Fish: Prescott I don't think my contract is going to prevent us from making any moves

I think you're probably 80% accurate in what you're saying. Jerry has become extremely cheap over the years, and he utilizes the salary cap as a weapon to not spend as much money on the roster.

The Cowboys absolutely can clear $70M before free agency starts, although without a restructure of Dak you're going to create a lot of additional holes in the roster. This issue is they do this all the time and that's why we have so many horrible contracts including Daks. The issue with Dak's deal really isn't the 4/$240m structure but rather the fact that it follows a 4/$160 structure where they only absorbed about $63M of it when they signed the extension and passed the rest of the bill into the current deal. From 2024 through the rest of Daks deal the Cowboys have to take $334M in cap hits on Dak alone.

Continuing to restructure these deals, especially Daks could completely destroy the Cowboys future. I'd be OK with that if Jerry truly went for an all in year and loaded up on talent, but I wont hold my breath.

The other top QBs in the $55M club arent all that insane because they mostly signed early. Burrows 5 year deal is really 7 with his last two years of rookie control to spead the cap hit out over. Same with Lawrence. Jordan Loves deal I'm not a fan of, but at least that's a 5 year total agreement plus is just a 2nd contract so it doesn't come with the carry over money like Daks is.

Dak's deal IMO gives Jerry an easy excuse to not pay many free agents once again. I hate it because its probably the right thing to do and not restructure Dak this year, but its all because of how Jerry handled the Dak negotiations as far back as 2020.
you are pretty correct on your assessment. it all points to Jerry and his personnel, contract and cap management. he screwed up the Dak contract three times. he could have signed him while still under rookie contract but he pushed back over 2M per year, which was assinine. then ended up tagging him, which paid him the 2M per year he originally wanted and more...then he cornered himself when Dak's agent played chicken and handed him a 4 year contract, spread over 6 years to keep cap managed. the problem wasn't that, he then botched other personnel management and contracts which left the cowboys almost there, but not quite. albiet jerry was happy. the suspense and hope of next year brings back the fans as opposed to them winning it (in jerry's mind).

and he totally screwed himself this time. left with no QBs on the roster for 2025, he played chicken and he lost again. I advocated for him to let Dak walk and it would have been good for both of them. but Jerry just sees dollars.

Dak is very unlikable.

The more he talks the more he insults the fans intelligence.
He is right this one time. Those clowns in the front office have been avoiding making moves in free agency for years. They think they can build entirely through the draft and by signing bargain basement free agents. I don’t blame Dak for getting as much money as he can because our front office won’t spend where we need it anyway. Parsons is going to take them to the cleaners too. Dumb and Dumber don’t know how and when to negotiate deals.

Our cap situation opens up a bunch starting next year, including the next couple of years. They likely restructure his contract and backloaded so it will not be an issue for the 3 to 4 seasons. They likely are able to spend in free agency for the first time in about 30 years.
Yeah, but we are stuck with Dak as our QB! He can’t beat good defenses.
How will he move after this injury? Probably very poorly!!

No it won’t lol. He got an All Pro. Daniel Jones was ***….Jamarcus literally did nothing. But sip lean lol. And Deshaun Watson is by far the worst contract ever and it won’t be close. And when Tua’s career ends because of concussions add that one too as well as Trevor Lawrence’s lol….
I said one of the dumbest. I'm also not trying to compare talent, just contracts. Of course Watson's was worse. Same with Russel Wilson. But even though the Daniel Jones contract was stupid, it wasn't as bad. They had an easy out after 2 years. And Jones didn't reset the market. We paid Dak like he's the next Joe Montana.

so how did we end up with 23M on the cap in 2024?
We didn't spend it so we could push it forward for 2025 when we'll need to start paying Parsons and Smith and some others. Plus, Dak renegotiated and we pushed a chunk of what we owed him this year into next year.

Dak Prescott is NOT a likely HOFer based on his body of work so far. Please stop with the comparisons of Dak to ANY Hall of Fame player until Dak actually does something.

and they can do the same next year. like I said in a previous comment. Jerry's excuse is, we need it for next year and next year says the same thing, as an excuse not to invest today....next year never comes. and fans are now obviously buying into it...we need it next year.

remember Jerry said, we are all in......you are a 12-5 team. you have holes at DT and RB and LB, then you go out and get those players and get over the hump and compete....not say, oh, I need money for next year....because when you don't actually committ to winning, you end up with the cowboys roller coaster...

and next year he can easily push money down the road and have 70M in cap. in fact redoing Parsons contract will buy him more cap room in 25.....

and yes, at some point it comes due....it always all comes due for every team....we are no different...

this is not a Dak issue...but its easy for fans to say that, one because of their emotional relation to Dak (either hate him or love him) and to point fingers there, exactly what Jerry wants you to do.

:muttley: :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
The only fans being insulted are the ones that won't let it go....it's done, move on and pick another player to hate on. Maybe all your efforts won't be wasted on the next one.

Laughing about Quincy Carter, is Dak Prescott the very first and actually real QB for Dallas? Relevant in today's game?

I think very.

Good to know continuation despite his hurdles. Forgiveness is a manly tool.
