That's the problem with these upstart internet news services like the Turd and Drudge Report. They don't do their homework like the major news organizations. Anything that is inflammatory is released ASAP instead of going through the proper channels to check it first. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy writing that website doesn't even know anyone from Cajun Country, much less have a source to check the word's meaning. It's nice that we live in a modern-day information highway, but there are drawbacks.

no, the problem is human nature.

look around here - how many people can say one thing and it's taken to mean whatever that would mean to the person reading it? that spawns either a good discussion to find the middle ground, or a stupid argument.

we do it all the time - base what we see and hear on our own experiences. takes some effort to put 'em down and learn more vs. run with what you know.

Umm Drudge is only a news link site. 98% of his site is links to other news-sites around the world reporting the story.

He does an article every now and again but I dont see him or his site as some mainstream NEWSFLASH site. The opposite actually.

Comparing the Turd which is more opinion and "sources" to Drudge really isn't fair.

No it's not unfair, since Drudge is a turd.

Drudge links to some obscure websites -- some just there for propaganda -- and cites them as news. Drudge also has headlines w/out links on the top of his home page. I've seen those headlines mysteriously disappear many times. I know he's been sued a few times too. So while I agree the Turd is more fiction than links like the Drudge Report, Drudge also has its share of quick inflammatory reporting that probably wouldn't pass the litmus test at a major news organization. I like reading the Drudge Report but I don't take it as serious as some of the other sources I go to.

You've obviously never made a trip to Morgantown, WV then.

WVU's fan behavior ranges from disrespectful at best to criminal.

You just don't like WVU because you are a Marshall fan and or alum. You have made that quite clear.

Also I was stationed in Louisiana and the term CoonArse is not a racial term like many have also said.

Now Coon is considered a racial term when calling a black person that.

But Coonarse in lousiana is like calling someone from WV or KY a Hillbilly...just not a racial term.

I just called them cajuns when i was stationed down there but many did use the term coonarse when describing themselves and laughing. Just like all of the crazy bedreaux and tibideaux (sp?) jokes about cajuns told by cajuns.

Well...I was just stationed in Lousiana...i was not a native nor a Cajun.

I live in West Virginia so the accepted term is Hillbilly or Mountaineer.

I prefer Mountain man...as it looks like I have a mountain in my belly.:laugh2:

I was gonna use coonarsecowboy for my name but figured it wouldn't fly.

Then I would have to sue myself for being insensitive to my lineage.

I would then have to pay millions of dollars to myself thereby effectivley throwing me into yet another higher tax bracket.

Us coonarse's are so conflicted.

And yes, I am a coonarse.

I have no problem with the term.

Nah...I think they just call you grumpy old fart down in those parts.

Or...maybe because you also spent time living in PA they call you the Cajun Amish. :D

I've lived all over the South and only heard the term used in Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and Lower Alabama. Where have you heard this term used in that way?

I'm not doubting what you are telling me; I'm just curious.

I heard it in California, I live in Fresno, my dad was called it several times while we were in bakersfield, ca;(home of the ku klux klan in cali)and he was pissed, my dad and his family are all from the south, Alabama to be specific, and I was always taught that that word was a racial slur towards black people. they also taught it in my Criminal Justice multicultural law enforcement class that it was a racial slur towards black people...NOW I see that the word used was coonarse and not just coon, they could mean two different things IDK, but this is what I was taught and I have heard where it was used as a racial slur, it might not be as bad as N***** but the word is still a slur...

I resent that. I'm not old!

Well...I am a little younger than you, not by too much, and I feel old.

Now we are not in CBZs age range...but it does not mean we are not old.

But I noticed you did not take exception with the Grumpy or Fart part of it.:laugh2:
