Trading a 4th round pick is not the same as drafting a 4th round player. We gave up a 4th round pick to receive a 3rd year #1 pick after pre-season.This is your take on this rumor?
The fascination and obsession with Lance around here is amazing.
4th round pick is backup QB territory. Dak was the exception, not the rule.
A 4th round pick is on your roster for 4 years and does and not get $5M in year 4. They don't even make $5M in all 4 years combined.
You have time to develop and analyze a 4th round pick.
We traded for Trance in his 3rd year after preseason was over. So we basically traded a 4th for a 1 year rental in an attempt to try and figure out what he is. That is extremely different.
Then his contract expires the same time as Dak's which makes the trade pretty much a waste of time. He will not play unless Dak gets hurt.
Preseason is way watered down. Teams do not play starters much in fear of injuries and defense play very vanilla schemes with rookies and UDFA's. So any hopes of finding much out what he is capable off is limited. He should look absolutely amazing in this type of situation.
The fact of rumors about us drafting a QB, should tell you a lot. The fact he will be competing for the back up spot with Rush should tell you a lot.
I believe this trade was a disaster from the beginning and a disservice to Trance. Niners did him no favors by trading him after the preseason.
If he had stayed in SF he most likely would be their back QB heading into 2024 with Darnold gone. Now he has to compete with Rush just to have an opportunity to win the back up job.
If anything he should have gone to a team that did not have a starting QB prior to training camp. Dallas should not make the same mistake as the Niners and try to trade him after preseason and no team should be dumb enough to trade for him after preseason. If he is going to be traded, it needs be to a team now so he can have a full training camp and allows him a real opportunity to play. Denver seems like the best fit.
Or he can waste another year in Dallas, with no real opportunity to play and become a free agent.
