Not trying to blow your smugness out of the water, but the bolded players listed, they were not high profile free agent signings after day one.

In fact, one very significant acquisition, Galloway, was a direct result of our owner being impulsive and wanting to "win now" via trade.

You aren't even bright enough to realize most of these signings were actually dumpster diving like we are doing now

In retrospect they were dumpster diving but at the time they were not Mr. Smarty pants.

No, they were doing it then. You do not recall the cap circumstances during the Campo era with a lot of these signings you mentioned?

It might be nice if people just called it as it is.

I understand the whole cap prudence thing. It is necessary.

But to act like this is just the team being deliberately cautious to the point of calling the stance smart is completely dishonest.

It's what the signings did to the salary cap subsequent to the signings Mr. Smarty pants.

Sorry, I am going to have to hold off on intellectual debate with someone who uses the term "Mr. Smarty Pants". Twice. In the space of a few minutes.

Let me know when you are going to unleash "doody head" and "fart face" so I can prepare for the onslaught.

Watching Twitter is fun while we stand pat just because it worked once in 2014. I by no means want to overpay. I want to use money on 1-2 needs to free up draft. Bargains still leave you needing to draft studs.

I thought I had heard that. His original post stated that "smart teams don't spend heavily in free agency," but the Broncos showed that to not be true. Made 2 of the last 3 super bowls, and won one this year.

With the exception of Ware and Manning most of the those guys got deals in the 3-5m AAV range. Talib signed for less than Carr the year after we signed him. Ware got like 3/$30m which is not a lot for a premium pass rusher.

Denver spent wisely in FA and got people to take less than top dollar.

It continues to surprise me what some people seem to be able to get away with around here.

.... and the meltdown has already begun. Most fans seem to want instant gratification ala Madden. They don't seem to remember Vanderjagt, TO, Marco Rivera, Bryant Westbrook, Ryan Young, Carr, Eddie George, Randal Cunningham, Joey Galloway, Ryan Leaf and Tony Banks to name a few. Smart teams don't spend heavily in free agency. If your very lucky you might get a short term gain like the Broncos did with Ware and Peyton but look at them now. The vast majority of time it handicaps you for years to come. So just sit back, observe the meltdown and the haters who will reply negatively to this thread and enjoy.

Throwing TO in there wasnt a great example

I think he had one significant example. But going with the current way we grade intelligence in this country now, that is at least good enough for a participation ribbon.

Don't act like Galloway was just Jerry's fault. Aikman told him to go get him!

They were all good examples. Do some research and get back to me.

Mario Williams for 2 years at 17 million is pretty cheap for a Premium pass rusher, cheaper than Ware was. Williams also seems to be about where DWare was at the time he signed with Denver.

Aikman also told him to draft David LeFleur.

Yep. Remember when wanted Gonzales who went a couple of picks before, who we wanted as well?? That's the way it goes!

In 1983 the Dallas Mavericks took Roy Tarpley at #3. Right before him at #2, Michael Freakin Jordan!

Where did you hear this?

From Troy. Jerry asked him, and told him what it would cost and he said (paraphrasing here) "go get him Jerry. Do whatever it takes". Jerry didn't have a clue!

We may look at Galloway better if we hadnt given up two 1sts (it was a trade) not a free agent grab and he didnt go down with an ACL after the first game he ever played for us for the year.... I was there:(

Aikman provided recommendations.

That is it. And if I recall correctly, he liked Gonzalez the most then the silly Sports Illustrated article where he "signed off" on LaFleur was published.

LaFleur was just as much Lacewell as Aikman. And I am pretty sure Aikman was not in the draft room pounding the table for Jerry Jones to trade up for him.

It just goes to show you the power of PR.

Obviously Aikman recommended LaFleur who may have ended up a good receiving TE had it not been for back problems which I believe he had in college. He did have 7 receiving TD's in 99. LaFleur was a need pick with the Cowboys trying to replace Novacek.
