Up untill 1863 the law said you could have slaves, and it was not untill an amendment some years later that the question was definitly settled. So OGT and PEPLAW would have been the people sympathizing with the slave holders and cheering on the bounty hunters who went after escaped slaves; and therefore would have wanted to put the people running the Underground railroad in jail. So hiding behind the law is in the end the more cowardly thing.

It makes you wonder though, exactly how much more stuff they have gotten away with, especially if this recent allegation has any merit?

Nice non answer to your statement that defied factual merit. Pats blew most all teams out easily. In fact accused of "running up" the score by cheatdoubhters.

Horror - an 18-0 team might have had a few close games. As there has never been another 18-0 NFL team I find that shocking and great find on your part!

Since when does Senate investigation require that a law be broken? Usually when the law is broken, it's the DOJ and judiciary that get involved. I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the US government.

I see a senile, rogue Senator blowing smoke. Back to McCarthey analogy. Total BS, I'm awaiting Patriots, Kraft and BB to be arraigned and charged here. LOL

Charged? What the hell are you talking about?

One thing the patsy defenders keep convienently trying to ignore: all three of their SB wins were by very narrow margins; just one or two plays and each could have gone the other way. Can the Patsy defenders categorically state that the signal stealing and possible other chicanery had NO EFFECT AT ALL ON THOSE GAMES? If not then why did they do it?

Conversely, if they were cheating and truly benefitting from it, wouldn't they have won by a more significant margin?

No, that's some shoddy logic.

How about barely winning it at all due to cheating? There is a lot more evidence that way. The years the Pats won it- how highly ranked was their offense and defense? Not all that, were they?

just think if the panthers don't kick the ball out of bounds with a minute left the pats probably woulda lost even though they cheated

So what's the excuse now?

They undoubtedly aren't that brazen as to continue cheating, yet now have run roughshod over the entire league.

It is obvious to me that this cheating angle is more sour grapes than anything that can be demonstrated.

I don't think for a second that they are innocent. I am sure they did it and like anything that cuts corners you are going to get some residual effect.

But in the grand scheme of a football game, there are too many uncontrollable factors.

The Rams, Eagles and Panthers all did their fair share to contribute to the fact they lost.

But it is so much easier to just fit everything into a nice neat "cheater" box to fuel the jealousy.

what is moral and what is legal; and what is immoral and what is illegal quite often do not connect. Laws are made by politicians and interpreted by judges who have their own prejudices and agendas. What makes the law better then the judgement of people as regards what is moral and what is immoral?
frankly, what the majority of people think is immoral or moral to me is a higher standard then the law.
You really amaze me sometimes at the sheer stupidity of your comments.

Exhibit A. What a completely ludicrous thing to say. You are a complete and utter joke on this board. Any time you get into what has been a civil debate you immediately take it into ridiculous mud slinging and baseless name calling. The only thing more embarrassing is your complete lack of rationality on just about every subject.

Every NFL game in the modern era can be won or lost by either team. So while there are hundreds of variables in every game, if you can get an edge legally you do it.

If you do it illegally, and you end up being successful, I don't care how much of an effect it actually had in your winning, the majority of people who aren't fans of your team are going to think your success is tarnished. This really isn't that hard to understand.

This isn't so much about the Pats of this year, but the organization in general because of what they have apparently done in the past. I don't think anyone in here is disputing that they're a great team THIS YEAR -- I know I'm not. But the organization's reputation goes beyond that.

This really really really makes me angry. I'm so sick of the Pats and all their cheating. And we all know that Goodell won't do anything about it. Maybe the government can force the NFL to action.

I'm just so upset that I actually have to question the integrity of the game I love like this. It's so frustrating that the Pats are doing this and yet the NFL continues to ignore it.

Taking away a 1st round draft pick is hardly ignoring it, they should have handled the whole thing better but they didn't ignore it.
I don't think the NFL did them any favors by destroying the tapes either cause people will question their success when it's impossible to know how much of an impact they had on it

The problem most people have is that the Pats go rather unpunished for it. Taking away a late first round pick when they already have a high first round pick and fining Kraft/Belichick $750k isn't going to cut it.

Whether we think the cheating is important or not, it did damage the integrity of the game in the eyes of many fans. My gripe isn't so much that the Patriots broke the rules, it's that they got such a slap on the wrist (they should have been forced to forfeit the Jets game) that there's virtually nothing to stop them or another team from doing it again if that's the punishment that will be doled out. And Goodell destroying the evidence stinks to high heaven.
