First pick narrowed down 2/21

What changes from 10 to 20?

With the first rounder you still get the extra year so we should be targeting premium positions that have a longer shelf life.
on average you only have 20-25 actual 1st round talents and then you just have guys that in reality are just high 2nd rounders. Some years you have more but on average bottom of the 1st round is more like tweener players. Maybe high talent or measurables with some holes that made them fall out of the top of the 1st round. Look at Tyler Smith or Linderbaum both were better than most of the OL taken before them last year. But Tyler had a lot of things that stopped him from being a highly touted 1st rounder.

Right. So draft the premium position from that top 20ish group that falls. It happens every year.

Lindy feel bc of scheme fit and his size. Tyler didn’t fall, we overdrafted him for need. He was a 2nd rounder on most boards.

Mayer might run a 4.8, I’m not sure he is the top TE. He looks slow.

And correct I’m saying no to the number 2 RB the same way I’d say no to the number 1 RB. Complete waste of a 1st round pick.
I feel that way about Washington. Folks get enamored by his size but I don’t like how he moves, especially coming out of a three-point stance.

Agree. Both look like they’re running in quick sand to me. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if both fell out of 1st round due to speed.

If someone isn’t a clear cut athletic upgrade over Ferguson, who was a YAC monster last year, I want. o part of burning an early pick on a TE.

the TE room is already great, even sans Schultz. We can grab a TE in the middle rds. I think we can rule that out at 26. I think it will come down to a cb or olineman.

Martin aint getting any younger btw. McGovern is a free agent unless we tag him or resign him.Tyron is on 1 leg every year, and Peters is well over 40 now. STEELE is coming back from a major injury. WE NEED OLINE. Lets replenish the trenches. It couldn't be more obvious what we need at 26.

I disagree with some you selected:

-Forbes is too similar to Diggs, the good and bad. We need our 2nd corner to be an asset on the edges against the run. Banks is the better fit in that 2nd tier.
-Hyatt is a Will Fuller clone, yes can stretch the field, but very limited route tree.
-I would add Drew Sanders, Robinson for sure and a few other 2nd Tier corners
Banks is my favorite corner in the draft. A three some of Diggs, Banks, and Bland would be top of the league cornerback group.
I don’t think the Cowboys draft a wide receiver in the first 3 rounds. They want a veteran like OBJ.
I think if Sanders is there at 26 he would be the pick. The Cowboys probably see him as pass rushing version of LVE.
Robinson is considered the best running back prospect in the last 10 years. Better then Zeke and Saquan. He is not making it past Tampa at 19 and could go in the top 10.

I see us drafting at least 2 cb's. We need guys there. Same with linebacker, and oline.

Think many teams will rank the 2nd tier corners differently, based on the fit. I do believe you better get one early or you can be shut out as they are going to fly off the board. Sanders is definitely interesting, but we have bigger needs to address. I wouldn't rule out Mayer and don't think they draft another 1st rd receiver, unless one of those top 3 fall.

Maybe he was overdrafted but he is probably one of the best picks from the draft in hindsight. Once you get in the late 1st round it really becomes which guy you think will be left when you your spot comes again in the 2nd round.

What we don’t know is how the Cowboys really feel about their corners. In both playoff games our secondary held up well with Diggs, Bland, and Isreal. They might think with the return of Brown/Lewis we will be ok at cornerback. I think middle linebacker is a sneaky need. LVE is a bad tackle away from his career being over. Clark needs lots of work on the mental end. Cox should probably move to safety and Barr is washed. The tight end position and running back positions are the deepest in the draft. The Cowboys are masters at developing tight ends in the later rounds. Although tight end might be the best player at 26 and Meyer is a young Witten on steroids.

Based off of what? I think he admirably filled in at LT when Tyron went down and I have a ton of respect for how he grinded but “one of the best picks from the draft” is an extreme exaggeration IMO. The metrics don’t agree. He played like a guy that should’ve been drafted a round later…like most boards had him.

Do I think he can improve and get better? 100%.

For sure, to an extent. I’m not drafting a long snapper at 26.

The cost of a quality FA CB, OT, Edge, WR etc is twice sometimes triple the cost of a RB.
The best player on their board could very well be Gibbs. It could be Mayer. It could be a olineman or corner or receiver.

Maybe. And if they have a CB / WR / OT etc that is a close similarly ranked player on the board than you take that one 10 times out of 10 to have the premium position on a cheap deal.

Andrew Thomas was worse as a rookie and is now an All Pro. OT's dont usually come in at the level of a guy like Slater. Especially guys drafted in the last quarter of the 1st. Very few boards around draft time had Smith going a round later. By the last two weeks of the draft he was a near unanimous 1st rounder. I understand you hated the pick, but be reasonable and let it go
