Yes but will Stephen go 30 years as a GM failure and still insist on not hiring a real one? That can be what separates him from his father. This clearly isn't working, let me bring someone in.
Agreed, but he would still hold the checkbook, and that “GM” would still be required to use the draft only to improve, which has been proven to be impossible….yet they think they have already done that, just got unlucky. Would also limit who they could attract, similar to not wanting to pay for a coach, and announcing exactly that publicly.

Of course any major FA signing is run past the owner, but most of them actually want to try to win and realize that the presence of their own greatness in the building alone isn’t going to get that done.

There’s no hope. We are beat at every angle

I get the Carr lament b/c he never lived up to his contract. 50M made Carr one of the highest paid DBs in the league and he was never elite. I don't even think he made a pro bowl in Dallas. He was solid but we overpaid for him.

That is no excuse to throw in the towel and give up on free agency when Philly and Washington are lapping us in the talent acquisition department.
One of the biggest issues with Brandon Carr (and Morris Claiborne as well) was that he was signed to be a press man corner in Rob Ryan's scheme, and beat guys up at the LOS. After year 1 of the contract, Ryan was fired and replaced with Monte Kiffin, who had his corners playing zone, which was not a strength of either Carr or Claiborne. The lack of football philosophy with the Jones Boys is as much to blame as Carr for the production issue.

They've done pretty well with it so far. I mean, nearly 30 years and the value of the team has grown exponentially. I mean, the valuation by Forbes in 2024 was $10 billion, double the team's $5 million valuation in 2018.

I get it, but my complex algorithm details it pretty well. They coasted off the superbowls and right before crashing brought in Parcells. He built a solid team, then we went from Romo to Dak.

I don't believe the fanbase will tolerate another era of pre-Parcells type teams. We are too far removed from success. No teenagers just getting into sports are being drawn towards Dallas. The fathers that held the line are disgruntled and losing interest. I think it begins to catch up. Also, I have no algorithm.

There's a reason why the mayor of Dallas was only half-joking about bringing in another NFL team to play in the City of Dallas.

It would never happen, as Jerry would block it at the owners' level. Plus, the city is in no position to upgrade the Cotton Bowl to an NFL facility.

But there is so much angst against the Cowboys organization that if another team came in, they would steal a good chunk of the local fan base.

This.

If I hadn't lived through the 90's and hadn't suffered through the late 80's, I'd be gone. I'd be...a Bengals fan, if for no other reason than I like their helmets. I'm 49...too old to create die hard loyalty somewhere else. I'm on the verge of total indifference for a team I once cried over at the age of 15. I hate you, Jerry.

Same bro, we are on the same damn time line. All I can do is tune out. No way to replicate those memories or that passion.
