"There are certain things an NFL franchise can never have too many of. Lombardi trophies, draft picks, home drug testing kits, platforms for go-go dancers at their stadiums. Also in this category; pass rushers.

With a defensive system such as the one the Cowboys use, where the goal is to send waves of pressure at opposing quarterbacks, multiple pass rushers is a mighty fine thing. With that in mind, Dallas might want to consider contacting the representatives for free agent Dwight Freeney, 36, and see if there might be some mutual interest.

Freeney is certainly ready to go." (cont'd)

A four week look and see might not be a bad idea !!!

He is literally the only available free agent at this point that I think would be an upgrade on our team.

They will not sign him till after the first week anyway.

I don't think so. If they want Greenery sign him now . I'd he is signed there is no chance he gets cut. Si might as well sign him now . I don't want him through I prefer to see what the young guys got

I would prefer they sign the guy ....... I don't trust Gregory to make an entire season if he comes back.

I just don't think they will sign a veteran till the second week of the year.

Again ........ I hope they do.

WOW!! just came back and saw my post. Love Auto Correct and my poor typing skills

Is it that easy? Don't we have to sign him to a veteran minimum and isn't that guarantied contract. Again I don't know so I'm asking?

It's only guaranteed if he's on the opening week roster. That's why you'll see a lot of vets cut on the final cut down only to be resigned (by any team) after the first game. If signed after the first game, teams can cut the player at any point in the season and owe them nothing.

I'm on the bandwagon with you. Totally onboard with this signing. A team with this sorry pass rush needs a proven player like Freeney.

Give him Jack Crawford's spot and salary.

Was he "done" last year when he had 8 sacks in 11 games? He'd walk in today and be this team's best pass rusher and one of the few who could actually play all 16 games.

And in his previous three years when he was actually younger, he totaled nine in three years....no thanks, just because he had a decent year, although short lived because of injury, he was part of a great defense in Arizona, Dallas is nowhere near as good as Arizona's defense...last year was last year....you don't waste your time on aging veterans in a young man's game that is the NFL.....

As an older vet if he gets signed to a minimum deal he will only count what a second year player minimum salary counts against the cap except for any incentives he reaches. You are talking about such a small amount that paying the whole salary literally costs us a couple $100k more than Rico Gathers costs us. Money shouldn't play a factor in this, especially when we pay scrubs like Heath a deal averaging over 2m a year.

Not trying to pick on Heath because he is a hard worker but could use Church as an example.

Proven???? the guy is done!!!

He played in just a couple games in 2013 due to injury, and in 2014 he wasn't great but still had 3.5 sacks in limited duty. In 2015 not only did he have 8 sacks playing around 20-25 snaps a game but he also forced three fumbles. No brainer.
