Freeney could bolster Cowboys defense

I blame the coaches too. And I hope the Joneses honestly do as well. All of them should be on notice that if things don't markedly improve that top to bottom, changes will be made.

Garrett now has a 'steak on every plate'. A Pro Bowler or significant asset at every starting position on offense. If it's not among the Top 5 league-wide (barring significant injuries obviously), there's nobody to blame but Linehan and him. The Joneses have given him everything any coach could ask for to be successful there. If he's not, it's on him.

there will always be an excuse. Garrett will be here through his contract. :(

Pass! next pile of steaming garbage please?

Marinelli says let the young guns compete and all is well. Geez, it's not even TC yet and people are
jumping off the bridge.

No bridge jumping just immature players 2 of which will be sitting and if another failed test comes down your looking at longer time off. A guy like freeney has prove to be reliable and steady player. I don't know if Cowboys will move on him or not but right now we know we will be short handed for the first 4 games and this team is not that great where we can afford to blow off the 1st 4 games of a season

We have at least 4 other DL that can be plugged into DE for the 4 weeks our two bad boys are on vacation. Tyrone Crawford, David
Irving, Benson Mayowa and our new draftee Charles Tapper. Marinelli will find a rotation that works with these 4 or maybe one of the
remaining d-lineman. You may not like any of them but, Marinelli will field a team and they will function until he has reinforcements.

Sounds ignorant.

It's not about plugging in any name you find on the roster. It's about putting the most capable player in that role.

The fact that anyone is even talking about playing Tyrone Crawford at defensive end, a position where he's never had a sack at the NFL level, should be enough for people to realize the dire need at the position.

How people can blind themselves to that fact is beyond me, much less to stick their noses up at a far more accomplished pass rushing option.

I hope so based on what Stephen has said they will go through OTA and see what they have before making any roster moves.

Funny that this "accomplished pass rushing option" is sitting on the street begging for a job in a leauge where pass rushers are coveted. Should tell you something.

Yeah?

What should it "tell me"?

That he's got nothing left.

For a guy who has nothing left he managed to do more in 11 games limited snaps than any of our guys. Personally I don't care who is sacking the QB but we need someone to step up and do it. Old man Freeney was still making plays last year when Snap Kracken pop was wasting our time with his half ars play

I could probably make a sack playing in Arizona's front 7. He won't be able to replicate that here.

I guess he's worth a look, but I don't think he's a savoir.

You don't know that what we do know is no one currently has a clue as to how to sack a QB. I am all in favor of going young but damn our 2 guys we were counting on choose to get high instead of focusing on becoming professional football players. I have had it with these immature punks who take their career for granted. Dallas needed them and they have let this team down. Freeney at least is a professional not some spoiled kid

True.

I don't think our FO will do it, though. Not a least until after week 1. I don't think Freeny was signed last year until week 6.

Look, I know that both you and I have issues with the Cowboys FO and the coaches on this team. They have made a determination
that they are going to TC with what they have and I'm sure Marinelli will find the best 4 rotational DE's left on the team to serve
for the first 4 games. They are NOT going to bring in any veterans at this point to compete so we might as well quit harping
on it. They own and run the team and them's the facts.

Even if they determine they want to go after an established veteran, they will wait until after the 1st week of the season so that the
contract does not become guaranteed. Marinelli will make it work with what he has or suffer trying.

LOL at people actually arguing this would be a bad idea.

He'd be cheap, he could be cut in a heartbeat with no pain, and he offers up another body that might be able to at least help in what is arguably this team's biggest weakness ------- hitting opposing QBs.

There's no reason to not take a chance on him. Again if he's washed up, just cut him. I see no downside. Are people worrying that he might cost Russell a roster spot? Boo hoo. Russell is a JAG.

I think that is likely. I like Marinelli I think he is a very good DC but you got to have tools to work with. 2 high rd picks are going to be missing and I hope the Cowboys are able to bring in a vet to help this defense out.

It's not that he has nothing left. It has to do with the NFL being a young man's game. And teams would prefer training and investing in younger guys than older guys.

Furthermore, older guys command more money because of their experience.

The combination doesn't bode well for Sweeney. But with the Cowboys in desperate need of a pass rush, I'd take my chances on him, particularly when it seems a pass rush is the only thing standing in the way of this team getting to the NFC Championship much more the Super Bowl.

We have the offense (if it remains healthy). Now we need the pass rush on defense. It was the pass rush that kept us from advancing to the NFC Championship Game two years ago.

The more I have been thinking about it this morning, the more I am in favor of bringing him in. I'm not sure how much he can help with the pass rush without the supporting cast he had in AZ, but I think he may help tremendously in player development with our young guys, if he is the type of veteran that would lend his experience.

His pass rush will do little if we don't plug the middle. There were several occasions last year where we got decent push on the ends, but the quarterback would just step up in the pocket and either take off or buy extra time to find the open receiver.

Here's hoping Collins can provide that inside rush.
