I agree with most of this. This team needs innovators. Bringing in dinosaurs like Norv Turner, Kiffin and the like won't work in todays game. But that's what you get when you listen to other dinosaurs like Larry Lacewell. More dinosaurs.

The single worst news i have heard was that Lacewell was back amongst the trusted advisers to Jerry.

Lacewell is by all accounts a great guy but he is a terrible football guy and represents the very worst drafts we've ever conducted.

And he is definitely a part of that dinosaur generation that needs to go.

You look at Belicheck and his Coordinators have rotated frequently bringing new ideas and fresh faces. Some like Josh McDaniel very young.

IMHO it is in being forward-thinking not worrying about skins.

The problem with merely emulating what works is while you are installing what works other teams are preparing to beat it.

The skins help but that only buys them credibility. My point was that they lost that credibility when they were unable to raise the level of play of their respective units.

I agree that the entire coaching staff needs to step outside the box and come up with a plan that will maximize the use of the current talent as well as talent yet to be procured. They are coaching for their careers and this is no time to rely on what has worked in the past.

Only Norv Turner and Marinelli aren't dinosaurs. They are two of the more successful coordinators that have been in the league for quite some time.
I will say this: Marinelli had success in Chicago before he went to Dallas.

Norv Turner is still collecting paychecks riding the coattails of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Micheal Irvin.

I was at the Ranch once back in the early 2000s and Lacewell walked in front of my car in the parking lot. Oh, if only...

Josh McDaniel is an interesting case. I see many similarities between him and Garrett. They both did some very good work as coordinators but weren't ready to take on the HC position. The difference is that Denver saw this after a year and a half while Jerry is still holding onto Garrett. Now McDaniels is succeeding again under Belichek. I thought he called a brilliant game against the Colts, running the ball over 40 times and wearing out that defense.

Meanwhile, Garrett is still stuck in neutral at 8-8. I think it would do wonders if Garrett went back to OC, like McDaniels has.

Totally agree.

Can Dallas fire Callahan and hire McDaniels as the OC/Assistant HC?

They are undoubtedly dinosaurs.
As to their successful Coordinator nature that depends on how recent you mean.

Norv is 61 and spent the year as OC for the Browns who cleaned house after only 1 year.
The offense didn't have a ton of talent and wasn't very good.

The Chargers whom Norv left played yesterday.

Marinelli is 64. He is considered the best DL coach in the game.
He actually only has 3 years of DC experience as an NFL coach.

He has as much as HC where he manged to win at an absurdly bad %20 clip.

End of the day there's little evidence Marinelli ever wants to be a DC again.
He's held the position for very few of his long coaching years.

Norv's offense is rooted in very basic and successful norms.
But that makes him VERY predictable.

The difference in my mind is McDaniels created a new offensive scheme in NE and is an innovator.
Garrett is a process guy relying on whats worked before to work again.

This is true.

The offense worked when he had Corey Dillan, Troy Brown and little else.
The offense set records with Randy Moss and Wes Welker throwing the ball all over the place.
They were virtually unstoppable running 2 TE's with Gronkowski and Hernandez (with Welker).
Now they are a power running team with Blount, Ridley and Vereen with Amendola and Edelman running crossing routes getting first downs.

Amazing. I am truly envious.

Getting a little tired of the annual revelation that one of the coaches on the team doesn't mesh with Jason Garrett.

Ray Sherman? Nope.

Skip Peete? Nope.

Rob Ryan? Nope.

Now Bill Callahan?

Hey Jason, maybe it's not everyone else.....maybe it's you.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with the head coach or the offensive staff. Last year, I would have told you there was nothing wrong with the entire coaching staff but our current defensive coordinator needs to be put down humanely.

put down?

kind of cold but sadly accurate

You'd think the success of Rob Ryan this year would be a big bucket of ice water over everyone in the front offices heads. Nope. The Cowboys will continue with their Baghdad Bob routine.
