I'm intelligence by trade, I derive a certain pleasure in studying people I dislike. But I do enjoy good football and the only times I enjoy a Cowboys victory is when they beat somebody who would have taken the Skins playoff spot or when they play against the Eagles (hate their fans, they are the only ones I find consistently classless) or the Patriots (stupid media darlings). I hate them both far more.

While I was an English Major and graduated with Honors, I have to confess something to you regarding this response.

I'm not sure whether you answered me "yes" or "no" that it would be easier to just become a Cowboys fan and enjoy the season.

You see, I'm a football junkie and I love to argue. I know that will shock you right down to your very soul to hear me admit that, but it's true. I'll argue stuff I don't even believe in just for the giggle factor of it.

What you are suggesting you will do in the premise of this thread is bordering on obsession.

In an effort to find middle ground and settle the debate that is raging in like 8 different threads, here's my offer to you.

Don't forget to include what food each player ate, OK? That will contirbute tons of info for this ridiculous endeavor! Grass or turf...warm or cold...indoor or outdoor...day or night...home or away...day of week (Mon, Sun, Thur, Sat)...snow or rain...blue jersey or white jersey...

It sounds more daunting then it is. All it takes is about an hour after the game with a notepad and a remote. Tallying it will be some time at the end of the season, but it's considerably less then I have spent so far talking about this.

If I was you, I would go back and look at LeRon Landry, because Brandon Meriweather and Reggie Nelson are much better cover safties than Landry.

LeRon Landry is fast, but he had coverage issues at LSU. Taylor can't cover Glenn or Owens in your cover-3 packages.

We're using a cover-1 mostly, but if you say so dude.

You better hope your blitzes work, because your ends don't scare anyone. Your DTs are weak.

Carter can be good and Griffin supposedly put in a lot of work and looks like a totally new guy. Montgomery has the physical tools and supposedly has put in a lot of offtime, and Golston was doing well last year, but we'll see.

How are you going to generate points if Phillips sicks Newman on Santa Moss? Is that why you fear him and want to discredit him.

I've promised no comments on Newman... But Cooley seems to do well against you guys...

Dallas has proven they can take care of your running game which lost one of its best guards. Who is gong to replace Dockery? It sure didn't come through the draft.

Well they are looking at Will Whittaker who is showing a lot of promise and there's Todd Wade but he's supposedly struggling. Anyways, Dock was the worst linemen on our team, so I doubt his departure is going to equal some huge failure. Besides our running game hit a new level towards the end of last year, if we continue that, I think anybody will have a hard time stopping it. But we'll see.

You make it sound like Champ Bailey sucked in Washington when he was highly regarded there. Danny Boy just wanted to spend his money elsewhere.

Now Bailey is touted the best in the league. That wasn't a smart move, especially since Portis is showing signs of breaking down.

What are you talking about??? I never said Bailey sucked in Washington, I loved Bailey in Washington. But we got what we could because he was going to leave us at the end of 03 anyways.

Portis had a separated shoulder and a very slightly sore knee and now he's breaking down? I don't buy it. If he misses significant time this year then I'll start to worry, but he's had one major injury in his entire career to my recollection.

Actually, I was planning on doing this for Romo, Jones, Barber, Witten and Roy Williams on the Boys side (maybe not so much detail) and Campbell, Portis, Betts, Moss, Lloyd/Randle El, Cooley, Taylor and Rogers anyways, just to settle a couple of questions/concerns I have in my own mind.

If you want to undertake this - go for it. I think it's a great idea. But there's no need to go making a huge deal out of it - the "Firehawk Newman Challenge" nonsense. By all means, chart these players and their performance in games. I have no doubt you'll quickly see how superior the Cowboys players are, in almost everyone of the cases you cited. Your numbers won't be perfect, but as long as you remain consistent, and apply the same criteria across the board - IF you follow through on this, you should have some pretty good indicators of what you've seen.

My suggestions?

Set your criteria now. If you're going to attribute catches to a certain player, or decide that a QB made a good decision with the ball even if the receiver didn't catch it - set the criteria up before the season, so noone can come crap on your evaluations. Get some video capture software and provide examples for people. If you do a good enough - unbiased job, people might even start looking for your stuff.

Understand though - that nothing you are planning on doing has any bearing on that other thread, which you were being hopelessly ridiculous in.

Understand also - if you plan on really charting Sean Taylor this year - prepare for depression. Because it's a damn shame such a talented player sucks so hard.

Get with the program, burmafrd! Every player that leaves that Stink hole is the worst player that team ever had! You should know that by now...it's what they do...that is how they cope with that crappy team.

According to Football Outsiders.com, the Commanders worst offensive lineman, at least in run blocking, was Jansen. They ranked 25th off RT.

OTOH, off left tackle and mid/guard, they ranked 5th and 7th.

It's not concrete, but it certainly suggest that Dockery was one of the Commanders best offensive linemen.

I get the joy of knowing that my team is the most dominant football team in the league, instead of some second tier team like the Skins.

Well, I wanted to start a thread so I could get suggestions and things people wanted to see. I mean, while I'm charting all this, might as well provide a service so others can benefit from my time. I'll try to remain objective and will error on the side of caution (eg, if it looks like somebody got the play wrong and it's impossible to place blame, I won't) but I can't pretend I'm without my biases. I will just try to negate them.

Okay, that's fine, give me a little while to figure it all out and come up with good criteria and I will post them so we're all on the same page.

I'm just giving you a hard time because all Skins fans need to know their place which is approximately [5-3 Lombardis] and [55-36 all-time record Cowboys-Commanders] behind us.
