For the money Dak wants, Cowboys could get just about any QB they want

Funny how you failed to mention accuracy; you know, the thing that actuallly gets the pass to the right place ? I used to give Dak some slack because our scheme always forced him to throw to covered receivers. But this year they were able to scheme receivers open and Dak embarrassed himself time and time again: missing open receivers, throwing behind, above, in to the dirt. Yup, every once in a while he could throw a dime but wayyyyyy too inconsistent for a starting quarterback. Embarrassing. It’s unbelievable he’s a starting qb in the nfl. Only in Dallas. Troy Aikman said the number one trait a QB needs is accuracy because if you can’t hit the target, what’s the point.

So new schemes, plans, receivers, etc... are not gonna fix a consistently inaccurate Dak. Yes you can fix everything else and he still throws high, low, behind, in the dirt.

And by the way, in crucial situations Dak choked if we define choke as being inaccurate on important throws.

@leeblair @JohnBoy Maybe we watched different games. I think overall Dak did a great job. Saying he “choked” was just stupid. What a dumb bias assessment.

Dak has heart and throws pretty darn good. I will take him over most quarterbacks. He is young, makes good decisions, good velocity and has the drive to win. Look at his record since he’s been in the league, pretty darn impressive; now throw in the number of yards. The man is great and you can’t even recognize it. He has improved his craft each season thus far.

I want a new coach to come in and clean up the drop passes, develop situational schemes, manage the game clock better and develop a game plan to confuse opposing teams.

Some of these threads are just stupid.

Dak isn’t the problem as much as a rookie OC and playcaller. Dak improved this year. But they went toooo pass heavy. You are a run first team and the OC got away from that. You put in another QB and they will have growing pains and we will have another bad season.
I agree, Dak stunk up a few games this year but Kellen Moore's play calling at times hurt this team as well. Option plays to the short side of the field in the redzone killed a few scoring drives, and on top of that Maher would come in and miss a relatively easy kick. This team struggled this year and there's blame to be had from top to bottom, hopefully with a new HC and staff the play on the field will be better, but the problems at the top will remain for generations to come...just look at the owners box.

I think the only way the Cowboys can afford to keep Dak is if he accepts half of what he is demanding.
Dak will take a huge hit to his endorsements if he is no longer the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

Let the new HC figure it out. If he wants to keep Dak, then maybe we can sign him. If he doesn't, well, Dak did choke so maybe we sign a guy and Draft a long term solution.

exactly.

we kno we cant get rid of the Jones boys.

best we can hope for is the next HC has say over his staff.

We can win with Dak and a 20 million/year contract but the odds thin out much more at 40 million.year.

I would franchise him and pick up a solid vet in the Kenum, Bridgewater, Cousins or Tannerhill...Or Franchise and pick up a 2nd to 3rd round development QB in the draft. Paying Dak 40 million is the last thing I want to do.

Funny how in inaccurate Dak is yet his completion percentage his entire career is quite impressive. And unlike Wentz, Dak doesn’t complete 80% of his passes to TEs and RBs.

His franchise tag puts his salary between 32 and 33 million. Does anyone think he will take less than that?

Would you?

Only Keenum and maybe Bridgewater would be available from this list. Cousins has a guaranteed contract. Tennahill isn’t going anywhere.

I’m not opposed to a franchise tag. But I won’t pretend Keenum or Bridgewater are suitable replacements either.

Yeah our ST was a disaster. Dak has some bad games for sure and better get a little more accurate for sure. I am sure injuries hurt him some at the end of the season. But the team couldn’t get it done against the egirls.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. Lame try, Bro. Look at Cowboy’s statistics this year along with Dak. Great offensive statistics - almost historic - that did NOT translate in to wins, playoffs, or a good football team. Hell, with our offensive statistics this year we’re in the Super Bowl, right ? Same with Dak, he had some cheap stats this year that do not transform him in to an accurate or good QB.

Why don’t you just trust your eyes...lol...the rest of us do.

For the kind of money Dak Prescott is wanting, the Cowboys can get just about any quarterback they want- even an established veteran from another team.
Why would a new head coach want to be forced to base his success on a quarterback who choked in front of the entire NFL in 2019?
The Cowboys can make a deal to trade up to the number one overall pick and take Burrows or Lawrence, or they can take Case Keenum in free agency and draft a successor.
They could go after Teddy Bridgewater, Nick Foles, or even Derek Carr. All of these quarterbacks mentioned have more impressive resumes than Dak.
I think Dak can be serviceable, but not great. And the Cowboys can't afford to invest the kind of money he is demanding in him after his poor performance in the last 8 games of 2019.
With a new head coach and personnel changes that will inevitably come with him, the Cowboys would be silly to invest big money into a quarterback who the film shows missed wide open receivers repeatedly with the 2019 season on the line.
The Cowboys can win next season, but they will have to do it with a more consistent quarterback.
Prescott was Garrett's last best hope.
They both showed all of the trademarks of Garrett's tenure in Dallas.
I would franchise Dakota and give him a season with the new head coach and then reevaluate.

"NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported in August that Prescott turned down a contract extension worth $30 million per year, and while there was some speculation that Prescott might sign an extension early in the season, it never happened. If there’s no agreement before March, the Cowboys can use the exclusive franchise tag, which would result in a salary of approximately $33 million for 2020, using the average of the top five quarterback salaries next season."

I agree! But unfortunately, we all know the Cowboys affinity for keeping “homegrown talent”, despite there being better outside options. Jerry will give Dak $35million/yr and try to sell to us that he’ll be one of the greats
