Why would anyone pay him more than $3 million per year as a HC? You don't pay more than that unless the guy's won a Super Bowl with a former team and you're bringing him in to rebuild your team.

McDaniels got $2 million. Spags got just under $3 million. And they're the two hottest coordinators on the market.

Say hello to the Jerry Jones insurance policy for retaining Garrett the length of his contract. Pay him more than he could get hired elsewhere for. That way Garrett never leaves Dallas until Jerry says so.

Anyone who is buying this "he insisted on coming so we let him" spin coming from the Rams needs a reality check. If they had already decided on Spags, why would they let Garrett tour the facilities? That makes no damned sense.

Take it out of the football world. If you were hiring for a position, and had decided on a certian candidate, would you allow a candidate you weren't hiring to come back to the office with his family and sit at the desk. Heck no!

I called it in the other thread. JG wanted too much money. They liked JG over Spags, but Spags came cheaper... which means JG wasn't that big a favorite.

I'm not saying I disagree with the argument that elite money should be reserved for proven, big time winning coaches but the fact is owners are paying that or more for people who are not.

Wade got less than $3 million in his original deal. Andy Reid proved himself as a HC before he got that much. Same with Schott, but he wasn't paid much over $3 million per year.

Here is the prime example. Haven't had the message that you are a one trick pony?? Whose defense/Scheme was Stewart Running? Stewart never really ran the Defense, that was pretty evident. He might have called more plays on games days in 2007.

The part about the money isn't true. I was laughing at the idea that someone would turn down the job based on $400k difference over 3 years. That's just absurd. Truth is, Garrett never had a chance against Spagnuolo. Devaney on Spags:

no, they are just towing the company line that 99.9% of teams do after hiring a coach, drafting or signing a player

I dont know what happened with Garrett after he arrived Friday, maybe he will speak about it one day soon and we'll know...but I dont believe that the Rams said "well we really dont want the guy but we'll let him and his wife come back up here (on our dime) and stroll around the stadium and offices etc etc, meet with some other officials"

also if JG has $9MIL left guaranteed from Jerry (link please) you might as well lock up this thread. it's already a safe bet to ignore anything coming from St.L. Which is fine they got imho the guy who would be a better HC in 2009 & 2010 anyways.

losing garrett would lead to a falling domino effect (wade gone) which is more important.

It's spin, nothing more or less. It will all be forgotten by next year. JGs career will not be hurt by the Rams spin, only how our offense performs next year.

If all things are equal, they used tie breakers. Primary one being the price. If they indeed were firm about the money, then it is very conceiveable that Garrett balked at the paycut.

The rest of what you are reading is pure fluff. When they threw the wives line in there as a qualifier, I had to laugh.

Maybe people think throwing Garrett under the bus is just them pumping who they did pick, but I think it's pretty shotty to be throwing someone under the bus who was just neck and neck in your interview process.
