Elway's Broncos were perenial contenders because of him more than anything else.JuliusCaesar said:The latest update on career comeback victories I could find for Bledsoe was 22 in Week 5 of 2003 - In 145 games Bledsoe had 22 comeback victories
Elway in 234 games had 47 comeback victories it's a 5% difference - So essentially I don't believe that is enough to let Elway in on (impact, legend) if he is that similar to Bledsoe ...
That is impact.
His comebacks weren't just regualr everyday comebacks. Some of them will be talked about forever. The drive to kill Cleveland for instance.
His scrambling ability separated him from Bledsoe. It wasn't just that he could scramble, it's that when he did it was usually a dagger in the heart. He did all that with a kneee with no cartildge in it.
In other words, he achieved legendary status in the NFL. When discussing the greatest QB ever he is in the discussion. I like Drew Bledsoe, but I'm sorry, he is not in that discussion.
Elway had an aura of invincibility around him. I'm calling that impact. You can call it whatever you want.
Players who make the Hall of Fame impact the game by more than just stats. Right now Bledsoe has nothing but stats and some of them work against him. To get in the Hall of Fame he would need to make a greater impact on the game.
Some here keep saying if he wins a Super Bowl. Maybe. It isn't a given. Jim Plunkett won 2 of them. He isn't in. That is where his stats would save him.
