Fuzzy Thoughts After vs SF

Well, the one thing that we can all agree on is that SF wanted to run the ball in the second half... and they are really good at it. They are one of the most physical teams in the NFL, and the defense held up against the run WAY better than they ever did last year. McClain was hitting some people and the whole defense matched SF's physicality. The Dallas offense might have been more physical than the SF defense.

Those things alone are better than last year, IMO.

Yeah, that might be the biggest takeaway (pardon the pun) from the game.

Same thing for me.. I said we really couldn't tell, because Romo just played awful and out-of-rhythm with a new play-caller, and little practice. It's better to happen now, than later in the season.

Not only was Romo inaccurate but he was throwing into coverage and showed very poor pocket presence - terrible game for him and we never had a chance die to his performance.

Our CBs were terrible. Not only losing their guy in coverage but very poor tackling after the catch.

Tyron played poorly as well. Got beat a few times, penalties and overall a poor performance

Is it possible that sometimes offenses would prefer to operate a low risk scheme that takes time off the clock rather than go to their 'scoring' mode that may be higher risk? Think Dallas/Detroit 2013.

Of course. Though they'd still want to score. So I wouldn't say they're not in 'scoring mode'. But again, the defense can only defense the plays that are called, and they did a nice job in the second half in that regard. It's ok for us fans to acknowledge that. We don't need to throw out the tape just because the results weren't dismal.

The only reason we are consistently an 8-8 team is we have 2 or 3 games every year that we cannot explain. This game was one of them.

I am worried about Romo's back honestly. He was not on target AT ALL.

8-8?? Seriously? This is has 5-11 written all over it and that's being generous.

Romo looked like Aikman at end of his career. Rattled even without pressure (perceived pressured). Ball with no velocity. Poor reads. I like Romo....but this was awful. I was at the game and it look even worse live.

Good point on game day familiarity.

They went to 11 personnel and we countered with a whole lot of nickel. They spread it out and tried to run on us and couldn't.

The pass defense especially on third down was better. No more blown coverages from the Wilcox trio and they allowed SF into FG range but once. The pass rush was pretty good all game long. It continued in the second half and forced some bad throws and got some sacks when our coverage held up for a few seconds as opposed to what we saw in the first half.

Sorry Fuzzy, I was not impressed with the 3rd down pass defense. Everyone and their grandma knew Kaepernick was looking for Bolden on 3rd downs, and the Dallas D still couldn't stop it. Would of liked to see Dallas at least roll their coverage to Bolden, or try a double team on him.

I bet you wouldn't have thrown it out if they'd run the score up some more, though. That's a no-win for the defense.

They can only defend the plays the offense chose to run against them. Give credit where it's due. If they get run up in the second half next week, nobody will be giving them a mulligan, I can pretty much assure you.

I hope you "enjoyed" this game as much as you have "enjoyed" the last 3 years of mediocrity

I didn't, unfortunately. We were out of it before halftime yesterday. That makes the games less enjoyable for me. How'd you like it, though? Was it everything you've hoped for?

Sometimes a particular player is just a bad match for a team.

But bear in mind the SF was missing 2 of it's starting linemen. I plus with that much of a lead, I think SF was content to just run as much time off the clock as possible.

My expectations for the team I am a fan of have always been higher, so no

I hated it but I thought it might be right in your wheelhouse

Whose fault is it if romo and the team continue to okay undisciplined football ?

As usual, you're wrong on both counts. You really shouldn't let things get so personal between us, though, visionary. There's no reason for this sort of negativity and animosity between regular posters. How 'bout we stick to talking about the game?

clearly a cowboys football related question that you chose to ignore as usual because it does not suit your agenda

"Whose fault is it if romo and the team continue to okay undisciplined football ?" isn't actually even a sentence, much less a football question. But since I made the mistake of suggesting we talk football, instead of asking you to simply stop being petty, I'll answer this once.

Assuming I interpreted your question correctly: I don't think the team was particularly undisciplined relative to the rest of the league yesterday. I think Tony made critical mistakes on two reads that contributed to a 21 point swing in the score. I think Murray's fumble was a good play by the SF defense, and it also contributed to the early loss. Otherwise, I thought we played a pretty good game, got the benefit of some bad officiating, and lost a winnable home opener.

My biggest issue with Romo, and I say this as someone who has always been a big supporter of his, is his inability at times to give up on a play. If he could just be drilled into realizing that throwing the ball away is a good play I think his whole career and the way he is viewed by the majority of people would be completely different. He has an arrogance to his playing style however that just will not allow him do it voluntarily.

He's just a gambler, like Favre and Bradshaw were.

Those guys get praise for the plays they make at the last instant, and are skewered for the mistakes that they likewise generate.

Gotta take the good with the bad.
