I appreciate the fact that Roy Williams was a Dallas Cowboy -- for several years he was the face of America's Team. I thank him for that and wish him luck.

I find it difficult, however, to believe he seriously wants to play football. I would not be surprised if he is cut or retires before the start of the regular season.

The weight issue was always a problem but it was hardly a reason for his downfall. I think his main concerns were all mental. He never was a person who lived football, he lost his edge after the horsecollar flap and was snakebit after that.

The fact he continually made excuses was indicative that he really did not self-evaluate very well and continued to do exactly what he thought worked. Turns out, it really didn't. I don't expect a revival unless he has a complete mental turnaround in Cincinnati. I think that's probably more harmful going back into something he's comfortable with. He needed a challenge to get his fires burning again. I don't believe going back to Zimmer's defense is going to be a radical move for him and it allows him to continue the same bad habits he's had over the past three-four years.

I do find it interesting that the same year in which Roy was released Dallas drafted a bunch of players in which our staff claim to "love football".

Might just be a tad bit related.

On the week Roy was drafted, he did a radio interview and said that he would probably play five years and then retire.

That's pretty much what he did ... only he kept showing up for work and collecting a paycheck.

Football was just not that important to him.

I glad Roy Williams found a job. I have always liked him as a player. He did have some problems on the backend of the defense, but prior to that he was a good player for Dallas for a long time.

I think certainly this is where a bunch of the Roy hate came from. He even noted that he was "rededicating himself" a while back. To me, you pay a guy what we paid Roy and he shouldn't waver in his commitment. The other thing that stuck in my craw was how thin skinned he was about criticism - he lacked maturity and leadership when taking heat from the press, often making some stories (e.g., the Commanders game) much bigger than they needed to be. Not committed to the game yet doesn't want to hear criticism of his play (deserved or not).

I for once would like to see a player say this after winning the Super Bowl.

"I'd like to thank Satan for all my powers to play ball, without him i'd never be where I am today"

with all the Bengal bashing it should be noted that they played the Eagles a whole hell of a lot better than we did last year. They weren't that bad last year, just had some internal issues that needed tending to. I doubt Roy makes them a better team, but it seems like the defense is getting on the right track. The owners must have a lot of faith in Marvin casue not many teams would have stayed that track.

I'm not a religious guy what-so-ever, but I don't see how what Roy does in his personal life have to do with his skills.

We are constantly looking for ignorant reasons to why a person can't perform, how about this, he's just not that good.

You guys remember when Roy showed up to camp really thin? He did it by taking a bunch of weight loss pills, and gained it all back by week one. He has and always will be lazy. I don't care what Coach Jurrassic has said about him and his work ethic, he has looked soft the past 3 years.

I don’t believe in the Christian god and i wouldn’t blame religion for his fall. His story is similar to many...money made them comfortable and they were not willing to keep doing the work to stay at the top.

Good luck Roy and good riddance.

I wish Roy the best. I hope he regains his love for the game. Once he does that, I think he can be a very good player again.

Best of luck Roy.

Honestly I don't care what Roy does. I just think it would be funny to see since god gets all the credit. I want to see satan get credit for once.

Good luck to Roy though. I mean most of this board was drooling over Roy with silly little videos synced up to POD's Boom. How soon we forget.

Yeah the sad part is I believe he said that prior to the draft as well. I think it was eight years though and he's pretty much on track......

WOW! Why can't people just let bygones be bygones? The guy will soon be playing on another team and some are still here wringing their "told u so" hands... That's so lame to me. I enjoyed half of his years spent here and found lesser enjoyment in the other half. that said, I wish him the best in his future NFL endeavours.

Because some of us feel he failed here because of lack of effort. And, to me, that is inexcusable.

This is probably the best way to describe Roy. Lost his love for the game or his skills diminished. That's no reason to bash him, some players just can't sustain a high level of play for a long time.
