Free Agency Day 1

I don't think we overpaid him. 4 million + incentives? It's a good deal.

He made $3MM with incentives last year and frankly didn't play all that great to get a 66% raise IMO.

But an extra $2MM to McClain is probably the least of our problems.

Obviously Aikman recommended LaFleur who may have ended up a good receiving TE had it not been for back problems which I believe he had in college. He did have 7 receiving TD's in 99. LaFleur was a need pick with the Cowboys trying to replace Novacek.

Him tossing passes to him in a workout and giving a blessing is one thing.

The scouting staff and medical staff should have been able to catch the back issues, which were not unknown at the time.

That is what they call an organizational failure.

.... and the meltdown has already begun. Most fans seem to want instant gratification ala Madden. They don't seem to remember Vanderjagt, TO, Marco Rivera, Bryant Westbrook, Ryan Young, Carr, Eddie George, Randal Cunningham, Joey Galloway, Ryan Leaf and Tony Banks to name a few. Smart teams don't spend heavily in free agency. If your very lucky you might get a short term gain like the Broncos did with Ware and Peyton but look at them now. The vast majority of time it handicaps you for years to come. So just sit back, observe the meltdown and the haters who will reply negatively to this thread and enjoy.

Oh my goodness. You have proven that you are clueless on much more than just our incompetent coach for which you love to be the lead cheerleader. Just a a little advice, too much amber beer can affect your judgment. You have proven beyond doubt you are clueless with the list you posted. You don't even realize how we acquired most of the guys you mentioned.

Peyton signed in February before FA.
Talib signed 4 days after FA began.
Vazquez 5 days
Sanders 9 days
TJ Ward 5 days
Daniels 4 days
Ware 5 days

Not one of them were signed on the first day of free agency.

Regardless of when they were signed.

Denver knew what they had to do in order to get back in the superbowl.

What have our FO done lately?

I'm sure the team knew about LeFleur's back issues with all the research teams do on players prior to the draft they had to know but the Cowboys were in real need for a TE and were willing to take the chance.

Another of the Madden crowd.

Yep. Remember when wanted Gonzales who went a couple of picks before, who we wanted as well?? That's the way it goes!

In 1983 the Dallas Mavericks took Roy Tarpley at #3. Right before him at #2, Michael Freakin Jordan!

Gonzalez actually went 9 picks before LeFleur. Entering the draft the Cowboys knew they had virtually no shot at Gonzales who was by far the highest rated TE and settled for LeFleur. The team was talking up LeFluer prior to the draft because they knew Gonzalez would be long gone by the time they were on the clock.

I have never played "Madden" in my life. My video games were Pong, Astroids, and PacMan. I do have common sense.for which you are in extremely short supply.

Fuzzy I usually like most you say but you cant be saying these guys werent valued FAs, they were all team shopping...Talib, Ware, and Ward all in the same day to go along with what was already in place had me going :omg:. I have toooo many Bronco fans and I was ticked.....all I could say was, but did you see the contracts? You guys over paid, etc.

That's right! I do remember needing the replacement for another player with a bad back though! ;)

Yeah, we lose one TE with a bad back and go after another one with a bad back.

The problem is Jerry operating as if Romo has another 4-5 years. Realistically, we need to be adding more talent to help us win now. If not, go get what you hope to be the quarterback of the future.

From Troy. Jerry asked him, and told him what it would cost and he said (paraphrasing here) "go get him Jerry. Do whatever it takes". Jerry didn't have a clue!

I don't know. That was Troy's comments to Jerry about Henson after his workout. I never heard Troy give any input on Galloway and never saw it reported, at least not that I can remember.

So when you're broke you think gambling is the best way to make money?

We want the same goal, we just think your method of getting there is lacking.

I have expressed a balanced method, thank you!

Dumpster Diving is just as bad as overpaying for misevaluated talent, just the opposite end with the same outcome!

A lot of scolding going on in here from both sides a out opinions. Neither side is correct...because theyre arguing about opinions. Its not even entertaining or thought provoking.
