Did you just equate soldiers getting shot at on the field with a night club shooting?

I love Emmit just like the rest of the Dc fans but.. Where is Cosell when you need him ? And one more thing is it just me or does Chris Bermans hands bother anyone, The palms up flip or the index to thumb thing. I swear he should just hide those fat little hands, I cant listen to a word he says I'm so focused on is hands. They upstage him all the time

Yeah, what is underestimated is how hard it is to be on screen talking to millions, and the nervousness that brings. Like a poll that was once taken, people voted public speaking over death as the thing they hated the most. So that means at a funeral, people would rather be in the casket than giving the euology.

I think Emmitt will get better as time goes on, but I dont know if he will get that chance.

BTW, it should be pointed out that some of these guys leave their brains at home when they go to the club, so the nightclub issue shouldn't be taken as one sided as it was by Bill.

Can we keep any conversations referring to Keith Davis and our military servicemen/servicewomen separate and exclusive of each other? Please?

Yes Please.

I had to fight my natural urges not to tear into that stupid comment.

I don't think it is the nightclub thing so much as which clubs you go to, how much protection you have there, who you know there, and if your an idiot when you get there. They are just making too big of deal about the club, and not enough about those things I stated above.
But then again if they simply stay out of "Night Clubs" all of the rest of those things become immaterial.

P.S. I think BP was actually targeting strip clubs (like where Killa got shot the first time) as opposed to some of the upscale dinner and dancing type night clubs. In those places (strip clubs) you are a lot more likely to find a fight or some other kind of trouble than at a more upscale place.

Players get in trouble in a lot of places but nightclubs early in the morning hours sure rank in there. Not only did Keith Davis get shot at a nightclub, but so did Chris Canty (he was in Arizona working out & his eye got damaged), and we can't forget Ken Hamlin whose skull was fractured when he was there with a woman. In all these cases, the players weren't doing anything wrong, but the problem is you can't control those around you who may have guns with them and they are drunk, etc.

Actually Keith Davis is a future paramedic. In many of his interviews he is well versed on pressure points, stoppage of bleeding and getting to hospital fast. It's no coincidence he's alive today - JMO. That and a little luck!

Let's face it, some guys just know how to stay out of trouble(or roll as the kids say:D ) I look at the MLB HOF class and see guys like Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken and think how special it is to have stars that really know how to act for an entire career. As Mike said in his HOF speech, don't do what i did.

Guess my point is this, if you are in their position, you need to know your surroundings when you do go out. It should be well known and expected that all of these guys with all this money aren't going to sit at home every night watching Jay Leno.

We don't really know everything that happened in every situation, but if you go out to a place and you are a guy in their position, you can get close enough to the people there so that you are protected if anything happens. Instead, some go in there "making it rain" and generally acting like an idiot, so when bad things pop off, they are in the crossfire cause no one in the club cares about them at all.

Its not only the club, its the player not be careful enough to protect himself while there. It is easier to blame it on the club atmosphere than the player actually using his brain while he is there.

NFL players in nightclubs and hanging out late at night are targets for all this.

Pacman is exhibit A and Killah and Hamlin on our team exhibit B.

Candidly, It's not just football players. If average Joe Fan frequents and hangs out at Night clubs at 1:30 in the morning the odds of something bad happening to them expand exponentially.

I understand what you are saying and you are right about how they should handle themselves if they do go to these places. They should do these things even in the upscale places or even on a trip to the local Dairy Queen. My point is that with the money these guys make they can afford to go to places where it is less likely that something bad will happen in the first place...and that is what they ultimately should do. They don't have to stay home and watch Jay Leno but there are places they can go besides some sleazy back alley strip club with a name like the “The T&A Lounge.” Whichever of our methods they use to stay out of trouble they have to use their heads...therein lies the problem.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. I mean some of them will stay at home with their families, like Cal and Gywnn who was mentioned, but that just not a reality with others in a different situation and not all people like the same things.

I guess my problem lies in them not being smart when they do go out. Telling them not to go out is just not reality for a single guy in their position, but by the very least, at least they could be smart when they do. The club is the scapegoat, if they are careful, most of it can be avoided.

Tip the guys at the door, talk to the manager in a polite way (establish a relationship), even go to a special VIP section. I promise you, any club in America will take care of that guy, even by making sure he isn't in the papers the next day if something does happen. Do all do that?? Nope, they go in there as an idiot, so if they get caught in the crossfire, noone in that club cares, only the diehard fans of the team he plays for and the media care.

Actually they do go to upscale places usually in private rooms. But like Darrent Williams - that is fraught with catching up with problems and jealousy. Part of the fame is the fact these players just can't nightclub as Parcells said.

And average Joe Fan runs same risk boozing at 1:30 in clubs.

Well, I'm actually a Bill fan, but I agree and disagree with him on this subject I guess. If the guy is so dumb that he doesn't know how to handle himself when he goes out, then I agree with Bill. But I really think, someone, anyone, should advise these guys when they go out on how they should to act, cause at least some of it could be avoided. Mind you this shouldn't be a guy with no experience in the area, should be a guy who knows how to do it, granted there are few that really know how to go out.

In Bill's point of view, he is just saying all are dumb, so let's tell them all to stay at home. But I think if someone would step up and tell them HOW to go out, it would be better.

No I think Bill Parcells says mostly nothing good is going to happen to you after midnight at nighclubs.

Facts are on his side, even a well intentioned night out can blow up on a NFL player. See Darrent Williams as exhibit A.

You have one exhibit, but there are many, many more where nothing has happened and no news was made cause there is no reason to report it unless something bad happens. I have seen first hand high profile athletes go out for a decade or more with no incident. Call it luck, or they were careful, whichever you like to go with.

Sure if we go to work and home everyday, our chances of something happening goes down. If you are married with children, you have more of a reason to do that. But if you are not, and want to have a little fun, going out isn't a bad thing, if you are smart about it.

It all depends on how you act and what kind of image you want to project. If you're out there trrying to act like a pimp or a gangster, guess what kind of trouble you are going to attract.

Pimp is as pimp does.
