Let's see.

Mr Williams, a young man who should be in his prime, was granted his release (early, I might add), and had ONE team – the lowly Bengals – kick the tires.

Yeah, Adam really showed me who's boss.
This is why if you only look at stats, you'll be stuck in a bottle and won't really see the truth. Just open your eyes, watch the games, record the games, go back and re-watch the game slowly, and this will tell you all you need to know about players.

Ever since Woody left town, Roy has progressively declined all the way down to a nobody.

All of the fighting should stop. We are all Cowboy fans so that already makes us the most intelligent fans in the world. Look, either you liked Roy Williams or you didn't and you will either root for him to succeed in Cinci or to fail in Cinci.

From everything I've seen he was a pretty good person so I'll be rooting for him. We've had so many questionable players in our history that it's easy to hate on any ex-Cowboy for what he did or didn't do here.

Personally, I'll be rooting for Roy to turn around his once promising career unless of course he is playing us... in which case, I will be very happy to see receivers run right by him and Roy to look around for someone to blame :D

This conversation should end now. Do not turn on each other Cowboy fans. What are we, Commanders fans or something?

You were disappointed in him...he didn't play well...but you defended him anyways...

And you call that far more realistic? :laugh2:

Who was turning on who?

Some of us were objective when Roy's game started going downhill and simply stated as much - only to be shouted down by his fanboys who refused to acknowledge he wasn't the same player he was in his first two seasons and arrogantly told us we were crazy because "they had stats to prove it".

I'd love to see Roy turn it around, because I think he is a genuinely good guy, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe he will.

I'm not surprised that you're incapable of seeing the grey area. Not surprised at all.

You laugh, but it's actually quite sad.

You keep telling yourself that.

Ok, now I'm really done.

Thats not what I said. I only said that once he did take on religion, his play dropped off dramatically and that is a fact. I didn't say it was because of, I only noted the relation in time period.

I'd say it had more to do with him putting on weight, whatever it was, where it wasn't needed. The guy got too big in the lower body and his hip movements became horrible. He almost became lead-footed. All you ahve to do is look at his legs and hips from his first two years and compare them to his latter years, and you'll see a significant difference. His biggest dinstinguishing characteristic was how he moved and attacked the ball.

As I said before, if it was his trainer that did it, that trainer needs to be shot.

Dude I've been saying this forever. She broke his heart and he's never been the same since. Him finding GOD has nothing to do with it, losing Kelly tore him apart. That gal finished him.....

That is a rumor that has been perpetuated forever. Roy Williams broke up with Kelly, not the other way around. He said that he was reading some article about relationships in a magazine, and he then realized he wasn't ready to get married. She even confirmed that he broke it off.

http://concreteloop.com/2006/06/roy-williams-describes-breakup-with-kelly-rowland

Roy's play declined because he grew legs like tree trunks, and with his decline in his ability to move, his instincts declined as well. He thought too much.

Zimmer, Johnson, Williams... I guess the Bengals are where old Cowboys go to be put out to pasture.

"Act like children," he says with his "who me?" expression.

Again, whatever.

This thread is a prime example of most knowing when to fold 'em if you ask me.

You may say you were disappointed in him as well, but you and a number of others sure had a strange way of showing it.

Pick your RW supporter, and I bet I can provide evidence of that person expressing legitimate disappointment with his play on the field.

The debate was *never* about whether or not fans had a right to be disappointed with RW. It was always about what they were angry with and how they chose to handle, or not handle, their disappointment. If you felt persecuted, it's probably because you failed to grasp that point.

There'll be fans on this board who will try to be fair to every one of our players, and that's generally a good thing.

It's bizarre to hear pro-RW supporters characterized as shouting down anybody. They were a very small and rational minority who argued mostly from evidence. Did I somehow miss the shouting?

I'd say this is another example of histrionic mischaracterization of what actually happened, but it's just that that would be so out of character for the anti-RW posters on the board. Clearly, I missed some shouting somewhere.

But he really didn't lay any wood when we tried to move him to the LOS, most of his big hits came against smaller receivers in days of old. If Roy had been injured or aged, I'd have more sympathy for him, but he got paid (big time) and then got lazy - it's his own fault.

I agree his play dropped off and it seem to drop off about the same time the Roy Williams rule came into play. I'm not making excuses for him he should have played through that but seem to me he became less aggressive in how he played the game. With Zimmer as his coach once again maybe Mike can get him going. I hope for Roy sake he can.

I apologize but I find it really annoying when people say he sucked after finding God like the two are related.

Roy Williams problem was he was never dedicated to football. He allowed his weight to be a problem and never was big on studying film. He isn't worst in coverege than Rodney Harrison who has excelled in NE at age 80 or what ever.

He did lose the ability to make big plays / hits.

His first 2 1/2 years the guy was a Demarcus Ware type presence in our secondary.

Receivers were just randomly dropping passes against our defense in fear of getting KO'd.

Im with you on people corelating the religion thing.

But Roy went from one of the best in the game to just average as he can be.

The weight issue was always a problem but it was hardly a reason for his downfall. I think his main concerns were all mental. He never was a person who lived football, he lost his edge after the horsecollar flap and was snakebit after that.

The fact he continually made excuses was indicative that he really did not self-evaluate very well and continued to do exactly what he thought worked. Turns out, it really didn't. I don't expect a revival unless he has a complete mental turnaround in Cincinnati. I think that's probably more harmful going back into something he's comfortable with. He needed a challenge to get his fires burning again. I don't believe going back to Zimmer's defense is going to be a radical move for him and it allows him to continue the same bad habits he's had over the past three-four years.
