If you look at the numbers, Hostile's point / prediction (i.e., if the Cowboys sign Holt, a 2nd round WR would seem unlikely) makes a lot of sense.

You think we take a WR with our first pick?
I would if the value is there. If Percy Harvin, Brian Robiskie, or Hakeem Nicks is there I definitely consider it.

Your point is well made. However, I think we can sign Holt and STILL grab one of those WR's you wrote about over in the Draft zone.

In relation to the draft, signing Holt does not/should not necessitate an either/or scenario.
Trade Crayton for Holt...I'm totally on board.

I'm in the same boat with Crayton as i am with Ellis. I'd like to see Crayton shipped out of here and i don't care what we get.

Now that is a deal I would make in a heartbeat! It gives the Rams something and we get Holt to play opposite Williams. Sweet!

I'm all for this signing for one reason -- Competition.

Both Hurd and Austin are entering contract years. I think bringing in Holt makes Austin compete with Crayton for #3.

Then, Hurd competes with Stanback for #4.

We hope that Austin wins and Stanback wins. Next year, we sign Austin for long term as #2. We let Hurd go, and we still got Stanback and draft choice to develop.

I don't see this as a progress stopper at all. It forces Stanback and Austin to step up big time and that is what we need! Hurd and Crayton are what they are--decent #4 and a decent #3. We need to pressure Stanback and Austin to beat Hurd and Crayton, and right now there is little pressure

Crayton and Ellis packaged for a conditional 7th rounder..let's do it.

Anything to get those lingering TO's out of here!!

Donnie avery made Holt expendable. The Rams think he can be a younger version of Holt.

We really need some guys that add the dimension we had with a healthy Terry Glenn. All these guys on our roster do the same thing.

Seems very counter productive to go after Holt when we want to give our young guys a shot

We can do both......and I'd be happy widdat.

I do think Crayton's presence is not needed if we were to go after Holt. Getting Holt and keeping Crayton doesn't make much sense to me.

I would have no problem bringing in Holt at the right contract. He would provide veteran insurance in case of injury and a possible option to part ways with Crayton, hopefully for a pick. We would still be able to add a rookie WR and then have everyone battle for roster spots. I just don't see a downside to Holt at the right contract.

9ers showing no interest in Pace or Holt

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports the 49ers are showing no interest "right now" in former Rams tackle Orlando Pace or receiver Torry Holt, who is on the trade block. Holt will likely be released by next week if the Rams can't find a trade partner.

Goody goody gum drops! :eek:hboy:

Good. I'm certainly not against drafting a WR, but we sure don't want to do it with our first pick in the draft. Much more pressing needs than a rookie WR that won't see much time. We need an ILB, safety, NT, OT, and G much more than a WR early in the draft. I'll be shocked if we don't use our first pick on a linebacker, offensive lineman, safety, or big NT.

I don't want him at all. Via trade or release. I don't dislike the guy, but I don't want any more 30+ WRs who will command a salary based on their past reputation. I would rather get younger at WR.

absolutely. And that should go for other positions, though I'd exempt the O-line from this rule. If they are quick, even the elderly seem to do well on the line.

I think those of you that want to get rid of Crayton are just crazy. Yea, I get tired of his mouth at times, but he's pretty productive. Plus, he's got the most experience on our roster. I'm not against picking up a cheap vet, but we don't need to bet rid of Crayton. Not considering what we have behind him. No way.
