Romo has been consistently good for almost a decade now.

He has a better team around him going into next season and that's why it should be easier to plug a new rb into the system. (Hopefully one with more speed)

Yeah, that's my hope. I just don't think Murray ever tried to do any thing different than his past years. His injuries weren't minor in his past seasons.
He just got better blocking for a change and no one rolled up on him this past season. I just never buy the "contract year stuff"

Everyone get used to it. Dallas isn't going to bend over and Murray is most likely going to leave.
There are lots of other RB's in the sea...Dallas will catch one, be sure!

We are use to it, and that's the problem. not spending money on your play makers is not the way to go. because you screwed up in the past spending big money on guys like Carr and Marion Barber. does not mean you need to shut down going after any big time free-Agents. this is not the way to go. you are not going to win a championship with scrubs.

I absolutely buy it for a guy like Jason Hatcher, who was borderline invisible until his contract year.

Not Murray though, and I agree the overall offensive philosophy switch had more to do with his numbers jump.

Yeah maybe. But most guys have better character than that.

miles austin sure went away after he got paid. i tend to agree on murray, but you never know. cant help but think he sits out a couple games with that hand last year after a huge new deal. Hate thinking that too

Wasn't his legs and his non carry hand. Murray saw the teams capabilities last season. The man has heart and a want to win.
Plus a shot at those records, who doesn't want their name in NFL record books?

It couldn't have been because the Oline made major improvement and the staff made a commitment to RUN the ball.
Romo had his best season, was he just helping Murray get a new contract? You know since it wasn't a contract year for himself.

I am not at all against resigning Murray. However, he has played an entire season (without missing time due to injury) twice in his college/professional career. Once when he was a senior before his draft into the NFL, and once when he was in the last year of his contract looking for a new one.

I am not saying they correlate, but that fact does concern me when people say pay the man. And it has nothing to do with a quarterback or an offensive line. Pay him, sure. But please do not break the bank or set the bar with him (imo of course).

We've spent the last couple seasons yelling at the jonses to show restraint when handing out contracts and yet this offseason has been filled with the folks ready to lose their mind if murray walks.

And why is that?

Because murray is a good blocker?

He knows the scheme?

I'm sure there are other reasons.

But let's not forget murrays best season came in his contract year.

I'm not totally against his return but I don't think dallas can't move on and continue to build on their success without him.

The Cowboys are doing the right thing.

Very good post. Thank you! Post some more please :)

So we aren't going to bring Murray back and we aren't bringing in major defensive help?

That's my thing. If your not going to bring Murray back at least bring in a impact guy like Hardy on defense. I like smart spending but RB and DE will be glaring holes heading into the draft if we don't make one worthy signing.

^^^THIS... I dont believe we could or should go into the draft with 2 glaring holes plus still needing more DL help, DB help, LB help, safety help etc ...

the running back in the first round lifespan may not be dead after all...
is there a chance we see three go before the second round?

I agree with you. We might well see 3 go in the first round my friend!
The NFL is a copy cat league and the pattern has been set by Seattle,
San Francisco, & now Dallas. Run the ball behind a great offensive
line, control the ball thus the game, keep the defense off the field if
possible and win the game. Sounds like a pattern used by great
teams of the past like Green Bay, Pittsburg and the Dallas Cowboys.

What was old has been made new again and long live the great
running backs. Now Dallas go getchu one!!!!!

To bad we cant sign Dez real quick and slap the franchise tag on Murray and get two first rounders from jax, that would be sweet.

Time to put the franchise tag on players is over.

Couldn't agree more. I don't read alot of conjecture on the various sites...pure speculation. I go off gut feel and my gut has said all along he's gone. Every time JJ has wanted to keep a player he has, and it's usually done early in the process. DM was a helluva player for us and I wish him luck. We should end up with a nice, shiny new RB in the 3rd-5th round like Ajayi or Johnson or Langford or Cobb. We will pair him with Williams and hopefully Randle and Dunbar will be cut. I don't think either one is the answer.

I also agree, but there has to be a part of all of us that would hate to see Murray in a different uniform. I'd be all-in on keeping him with a deal that makes financial sense. We just can't assume any rookie running back is going to come in and instantly become DeMarco Lite.

No doubt....what comes around goes around. Everything old is new again, and other cliches apply here. Lots of rumblings here in Michigan that the Lions will take the money they have now that Suh's going to Miami and really rebuild their porous interior lines. I think Stafford could be so much more effective with a good Oline and one of this young, stud RB's in the draft...matter of fact I've seen Melvin Gordon mocked to them more and more in the first round lately. I would believe it, but no RB or QB stands much of a chance behind the type of Oline they have currently. I think they should draft a couple Olinemen in the first two rounds and then get someone like Coleman out of IU in the third round. Meh, glad I'm a Cowboys fan....we don't have near the holes they do.

I don't see ANY way he re-signs here now that the super genius Chipster just gave Gore 5 mil per to come to Philthy. Our fans are getting a kick out of it, but idiotic deals like that hurt our slim chances with DM. He's as good as gone now UNLESS all the stud RB's in the draft help drive his value down. Just a freaky number of VERY good RB's in this draft:

Gordon, Gurley, Yeldon, Davis, Ajayi, Coleman, Johnson, Langford, Cobb, etc....
