Garrett and Phillips

Then what is the measuring stick?
Compare some wins and losses?

Yes! the measuring stick is WINS !

Regular season wins, Division Title wins, playoffs wins, NFC Championship wins, .... Super Bowl wins !!

We are the Dallas Cowboys for crying out loud.

What has happened to this franchise?

Yes I know this, and this was the response I expected. And good responses.
Just thought I would throw that out there.
And I agree, Garrett should have done better. But I also take into account of the decimating injuries over the past 2 years. So won't do that comparison.
But stats and such can be used to justify ones opinion how ever they see fit. I am sure there are other comparisons similar that goes either way. Average for 3 or 4 years, then next thing you know, a SB win or at least an appearance.
Wade lost the team, for whatever reasons, but Garrett has not lost this team. This is the year we will see.

I agree about Wade. He had to go because he did lose the team. Garrett has not lost the team but I honestly wish he had so we could have got rid of him and started in a new direction.

Jason has lost the fan base though. Predictable results and zero personality on the mic has turned everyone off. You can't be a terrible coach and act like a robot in press conferences because it just makes everyone think you have no idea what you're doing.

I don't think people realize how steaming the pile of a roster before Parcells took over. He took a team with Quincy Carter QB and Hambrick RB to the play-offs. That feat alone deserves HOF induction

Guess he was winning with what Campo had built. And let's not forget. If Quincy had not decided to throw his career away with the drugs, Romo would have been cut that year. Chew on that for second.

So Harbaugh followed what Singletary built? So I guess he's just a lucky coach.
After 4 years at the helm Good HC's win, bad ones don't, plain and simple, and by no means am I saying Wade was good but he was better than Garrett that's for sure.

I guess I'm not sure of the connection between Dallas and SF, except both teams changed coaches. I mean teams changes coaches like they do underwear and the results with the new coach can be all over the board.

But let's bring thing back into focus as it applies to the Cowboys...

Wade benefitted from the teams strong drafting in 2003, 2004 & 2005. You look at the draft boards and it's apparent.

While at drafts from 2006 until 2009 have been correctly identified as being poor, if not horrendous.

Whoever was coaching this team from 2010 on what going to have to "pay" for those years of poor drafting, while whoever coached the team prior to 2010 was going to benefit.

too many things happened, and it snowballed.
Overpaid contracts and drafting for backups, and trading down to avoid paying 1st round contracts. That was the late 90's.
Thinking the core players [the triplets] could win with decent surrounding cast. So drafting for "depth" did not help.
This continued for a long time as we all know.
Everyone wants to blame Jerry, and rightfully so, since he says he has the final say.
But also I blame some on Parcells. I never liked the idea of going to the 3-4, then you bring in a slew of players. Many older vets he had a history with, or wanted. Because Jerry listened to him, there were overpaid players yet again, or still. Players that never really panned out. People seem to forget about those players and deals. However, Parcells also brought in some talent, through the draft, but if those older vets weren't brought in, what difference it could have been. Again, that's hard to say.

Enter Wade, because they wanted to stay with the 3-4, right choice, who can say. Hindsight says no. Looked like it was going good, then it tanked, big time. So Garrett needed to fix this

Garrett started weeding out those older overpaid players, and still is, while trying to build for a long term run [long term now days 2 to 4 year run].
I still believe he is heading in the right direction, but is time running out. As I said, this is the year to see if is working [providing decent health for once].
If it's the same results, then yes, we need an entire change. I won't be happy with just a playoff appearance and a loss. It needs to be win the division, and a playoff win, but if we lose the 2nd playoff game, it needs to be a good game. If healthy, and IF we have all this talent, then let's see it.

I rarely listen to the PC's anymore, as it seem like the same thing over and over.
I have too many broken records packed away. I would hook up my turntable and listen to those first. LOL

I find it funny how Wade - the glorified defensive coordinator - gets blame for the drafting while he was here, and yet Garrett - the offensive coordinator - gets a free pass. If either one of them had significant input on their side of the ball, then they both had input.

The team at that point was essentially divided into two halves.

But I'd rather not read attempts at revisionist history in an effort to absolve Garrett of any blame.

I love useless numbers like this because they provide no context whatsoever.

Pretty unclassy move, and my respect for Wade just went down a notch.

If you want to be real, how many times has Jason gone 1-7 to start a season? Wade took Bill's team and ran it into the ground.

This is silly, it's like saying Quincy Carter's winning percentage for his last 2 seasons was 56% and Romo's is 50% so that means QC is a better QB?

Ridicules.

Wait what?o_O

That's also true. It's just weird seeing the old positions switch to match a new argument.

why should that be a surprise if the problems continue to be the same despite a new HC?

lack of discipline
lack of accountability
poor roster
horrible coaching and in-game decisions
deer in the headlights decisions by the HC in-game
poor game planning

nothing has changed other than empty talk at press conferences and the verbage now includes meaningless cliches like, its a process, stacking good days, RKGs, etc that give mindless homers something to cling to, knowing full well, it is a lost cause

Weird that Garrett was HC in waiting under Wade and the OC but magically had nothing to do with those teams. Yet now he is having to rebuild a team that reached he playoffs right before he took over. Weird how that happens to fit a persons argument. Overall both should never be HC. The two are responsible for a lot...combined..in the last 7 years.

OK, .. so it's the off-season.

Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett are tied at 56 games as the Dallas Cowboys head coach ….

RECORD AS COWBOYS COACH:

Wade Phillips 34-22 Garret 29-27

We are in for a long, bad ride. As if it hasn’t been long enough and bad enough as it is.

Wade's first season he benefited from a ready made team disciplined and built by Parcells. so he went 13-3 and screwed up having home field advantage in the playoffs, losing to a team they had already beat twice. his record in the following three years was 9-7, 11-5 and 1-7 all the while the talent wasn't replenished and we lost our ways.

Everyone is missing the fact that Waddles was saddled with an intern as an offensive coordinator that was hired before he was. Ginger hasnt had to deal with near the handicap that Wade had.

Ratliff wouldn't have sniffed NT if it weren't for Wade. Ken Hamlin was brought in, because Parcells didn't give him a safety. Jacques Reeves and Anthony Henry were our CBs because of Parcells. We had Bradie James and Akin Ayodele as our MLBs to cover the pass, because of Parcells. TO was brought in by Jerry. The biggest piece of the winning puzzle, Tony Romo was Sean Peyton.

This idea that Wade simply won because of Parcell's team is BS. A lot of what Wade did also hid weaknesses that this team had.

yeah, 1-7 explains everything he did. thanks wade for covering the weaknesses

32-26 with 1 playoff appearence. Still better than jg. I'm sure there will be buts behind this too from the jg homers.

I guess barry switzer should be in the HOF.....one NFC championship appearance and a superbowl win. one of the greatest all time coaches.

JG can't touch Wade's jock as a coach and it's insulting to Wade to even compare the two. Wade's forgotten more football than JG has ever known. The problem with this team is that Romo has masked the incompetence of coaching on offense. If Romo wasn't here, Garrett's exposure would have happened a lot quicker and we could have been rid of him by now.

hmmm, wasn't room the QB when wade was here? just sayin
