Your question is irrelevant. Running his mouth did not cure the ills of the passing offense. Players do not improve their performance on the field through glorified "news" interviews. Totally irrelevant. Let's see how "relevant" the question is on the other foot.

How did running his mouth off relevant to YOUR contention?

Oh, you mean TOs mouth had no relevance to the ills of the 'passing offense'? Thank you very much....

The ills were because of another reason...

He will not be cut, and anyone who speculates that he will be has faulty information.

It's an absurd suggestion, really. You'd have to be in lala land to think they'll cut a guy when it'll actually hurt their salary cap to do so...and this guy is one of the top players on the team. He's one of the reasons this team had such high expectations in the first place.

Think about it. If I'd told you last year that in week 1, Owens would go down for the season, would you be predicting "Super Bowl?" I think not. He was considered one of the team's most indispensable players. By everyone. We'd have been lucky to make the playoffs without him in most people's eyes.

I will say this, however: hypothetically speaking, if Owens were to be released, his career is over. Period. There is not another team in the NFL who would sign him with the reputation he'd have after Dallas gave up on him. Suggesting that we could "trade" him is unbelievably naive.

No, it's apparent that running his mouth served zero purpose, which he completely understood before accepting Deion Sanders invitation to do his interview.

I go back and forth as to whether he'll be cut EVERY DAY. If it weren't for the 9 mil we wouldn't even be having this discussion: I don't care, that's a lot of cash. He's a colossal awesome person, but he's still pretty good.........in the end you have to cut him IMO. Even Reeves said as much awhile back: but then, it isn't his 9 mil is it?

*T.O. is like the pscho hot chick most of us dated years ago. One incredible RIDE at first then.........reality hits and you just want out in any way, shape or form.......cost be damned. In the end if JJ is serious and backs up all his tough talk he'll eat the 9 mil and cut him. One thing I'm convince of: no one any time soon will get a big bonus like that. Look at our bonus babies of late: Romo, Flo,RoyWilliams11, T.O., TNew,Ratliff. Only JRat has fully earned that big bonus IMO.

So he's indispensable to us... But no one else in the league would want him if we didn't.

Good thinking, iJT.

It costs $680,000 more off the cap to cut him. Him being on the roster has no bearing on our ability to sign picks or Ware. Its just a matter if Jerry wants to swallow $9M for a guy who will be playing on another team.

Sigh.

It costs 600 grand IN ADDITION to his current contract of nearly 9 million dollars.

It is NOT like we can cut TO, and its only 600 grand against the cap. its his full salary plus the 600 grand. It would cost us almost 10 million to cut him.

The context of my statement was that both Jerry and Wade said the ball needs to go to TO. That is evidence that TO is a major part of the offense.

You didn't answer the question... How is keeping his mouth shut relevant to the contention?

First you would have to believe Jerry and Wade knew what they are talking about.

Your contradicting yourself. Either what he said effected the offense or it didn't...

Further, what he said was confirmed by the franchise QB, who I guess shouldn't have said anything, and now, the future WR Jerry drafted that everybody on this board said would replace TO...

So they shouldn't have said it and let the ills of the passing offense continue?

So would you have thought the Cowboys were Super Bowl bound last season if Owens had gone down for the season in week 1?

Did the offense get better after all that was said? Sure didn't look like it.

The Cowboys are the favored team in the NFC to go to the Super Bowl this year with TO...

Which actually cofirms the point, that what TO said had little influence on the overall game-planning of Garrett... Garrett continued to do what he did, even after his meeting with all three receivers, let alone after the Deion interview...

False, Romo started to force more balls to owens and we fared no better.
What it does "further confirm" is that neither know what they are talking about.:)

Um, nearly everyone.

Do you think the expectations would've been sky high had we entered the season with Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin as our starting wide receivers?

Get real.

The $9M is sunk, on our salary cap for '09, and unrecoverable. So, yes, it costs us $600K additional to cut him (according to the DMN). We're on the hook for the $9M either way. It doesn't cost $10M to cut him.

In terms of the cap for future years if there is one, we're saving the ~$6M he's due to be paid this year.

There are also a ton of people who say we will never win a thing with owens, so far they are right.
