According to Football Outsiders.com, the Commanders worst offensive lineman, at least in run blocking, was Jansen. They ranked 25th off RT.

OTOH, off left tackle and mid/guard, they ranked 5th and 7th.

It's not concrete, but it certainly suggest that Dockery was one of the Commanders best offensive linemen.

Randy Thomas is our best linemen, easily. He's a beast. Chris Samuel is the second best, again, no competition. Jansen didn't do well in run support but was good in pass protection and Casey Rabach did well in what centers were supposed to do. He made (mostly) the correct line calls and coordinated a unit that yielded only 17 sacks. Dockery was good in run support but also had a lot of mental lapses and was only okay in pass protection (if I remember correctly). A case could be made that Dockery was 4th or MAYBE even 3rd, but not one of our best.

You identify your self-worth through a decision to loosely affiliate yourself with a group of guys you never met being dominant?

No, I identify my fandom by that. My self-worth is an entire different story. And my fandom is affiliated with the team that bears the name of the city that I was born in, raised in, and now practice my profession in with my family. And my fandom is affiliated with the team that I have season tickets to and whose Greatest Player--the Greatest Player of All-Time in the NFL--is someone who I have had the joy of knowing socially for the last 15 year. I also have played basketball at the gym I am a member of with its current QB, so I have "met" them.

It makes it special to me that the team I have supported since 1980 is such a proud team. They have earned my fandom. I'm still confused why anyone would be a virulently a Commanders fan, though.

By the way, if you do this, I would be very interested in it (assuming you do it honestly and forthrightly).

As well as any other statistical analysis. I love that stuff. So if you do this in good faith, I will read it and appreciate it.

I'm just giving you a hard time because all Skins fans need to know their place which is approximately [5-3 Lombardis] and [55-36 all-time record Cowboys-Commanders] behind us.

Again, ignoring the final shot, I will do my best. I will also acknowledge any shortcoming I run into so your aware.

In an effort to find middle ground and settle the debate that is raging in like 8 different threads, here's my offer to you.

Next season, I'm going to personally record every Cowboys game and track Newman on each one. I will write a short summary on each pass play, including ones he didn't get thrown at and post it on here at the end of the season. I will include the area of the field (flats, med and deep) and the side (sidelines, hashmarks and dead middle) and who caught it under what circumstances (was it in the beginning of the game, was it a hail mary, etc...)

<snip>

Until then, I will not say one more word on Newman. Does it sound fair enough to you?

How about week by week; otherwise the suspense may kill us.
:lmao:

Oh yeah, and I'll be honest, if Newman wasn't seen for enough of a play (as in the camera never catches him for more then a second or so), I'll write it as inconclusive.

Well looks like you already broke your promise so your credibility is right down there with PacMan and MVick right now... J/K

OK.

So we've gone from him being absolutely your worst lineman to....ok...maybe he's our third best.

But that doesn't make him one of the best, mister!

I will include the area of the field (flats, med and deep) and the side (sidelines, hashmarks and dead middle) and who caught it under what circumstances (was it in the beginning of the game, was it a hail mary, etc...)

I will then summarize it all in multiple ways. First a general summary, he gave up X passes for X yards and X TDs. Then I will summarize it by area of the field, first distance (he gave up X short passes for X yards, and so on) and then place (sidelines, hashmarks or dead middle) and then by quarter. And then finally by receiver, by quarter.

I will also look at passes where the receiver was obviously wide open and didn't get the ball thrown his way or the ball was over/underthrown or dropped (think TO's big drop the second Skins game) and by no means is it Newman's success and include those.

I will compare him to Henry, Springs and Rogers or Smoot (depending on who starts for the skins) and we can figure out, relatively, how much better/worse Newman did in comparison and can compare him relatively. Is that fair enough for you?

I have directv with a DVR, so theres no reason why I should miss one, but be patient with me because it's going to take some time.

Until then, I will not say one more word on Newman. Does it sound fair enough to you?

it sounds like you have a fixation and out to prove something.

who cares if it's fair enough to the vast majority of the posters in here who just look at such a fetish and shake their head wondering how any can get so worked up in 1 player to go through all that effort.

That makes no sense whatsoever. I said a case MAY be made, but I find Rabach to be better because he brings more to the line and I find Jansen to be better because he plays a more technical position and does it well. And 3rd best is actually the median since there are only 5.

The Commanders are planning on using cover-1 and cover-3.

It won't matter because the Commanders' corners are average at best.

Springs is good, but Rodgers and Smoot (the "toy man") don't scare anyone.

Good luck.

I was actually planning on doing this for a couple of other players, for my own reasons, so don't act like your that important to me. I just thought I'd throw in Newman while I was doing it and share my results with you guys.

That's what I thought when I read your post. First it was all like "Dockery was our worst offensive lineman"....then it was all like "Ok...maybe a case can be made for third best - but I like these other two better."

You get pretty weird sometimes.

I said a case MAY be made, but I find Rabach to be better because he brings more to the line and I find Jansen to be better because he plays a more technical position and does it well. And 3rd best is actually the median since there are only 5.

But, there's really nothing to back any of that up - except that those players are still Commanders, and therefore inherently superior....while Dockery is not.

LeRon Landry is fast, but he had coverage issues at LSU. Taylor can't cover Glenn or Owens in your cover-3 packages.
Taylor can't cover Crayton either.

Oh, I don't know. Being adopted by Da Fan is probably as cool as it gets. That guy seems great.

Yeah, I've known Roger for a while. I've known a fellow attorney for most of my life who lives next to Roger. So I've been able to meet him at barbeques/driveway hoops/etc on a dozen or so occasions. If I ran into him on the street, he might recognize my face from somewhere and say hello, but I doubt he would remember from where or what my name is. I've also shot hoops at my gym, the Premiere Club here in Dallas, with Romo. He's exactly as you would expect.

But that pales in comparison to being adopted by Da Fan.
