Who cares, we got by with Mincey and a guy off the couch. All's well and let's get the guys in TC so we can
see what we may have before we start paying old guys way past their prime.

I care. About more than "getting by". I've seen enough of 8-8 to last a lifetime.

That "old guy way past his prime" would have led this team in sacks last year. Can't 'spin' that fact away.

8 sacks in 317 snaps is definately worth 1-2 million or more.

As a rotational or passing down pass rusher, he will not be stopping the progress of our talented young guys that we scooped up from other peoples practice squads.

An aging prowbowler with 8 sacks in 317 snaps for 1 mill ( his salary last year) > 6 DE s who have a combine total of 14 sacks in the NFL. Plus hes not facing suspension and if one of our Biadasz DEs get suspended for another failed drug test he will provide great insurance.

On a side note, i hope we dont side Larry Fitgerald because he would definately mess up Devin Street and Butlers progress and his old legs cant cut it anymore.

They told 007 the game had passed him by, but luckily he didnt listen and saved the world for 1000th time.

Pass! next pile of steaming garbage please?

Marinelli says let the young guns compete and all is well. Geez, it's not even TC yet and people are
jumping off the bridge.

WHO is going to come out and wreck shop?

All we heard for 4 months from you people is "A rookie DE can't make an impact!" - Now all of a sudden, our young guys who have no starting experience will be our saviors in the first 4 games? Be consistent with your arguments.

You don't know how he would have done in this defense. He got 8 sacks in 11 games for the Arizona Cardinals. It is not a direct translation. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the team that had a huge problem getting turnovers cause it never had a lead to protect also wouldn't be getting sacks against the other team just chewing clock playing safe and holding their lead.

Those vets aren't borderline HoFers though. I seriously doubt that Freeney won't be on a team after week 1.

True, I was just responding to the question of how veterans' contracts are guaranteed (or not) for a season.

Feel free to tell yourself whatever you'd like. The fact is that Freeney is a Hall of Fame player who had more sacks in 11 games than anyone on this team did in 16.

Cowboy brass don't like veterans. He'll land in NE and give them 25 good snaps a game.

I have to say this, you guys who want to bring everyone who has a name that's been heard are going to be disappointed because
Stephen has said that the Boys are full up and aren't bringing anyone else in until TC. We will see!

Im not saying they will, I'm saying they should. Be aware of the difference. Believe it or not, every move the Cowboys do or don't make isn't always the right one.

Steve Keim and the Cardinals selectively used free agency and found two vets that the less-informed said were "washed up" in Dwight Freeney and Chris Johnson. And both paid off big time while the Cardinals had a 13-3 season and a playoff win over the Packers. While Stephen Jones and the Cowboys went 4-12.

Most of us know that we went 4-12 because Romo, Dez and Scandrick were out for most of the year. The defense had to stay on the field most of the
game and tired in 4th quarters. Teams could game plan for the miserable QB's we had to put out there with the hope to move the ball. Most all teams have
issues when there franchise QB goes down for more that 2 or 3 games. Look at Indy for a quick reference.

I know that was the majority of the reason, but not all of it.

It's one thing to struggle, it's another to be completely inept.

That "quick reference" to Indy showed me that they managed to go 8-8.

The other issue I would point out is Indy has better coaches and our coaches could not adapt to the backup QB's
we had. Even Weeden performed better with the Texans that he did with us which is an indictment of Garrett
and his dogmatic reliance on "his" scheme. We could have won more games but, coaches seemed stuck in
their own ruts. Even Jerry pointed out that the coaches in fact let the team down when things got rough with
Weeden and Cassell.

Well, out of those 12 losses, I believe at least 8 of them were within one score. We lost a lot of games that were settled by essentially 1-2 plays, that is why I blame the coaches more than the personnel. We were not a good team last season but if we had a few breaks or our coaches made the right calls, we could've easily been 8-8. That just goes to show how close the NFL is.

What progress is he going to stop? Name one of these backups with his pass rushing ability.

Apparently, they can't bear to part with an 'undiscovered gem' like Jack Crawford, who, by the way, has fewer sacks for his entire career than Freeney had playing part-time last season.

You'll get zero disagreement from me on that. It was one of the other factors I had alluded to.

I blame the coaches too. And I hope the Joneses honestly do as well. All of them should be on notice that if things don't markedly improve that top to bottom, changes will be made.

Garrett now has a 'steak on every plate'. A Pro Bowler or significant asset at every starting position on offense. If it's not among the Top 5 league-wide (barring significant injuries obviously), there's nobody to blame but Linehan and him. The Joneses have given him everything any coach could ask for to be successful there. If he's not, it's on him.
