His pass rush will do little if we don't plug the middle. There were several occasions last year where we got decent push on the ends, but the quarterback would just step up in the pocket and either take off or buy extra time to find the open receiver.

Here's hoping Collins can provide that inside rush.

The middle should be sound with Thornton, a healthy Crawford, Collins, and maybe McClain.

Productive Passrushers are made; not born. Sure, some guy's have physical advantages, but like Dez's shirt said at the rookie mini-camp, hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

With that in mind, I say pass on the progress-stopper Freeney. The Cowboys have several names (outside those that have already been discussed) already to throw at the position, including Ryan Russell from the 5th round last year and a few undrafted free agent hopefuls. This defense will be better than many give it credit, provided the Cowboys can have some luck on the health front, particularly at the QB position.

I hope you're right. I want to be excited about these Cowboys, and I am with the Ezekiel pick. But I'm cautiously optimistic because the Cowboys have let me down so many times in the past years when I thought they were on the cusp of greatness.

Look, I know that both you and I have issues with the Cowboys FO and the coaches on this team. They have made a determination
that they are going to TC with what they have and I'm sure Marinelli will find the best 4 rotational DE's left on the team to serve
for the first 4 games. They are NOT going to bring in any veterans at this point to compete so we might as well quit harping
on it. They own and run the team and them's the facts.

Nobody's denying that so I'm not sure exactly why you insist on repeatedly mentioning it. If you're thinking that opinions you express here influence real life decisions, maybe this isn't the place for you? Nobody else believes that, but it doesn't stop us from expressing our opinions and what we feel the team should do.

You throw that line out there as if the Cowboys never make mistakes, something everybody in the world knows isn't true.

http://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/201...boys-pass-rush-will-they-consider-each-other/

"There are certain things an NFL franchise can never have too many of. Lombardi trophies, draft picks, home drug testing kits, platforms for go-go dancers at their stadiums. Also in this category; pass rushers.

With a defensive system such as the one the Cowboys use, where the goal is to send waves of pressure at opposing quarterbacks, multiple pass rushers is a mighty fine thing. With that in mind, Dallas might want to consider contacting the representatives for free agent Dwight Freeney, 36, and see if there might be some mutual interest.

Freeney is certainly ready to go." (cont'd)

I like a signing like Freeney. I generally like age with youth and adding youth where there is age as long as there is some reason to expect production. We could use his influence on the D line. Similarly Zeke is in a good spot with DMac and Morris. Gathers too. Prescott.

Feel a vet is needed at receiver where our group is a bit immature. Maybe a Boldin if he can still play. Jaylon a good fill too if health turns around. Not a cure all philosophy but I often view additions through that lens. Age can have a maturing impact and youth a competitive element but that's nothing earth-shattering I know.

I guess only reason I would like to get Freeney is because he is still showing an ability to get pressure on the QB and 2nd the young guys right now are showing they can't be trusted even to be eligible to play the games

Yeah if he could be that Haley-type vet... I'm in!

True, I can't say what he would and would not do but what I know if the 2 guys with the most upside in terms of bringing pressure will not be playing to start the season then we need help. I'm all for giving youth a chance to prove themselves and they will have the chance to do so in camp and pre season but once the games are for keeps Cowboys need to come out of the gates quickly and right now I don't see much without Gregory or Lawrence in terms of pass rushers. A vet like Freeney in my view is worth it

Progress stopper.........

What progress? Our two young starting DEs are on the bench for four games. I don't see Freeney as a progress stopper but instead, a stop gap. Besides, we may need him as the season wears on. Might not be a bad thing to have a Vet who has played in the NFL at a high level to come in and be around these young guys. JMO

I agree Dooms. Two of our first four games are divisional games and all four games to start the season are Conference games. Those games impact a teams ability to get into the playoffs, much more then do out of conference games.

I really feel like this is Romo's last chance.

Other teams and their defenses are so good that:

- it would be hard to get Romo through a full regular season.
- it would be hard to get Romo through tough defenses in a playoff run.

Fingers crossed, wishing and a hoping.

So, Stephen... you say there's a chance?

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...-jones-says-team-looking-younger-talent-first

"It's a little early for us. We kind of like our young guys right now," Jones said. "Obviously Dwight's had an amazing career, nothing to say but great things about Dwight with what he's accomplished in this league.

"But we all know this is a younger man's game. But I do think what he showed lastyear he was able to help a playoff team. So all those things we'll keep an eye on. But I don't think right now we're ready to make a move on any type of veteran that's available."
