FWST Blog: Secondary Re-Shuffling... Scandrick to safety?

He still going to play the slot, this would get him off the bench on 1st and 2nd down.

Ah so the only time we go to the nickel is 3rd down I see....

Well we certainly can't move Mike "Business Decision" Jenkins to safety... :)

Not a fan of this move, I think Scandrick is our top CB prospect and I hate to move him around in just his 2nd season. Just draft a safety already.

Really?

I don't see this at all. Scandrick is too valuable as a slot corner.

I think T-New is in on some pre-draft smokescreening. ;)
What he said.

What on earth is going on at Valley Ranch? This team is on crack.

That sounds okay... I guess I just don't quite get moving a guy with corner skills to FS.

But as I've said many times, I absolutely trust the moves Wade and the coaches make on D.

And one thing would make sense -- Scandrick is very smart and studies hard, so he could be that quarterback of the secondary when he's back in the single high safety. He was already helping guys line up last year as a rookie.

Are you really that stupid? Any time they go to nickel Scandrick would move to the slot. But by and large 1st and 2nd down the team is in base package so Scandrick would either be on the bench or playing FS. If the coaches think he can play FS then that looks like a pretty good idea. Beats the current alternatives.

I don't see this happening until I see what other FA moves we make and until after the draft.

Secondary Re-Shuffling

Just talked to Terence Newman to get his general reaction to the events of the last 24 hours or so and he said he was "shocked" to learn that both Terrell Owens and Roy Williams were cut.
He had a lot more to say, but one thing he did add was that he expects to see second-year cornerback Orlando Scandrick playing free safety and moving Ken Hamlin to strong safety which means Mike Jenkins will start at the other corner.
It's not set in stone, but it sounds like those wheels are in motion.
- Mac Engel

Hamlin SS?

Hamlin isn't big enough to be a SS - several people have mentioned this point already. plus, he is not aggressive or good enough tackler in the run game - see the Ravens game....

I think moving Scandrick from CB is a mistake - he could really be special there IMO and CB's are normally much harder to find.

This makes no sense to me...

I don't know that this is really all that strange. Scandrick can play CB or FS. In fact, when we drafted him, I thought he might end up at FS. Jenkins has more natural talent then Scandrick does so once his game meets his talent level, he's probably going to be the other starting CB anyway. Ball is probably ready to step up and take a more active role as well. We may draft another guy at CB or Safety or sign somebody. I wouldn't worry too much about any of it. I don't get the impression that Woody was saying this as if it was a done deal.

I really can't understand what you're saying however, I think I can get this much they aren't only in the nickle on 3rd downs meaning they can use the nickel on 1st and 2nd downs. Meaning there's still no FS and we really did nothing by making this move...

I like this idea. Thanks for talking me down.

i'd rather have scandrick playing corner and move jenkins to saftey.

The backup safeties come in on the nickel too you know.

All I know is that Scandrick is a baller!!! If he can be on the field all the time at FS then I'm all for it.

Yea but the nickel is supposed to stop the pass not put people who can't cover on the field. It's bad enough we have Hamlin and Davis right now.

Actually Scandrick is a good FS because He is a great zone corner. Loves to come up and hit people, and is a quick decision maker. If he can locate the ball in the air on deep bombs he will be a real good FS IMO.

Anyways Scandrick is a gamer if this puts him on the field all game then I'm all for it.
