I was just discussing this in another thread. I believe paying huge dollars for the highest quality FAs pays off more often than not.
So long as the player is the right guy and plays as well as you thought he would. Never seen or heard of a team signing an expensive FA end up regretting it provided the guys plays up to expectations.
Two points I'm looking to make here and was considering starting a thread on it.
1) We need to go after the highest qulity FAs and succeed. 1-2 of them.
2) Failing to sign Nnamdi may very well have been the difference between 8-8 and 10-6.[/QUOTE]
I don't think he played that well.
The eagles defense overall for about half the season played poorly. He was good, certainly better than Newman.
I was calling for us to replace Newman with Nnamdi and a few weeks later when FA started, it turns out that's exactly what we tried to do.
I can't say I know how good Nnamdi would have been here in 2011 and certainly not going forward into 2012 and beyond. I do know he played for Ryan and Ryan wanted him. I also know that the cap hit for him would not have been too much more than what Newman is slated to count for 2011-2014.
I do now know that we are looking to release/replace Newman for certain.
I also know that Newman cost us big time in cap dollars and poor performance this year.
