Free Agent Pass Rushers

Ok let me put this way....lets get our team total sacks up from 36 to about 42

I think if we had a stud they would give him more than 656 snaps. Jared crick and Von Miller got over 900 snaps each in Denver because they are good/great players. Oliver Vernon got 1040 snaps with the Giants and JPP had 792 while missing 4 games. Chandler jones got a 1000 snaps and Calais got 830 ect.....

I guess the better the players you have, the more snaps you want them to play. If they Cowboys are looking for 5 sack guys, they got a ton of those. I don't think sending waves of 5 sacks guys is the answer.

Mayowa, tank, Irving, t Crawford are all 5 sacks guys, if that's the case we should be good. But we aren't IMO

Oh no disagreement on getting the sacks up over 40.

Seattle has done well with limiting their dlinemen's snaps.

Dallas seems to be following that model.

We probably will be well served to sign a VFA pass rusher as long as the price is not too high.

Remember this: NE had 24 sacks this year. Can you name their star pass rushers without looking them up and not being a follower. I know none.

So don't sell the farm for a pass rusher. Just try to get one if you can.

I had to do some research since you brought it up

So in 2015 Bennet and Avril had 812 and 789 reps
2014 they 829 and 715

The Cowboys 2015 tank and hardy had 698 and 596 ( Hardy 4 games suspension)
2915 mincey had 706 and Crawford 624

They are only about 100 snaps difference of for each of the ends

Yep, I think if the Cowboys had a top talent he could get 800 snaps but it just isn't the type of defense where a d-lineman is going to get those 1,000 snaps.

i think i would rather have pressures (on QB), than sacks (which are nice)
are there stats that measure to see if there is a connection between the two?
a QB throwing of his back foot or leaving pocket before he can throw has to be good

JPP is going to command around 13-15m per year, in my opinion. I don't think he's a realistic target.

I don't think there's an easy and quick fix to the DE situation, unfortunately. Chances are we're not looking at a drastically improved situation at the position next season.

Agreed, JPP is always beat up and missing time too. He is a dominant player when healthy, but feel you'll only get that 4 games a season. As soon as he gets a little banged up his production drastically falls off and is a shell of himself. I just can't see him living up to his contract. I'll pass on JPP....

His PFR AV Grades the last 3 years:
15
13
16

According to their grading metric, Campbell was one of best DLMen in the league last year.

I don't think we had DL to score over a 8 or 9.

Cambell and Chandler Jones are the only free agent des that I think could be full-time impact players that I would be interested in signing. I just don't know if Cambell is more of a lde or dt in the 4-3... I think regardless where he plays he can make a big impact.

Of the rest of the free agents Ware is the only other one I would have interest in that I think could still provide high production as a part time player.... The rest I don't know if they would be an upgrade over our current options...

I doubt we're going to toss out a big FA contract to a DE in this class. With that being the case I'd be all for a 1 year deal for someone like Ware, Peppers, or Freeney. Someone who has some pass rush ability is probably not going to break the bank and is also not going to be an anchor on the roster for years to come. I know a lot of people don't want that guy, but it almost feels like we need one of those players who can show how its done to some of the younger guys on the team.

On if he would go out and get a top pass rusher...

Jones: If I have a chance to bring one of these premiere pass rushers, one of these war daddies that takes two to block, if I have a chance to get a player like that - I would...it's not a question of that. It's a question of where is he? And who gives him up if he's a veteran, or where is he in the draft, or where is he anywhere? So, yeah we do need pressure. We're going to try to do something about it.

That's because you have 2 very young guys there and a guy who was only in his first season with the Cowboys.

No they have All been injured consistently, even the big fa from philly we threw money at. He gets a doever, McClain got motivated by the fleeting glimpse of a payday...

I think overall it's a decent group. And I would expect an improvement out of Collins, Irving and Thornton in his 2nd season with this system.

Collins was the biggest surprise for me. He got 5 sacks and made a lot of nice plays. Yuuuuuge upside...

You have one in Collins.

T Crawford & Irving will both probably get a lot of snaps at DT and they're decent pass rushers too.

Pass rush from the DT spot isn't the big problem.
Maybe I should have added consistent pocket collapsing DT because none of those guys fit the bill
