The point is the league now wants head shots outlawed. They have fined our players much more for far less. I want the penalty to fit the crime. You deliver a flying elbow to someone's neck, then you miss a game for a first offense at the very minimum. $10K is proably less than 0.5% of his yearly salary. $50K makes a player take notice.
You will probably get your wish stated as such in the next CBA's language.

BTW DallasEast - you seem to be good with graphics. What does it cost for a billboard for a week? Just curious.
I have no clue about billboard expenditures. Ask the Get Rid Of Jones As GM revolutionaries.

Given my means, I'd suggest a letter writing campaign to the league.
What's stopping you? Maybe others will follow your lead.

This is football. Usually, payback is conducted on the field. It isn't usually "litigated" through "official channels".

It was a first offense for Fletcher this season. The CBA (agreed upon by owners and players) specified a set amount for the fine. The commissioner employed the fine.

Charities will benefit. Unless it hasn't been reported, Crayton wasn't physically unaffected by the hit. There will be opportunities in the future for Fletcher's "kindness" to be returned in kind. I just don't see why Jerry Jones must go all Sean Connery in The Untouchables on Goodell for a football hit which was duly processed by him. It certainly wasn't ignored.

No payback was conducted by our team because we were playing for our playoff lives and I think Wade hoped the league would take care of it. They didn't. I wouldn't mind if retribution took place next year on the field. I want to see Fletcher on the ground - make no mistake about it.

In terms of the fine, it is only a minimum fine that is set. He could have fined him more and he should have fined him more.

That charities will benefit is fine by me but I think they should have benefitted 5 times more. Whether Crayton was affected is still to be determined - we only know that he was able to play following the hit. I hope he has not been injured.

If Jerry doesn't want to pursue official channels then Wade and the Cowboys players need to pursue unofficial means next year.

After all, revenge is a dessert best served cold.

I thought it was a dish.

If Jones feels that the league hasn't punished Fletcher properly, he will take action, but one thing should never be forgotten. He loves his players and always has. He'll do the right thing in this instance IF it's warranted. Thankfully, he's the best one to judge whether further action should be taken.

There's a set schedule of minimum amounts for fines.

A flagrant personal foul (first offense) is a minimum fine of $10,000. That's what Fletcher got.

Physical contact with an official is $25,000. That's what Stokley got.

A verbal or other non-physical offense against an official is $20,000. That's what Ochocinco got.

Everything else, from uniform violations to fighting to taunting, has its own predetermined amount, as well. A second offense has a higher minimum. Some have possible suspensions attached. The league CAN fine a player more than the minimum, but they usually don't for a first offense.
Great information Adam.

BTW all those fine should have an extra zero behind them.

I stand corrected.

I would definitely like Jerry to petition the league here. That was a very dangerous play. It is not as though this board has erupted about a tackle or shot on one of our players like this over the last 5 years. This one was something different - something outside of normal football. Something that the league has been trying to crack down upon.

I seriously doubt that Fletcher was intentionally trying to hit Crayton the way he did. I've never heard of Fletcher being a dirty player.

Stokely however, went way above and beyond complaining. He ran like 25 yards to that official, chewed his as and then swiped at him.
Then you clearly weren't paying attention to that play, or else you're a skins homer. Thast forearm shot couldn't have been any more intentional.

Was Andy Reid fined for his butt slap?

Hey guys, I have an account cuz I wanted to check out the enemy's forum (I'm from Extremeskins, the Commanders fan forum) and talk a little football. It's nice when we get the other's perspective on things, thought you guys might want it as well.

Not only as a skins fan, but don't you think you're being a little too hard on Fletch? Sure, he should have gotten flagged for that play, but his frustration is understandable at such a blowout at home where the coaches obviously don't even care anymore. Not only is he our captain on D, he's a leader for the whole team. Everyone makes plays like that sometimes, but overall he's one of the classiest and most determined football players out there. I think most would agree that it's pretty low to say the man doesn't deserve to make the pro bowl because of it. It's not like the pro bowl is that awesome anyway (popularity contest), but after so many great years in the league he deserves it at least once. At least he's on Peter King's all decade team.

Ehhh London Fletcher is just mad that D-Ware is light years better than he ever will be.

Hahaha.... do you even know football? dude, they play two COMPLETELY different positions and are two different dimensions of players. You see, Ware is a OLB speed rusher in a 3-4 defense while Fletcher is a MLB in a 4-3, known for leading defensive plays and audibles, a la "Quarterback of the Defense". They are tackling machines (esp. on running downs) and good ones like Fletch and Patrick Willis have a knack for always being around the ball. Think before you speak...

The hit against Crayton was very early in the game so you can't use that frustration excuse here.

I think most here know that Fletcher is not a dirty player. I do not know why he made that particular tackle in such a malicious manner. I don't think it should impede his consideration for the Pro Bowl. I do think the fine was insufficient given the nature of the blow delivered.

I would agree that it is hard to compare Ware and Fletcher. Fletcher has been a very good player for many years and I wouldn't mind him manning ILB for the Cowboys. I do think that he is not at Ware's level. Ware is probably the indisputed best OLB in football right now and has been a candidate for DPOTY for the past 3 years. Hopefully he finally wins one although he probably deserved it more last year when Harrision "stole" one from him.

Feel free to stop by when you want. Many fans from other teams do so on a regular basis.

Hmm... I did not see the play myself, I just saw the picture and heard everyone's accounts. I was actually at the game, and (luckily) missed the first drive as I was just getting to my seat. He's known for some big hits in the middle (gave both Westbrook and D. Jax concussions in two separate games), but never with any malicious intent. Like I said, every player has a mistake every now and then. I would agree that Ware is at a higher level, esp. in rushing the passer. but I do like Fletcher's complete package more in terms of his amazing tackling ability, speed, leadership, football knowledge, and decent coverage skills. I agree that Ware is the best OLB in a 3-4, but like I said that's different than an OLB in a 4-3 and probably should not be compared. Not sure who I'd say wins that category. Ware def. should have won last year, but absolutely not this year. and if we switch to a 3-4, watch out for my boy orakpo cuz he had one hell of a rookie season learning two different positions. :)

11 sacks for a rookie is very impressive. Carter and Orakpo are a nice pair of rush ends for you guys and I think the best sack combo in the league so far this year. Then you have a guy like Haynesworth and you can see why they have been one of the better defenses in the league all season. I don't know what happened to you guys against the G-Men on that monday nighter - that was just brutal. I wish Haynesworth got a big blow to Jacobs' big mouth.

Anyhow, $10K is the league's decision. I hope we don't see any more head/neck shots again this year.
