For those that say no big deal with deflating a football

Or how about this one. Does that ball slip out of Tonys hand on the field goal in Seattle all those yrs ago that started that tony is a choker narrative

That ball was wet and brand new. They changed the rules after that to allow teams to use their own broken in balls.

As for the QBs; some much prefer them highly inflated and some like them less inflated. More of a preference thing.

If we had our balls deflated a little do we go onto the NFC Championship game last season?

1. Does DeMarco fumble?
2. Does that ball come out of Dez's grip?

1) yes, Murray still fumbles
2) hard to say about Dez...it was a catch anyway

Also, Aaron Rodgers fumbled. So we'd have to ask about that too.

Who knows.

It's just laughable to me that Brady gets 4 games for, by all intents and purposes, knowingly skirted the rules and attempted to create a competitive advantage, again.

Yet, Hardy gets 10 games for a case that's dropped, and once again for all intents and purposes, was borderline lunacy (as far as a actually presenting a case).

It kinda makes me think the powers at be care more about the "image" of the game, than the game itself.

Agree. With todays " media hype on everything" it impresses me that they are more concerned with the " court of public opinion" than they are what a real court with hard evidence would rule.

Lost in all of this, if I'm correct, is a statement by Aaron Rodgers that he likes his footballs " overinflated"....

If the Pats are guilty, then wheres the Wells investigation of the Pack.

Think of those dozens of games since 2007 played in the January cold in New England (or whever) when the Patriots were playing with a softer, easier-to-grip football than the Colts, Steelers, Ravens, Jets, Chargers, Broncos, Texans......

The real issue here is the integrity of the league. If fans start to believe what they're watching is being purposefully orchestrated or manipulated, the massive popularity of the sport will be deeply damaged, and football will join the ranks of the NBA and WWF.

Spygate and Deflate-gate. What else is New England doing to skirt the rules that hasn't surfaced?

It can be either, as long as it's within the boundaries. I wish they'd just inflate the balls to a certain PSI and be done with it. Go back to the days of official balls, not team balls.

Yea I was taught by my parents when I was like...I don't know, five?...that this isn't an excuse. I mean it really is such a childish argument.

So you never drive 1 MPH over the speed limit??? Do you complete every stop at a sign or light? Do you ever answer the phone in your car, or eat while driving? Do you ever play poker at home? Or do you ever connect to an unsecured wi-fi? You've never jaywalked, or peed outside. I can keep going, but hopefully you get the point. Useless rules or laws right? But nevertheless rules everyone breaks but don't get in trouble for. Same exact thing with deflating a ball by .07 ounces.

Except none of those provide a competitive advantage in a game that is supposed to be about fair competition. If I drive one mph over the speed limit or don't stop at a stop sign, who am I defeating? And if I'm caught, I get a ticket.

Did Rodgers say he did it over the prescribed limit?

Brady and the Pats got what they deserved. They broke the rules and were uncooperative with the league investigation. Myself I think the overall rule about the deflated ball is not that big of a deal but it is the rule and they rule has to be followed by all, teams or players do not get to choose which rules they play by and which ones they don't.

It was proven that deflating the balls is a negative thing for the passing game. It's just a matter of comfort.

Believe what you want. If it didn't provide an advantage why do it? I don't buy the video for what its worth. Heck, why don't they do a study on why the Patriots fumble rating dramatically decreased in 2007 - thats when the rule came out.

Of course the deflated balls didn't determine the outcome of the Colts game. Brady didn't know that. If he's innocent then why doesn't he show provide more evidence by opening his email and text messages for investigators? Maybe its not only 1 game that this occurred. Maybe its even several games - thus the issue is even larger that what the public is meant to believe.

Patriots have cheated before why do you think their NOT GUILTY of doing it again? Seriously, the Patriots deserved to punished worst than what they got. Brady should have been suspended for a year.

That ball was greased up. That was the shiniest football I ever seen and it was before each team controlled their own balls and it was supplied by a Seattle ball boy.

No it was a brand new ball that still had the factory coating on it.

Nowhere did Rodgers say he has the lockeroom attendant put more air in the balls after they have been checked by the refs. He was merely stating that different QBs like the ball with different levels of air in them. There is a big difference in submitting balls to the refs that are at or over the edge and allowing them to fix or not fix them as opposed to turning in balls that meet the rules and them letting air out after they were checked by the refs. Huge, huge difference.

The fumble stuff has been pretty thoroughly debunked - mostly having to do with Brady not fumbling (had a high rate in 2013 so it's not the balls).

I'm not saying they didn't cheat. I'm saying that they didn't cheat any differently than other teams do, as a number of QBs have commented how they basically do the same thing, in one way or another, and there was no advantage.

Where are the sources that the fumble stuff was totally debunked?

I think you need to read the Wells report to get a better clarification on what Brady did. Seems that some people can't understand that the balls was already measured and weighted and the ball boys went into the bathroom and tampered with the balls under recommendations of Brady. They would be rewarded with shoes and autographed material. So I take this to mean that this wasn't a 1st time occurrence. It also means that they know that this was breaking the rules including Brady.

Now you say all QBs do something similar to this one thing or another. I don't buy it. I don't see Romo bending the rules to favor him. And that video that was posted about the balls not giving an advantage? Thats bogus. If that was the case why then does Brady and the ball boys go through all this trouble to do it?

Take it for what its worth. Not all QBs do it. Thats almost like the speeding ticket excuse. Brady got caught and doesn't want to fess up. Stop making excuses for him.

The NFL and Goodell are like a soap opera, living in a fantasy world called "STUPID".

Fumble stats weren't debunked, not the right word, but basically rendered useless in terms of this argument: http://regressing.********.com/why-those-statistics-about-the-patriots-fumbles-are-mos-1681805710

Brad Johnson paying ball boys to do have balls scuffed, which would have the same effect - comfort and better grip - as deflating them: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/...o-have-footballs-altered-before-sb-37/2214490

Aaron Rodgers tries to get balls overinflated, explicitly : http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/20/aaron-rodgers-likes-his-footballs-overinflated/

Jeff Blake saying it happened all over the place: https://sports.vice.com/en_us/artic...l-a-former-nfl-star-speaks-out-on-deflategate

I never said all QBs do something, but if all of this is as easy to find as a 2 minute google search, imagine how many other quarterbacks over the years have doctored balls....
