being said. I do think he’s a solid tight end.

Honestly the main reason his stats have nosedived is two fold.

1. Our tackles are dog crap and he is spending more time helping block and/or chipping DE’s which slows him down getting out into routes.

2. Dak sucks.

Bro it's like 260 vs 270 and more receptions isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's very close.
But your post was "Ferguson actually has better number i think."

Receptions Yards Y/R TD
LaPorta: 20 272 13.6 2
Ferguson 31 263 8.5 0

So LaPorta has better numbers in 3 of 4 categories despite having less that 2/3 the receptions.

But understand 2 things:
1. Jake is playing on a team that is not nearly as good as LaPorta's and
2. I do like Ferguson and think he has the ability to be a very good tight end.

Just wanted to be clear that the numbers are NOT better for Jake overall...

Yeah, there's a reason I put "i think." I wasn't positive, my apologies. My point was its ironic to point towards Ferguson being "no LaPorta" when they are having similar years.

Also Laporta has played one more game. Although durability is never a negative.

I'd like to know the percentages for when opposing defenses are dropping back in coverage. One of the podcast mentioned they do it all game because we aren't effective at running the ball, don't run often enough, and when we do it's not going to be a massive gain even on a good play. We can't threaten a run, so all our pass catchers are going to struggle to get separation and find soft spots with multiple defenders playing the pass.
TEs are made for a balanced run/pass offense.
We don't have one.
