This is your take on this rumor?

The fascination and obsession with Lance around here is amazing.

4th round pick is backup QB territory. Dak was the exception, not the rule.
Trading a 4th round pick is not the same as drafting a 4th round player. We gave up a 4th round pick to receive a 3rd year #1 pick after pre-season.

A 4th round pick is on your roster for 4 years and does and not get $5M in year 4. They don't even make $5M in all 4 years combined.

You have time to develop and analyze a 4th round pick.

We traded for Trance in his 3rd year after preseason was over. So we basically traded a 4th for a 1 year rental in an attempt to try and figure out what he is. That is extremely different.

Then his contract expires the same time as Dak's which makes the trade pretty much a waste of time. He will not play unless Dak gets hurt.

Preseason is way watered down. Teams do not play starters much in fear of injuries and defense play very vanilla schemes with rookies and UDFA's. So any hopes of finding much out what he is capable off is limited. He should look absolutely amazing in this type of situation.

The fact of rumors about us drafting a QB, should tell you a lot. The fact he will be competing for the back up spot with Rush should tell you a lot.

I believe this trade was a disaster from the beginning and a disservice to Trance. Niners did him no favors by trading him after the preseason.

If he had stayed in SF he most likely would be their back QB heading into 2024 with Darnold gone. Now he has to compete with Rush just to have an opportunity to win the back up job.

If anything he should have gone to a team that did not have a starting QB prior to training camp. Dallas should not make the same mistake as the Niners and try to trade him after preseason and no team should be dumb enough to trade for him after preseason. If he is going to be traded, it needs be to a team now so he can have a full training camp and allows him a real opportunity to play. Denver seems like the best fit.

Or he can waste another year in Dallas, with no real opportunity to play and become a free agent.

Jerry cherishes his late 6th and 7th round comp picks and then basically throws away a 4th and $5M.

Jerry won’t do it . The last time he picked a qb in first round it was Troy Aikman . Plus Jerry still wants to lure Dak into a discount , not upset him .

100%

What the hit rate on 4th rounders anyway? It’s super low.

Lance was worth the risk at a 4th.
I’ve said this in other threads. Normally your 4th rounder is a STs or fringe backup unless you get pretty lucky. I’m more than willing to trade a 4th for a possible franchise QB or quality player at the QB position. If we lose out on a Gallimore or another Kelvin Joseph then we’ll survive.

If true, this would prove how STUPID Jerry, Stephen and their front office have become! Also, it would prove Jerry wasted a much needed and costly 2024 4th round pick on the 49ers BUST named Trey Lance! You can't make this ish up!!!

Worried aren't we.............. :muttley:
And no extension in sight..........:banghead:

The Cowboys desperate need to draft an OT should preclude any move they might make to draft a QB in the 1st round. Despite that being fairly obvious, does that mean it simply can't happen? Anything is possible with Jerry making the decisions. He's never been afraid of acting foolishly, so why should he hesitate now? There are rounds other than the 1st to take a player at OT, LB, or any other spot. Would it be shocking for something unexpected to come about? Not if you've been around long enough to know what this FO is liable to do, it wouldn't. This is anything but a totally predicable year for the 'Boys. Those familiar with this team have been scratching their collective heads for years now. Anything is possible.

If we are going to tear it down for 2024 then let's do it the right way, and its exactly where the indicators are pointing.
This offseason wasn't all about the Jones inactivity, and yes we all know the recent history and reputation, but more so this offseason for a reason.
I throw punches at this FO all the time, Im just seeing the belt tighten for more of a reason than trying to just save a buck.
There is a storm a brewing my friends and Jerry wants to go to war with France...
I said this in another thread but the FO’s behavior this offseason is very weird. I think all of us are picking up on that. Maybe the Green Bay loss broke them. I do agree that this inactivity may be more than saving money on the salary cap. Something is going on. Personally I kind of like it over the “everyone feel comfortable” BS we’ve been seeing from them the last couple seasons, well last couple decades.

If Pennix or Nix is there at 24 it’s extremely possible. This also means they don’t like what they see in Lance either

giving up a 4th rounder for a highly drafted QB isnt even on the top-10 list of stupid things this front office has done.

I dont get why so many fans keep being up in arms about that trade
Especially when they haven't seen him play in a Cowboy jersey.

A waste! We needed that 4th round draft pick this year to use on other positions of dire need. It's not hard to understand that unless you straight out hate Dak.
McCarthy was going to get a QB in the draft anyway. They tried last year but the guys they liked kept going early.

Don't take the cheese.

Jones is the king of sending bullpoop stories to the media during contract negotiations.

The real story on that is that Johnson never intended Walsh to take Aikman's job. It was just a strategic pick he later parlayed into more picks.
They lost the 1990 first overall pick because of taking Walsh. It was a huge blunder. They were lucky the saints gave up picks, but they got nothing compared to what they could have with the first overall. They also missed out on players like LB Seau & DT Kennedy.
